Cool. Thanks for your interest.

Oh. I have a YouTube account, started back in April 2008. I just haven't uploaded videos regularly for a long time. It uses 1s in the name only because somebody else had already taken "QuickCurly", only to never use it for anything meaningful. Apparently, the channel doesn't even exist anymore, but it did back when I decided to finally make a channel.

My most recent upload was of my 1-world SMB3 hack, SMB3 QCZY, which is included in the Quick Bros. 2 Hack Pack.

It appears that this is your YouTube channel. I'll check it out when I have some more time.

I don't have a Dailymotion account, but I've watched videos on there before. It's certainly not as active as YouTube, though. That could be considered both good and bad for different reasons.

My name came about back in 2001 or 2002. As silly as it sounds, it was what I came up with for a wrestling name. Yeah...

You're very welcome.
I understand. That's what I figured. No worries.

Silly me. I was thinking that the wrong bytes were the possible horizontal positions. At least I was close. That's awesome that you figured it out and got everything to work as you hoped. Well done!

For finding those bytes to begin with, I looked at the PPU Viewer to determine the values for the head/skull/thing, and after seeing that they were 01, 02, 03, and 04, I scrolled down from all the data for the Game Over screen, looking for those numbers within a group of bytes lit up as data.
I was familiar with this process before from modifying the Super Mario Bros. 3 title screen, among other minor sprite displays.
So, from where the sprite was displayed on the screen, I was able to estimate the position values. The vertical position values were easily found, and I knew that the horizontal position values had to be the same for both options, since the sprite would only move along the same vertical axis, but I mistakenly thought that the two "69" bytes were the correct offsets. Turns out it was 60 instead. Sometimes it's hard to tell when possibilities are so close.
Perhaps if I had just looked within the $0200-$02FF region in RAM, since that's generally where games save sprite information for easy access, I would have found the 60 value instead to know that that's what we were looking for.
It was mainly just a trial and error kind of approach, with an idea of what to look for.

That's amazing progress already, including finding and changing in-game variables! Keep it up!

I was going to add that I noticed yesterday that you were receiving some replies with your Romhacking.net thread as well, but I saw that you've already noticed that, too!
Hopefully the members there will be able to help you out too, if you need assistance with anything else. Dr. Floppy is very familiar with Monster Party, as well as the NES in general. He and a group of other hackers made a big Monster Party hack, Donner Party, and even a utility for editing the game. I'm not sure if it would be compatible with the prototype ROM, though.

So, what's next, my friend?
Either way, I wish you the best of luck with your continuous progress, and I look forward to it! You can do it!

EDIT: With regards to if you would like this thread moved to ROM Hacking, you can maybe try sending a PM to one of the active staff members to request it. Both ninjablooper and ShaneM have been on recently, at the time of this post.

I checked out Golden Cave. It looked pretty cool. I'm not familiar with SMW hacking, and I've never bothered with it since so many countless people already hack the game. Any idea why the plants had fish graphics mixed in with them?

Glad to see you back!

Out of curiosity, what encouraged you to join Board 2?
What do you feel can be done to help you feel more welcome?

It might be nice to get an idea of how people perceive the board from the outside, and figure out why some people might register an account, but then not return.

There are a lot of enjoyable memories, and there's a lot of useful information, but the board definitely has even more to offer with newcomers and building new lasting experiences, too.

Oh. I should have figured something like that. Similar to other games when graphics don't mix outside of their own specific graphic banks.

Enjoyment from ROM hacking comes down to the specific games each individual grew up with too, in my personal opinion. I didn't grow up with SMW like the main SMW Central community, and instead played SMB3 all the time, which is why I'm more familiar with that game on a hacking level, and prefer to hack that one instead.

Pretty sweet! It's been a while since I've played this, but it's an amazing hack. I can't remember how far I got with it. You can definitely lose track of time while playing it though. It's a lot of fun!
Great work on the maps. I'm figuring that it must have taken a while to put everything together.

I think that Insectduel was mainly just saying that it's up to a person's own preference, and really an effective hex editor comes down to what a person intends to use it for.

There are built-in hex editors in special emulators like FCEUX/FCEUXD. Really, they're what I mainly use. You can make changes, and then see how those changes affect the game in the emulator window before you even save them permanently, to find out whether or not you really want to.

I mainly use WindHex32 for ROM expansion, as well as comparing files to see a list of all the ranges of offsets that are different between an original ROM and a modified ROM.

I've seen quite a few people recently say that HxD is their personal favourite hex editor. I personally use it mainly for generating checksums, but in my personal opinion, it has a friendlier user interface than WindHex32.

I never even heard of GoldFinger, but it looks neat through the screenshot.

Long story short, it really comes down to the specific features you're looking for. There might not be a "correct" answer. You can use multiple hex editors, each for different reasons.

Excellent reasoning. I agree with you on your points.

Whenever I've heard the question, I always believed each one could potentially lead into the other one.

Some people seem to only be well known because they're acknowledged for having a lot of money, yet they have no obvious talents for anything.

Plus, being famous one way or another helps with publicity, which can lead to sales for whatever they choose to try to stick on people, because when a name is better known, people will generally look them up on their own to see what is new with them, and if there's something new that they're selling, they might buy it, as opposed to having to spend money on advertising their new products.

If you had administrative power(s) on Board 2 for a day, what would you do?

Normally there are 20 replies per page, but when there are deleted spam posts, I believe that messes with the detected count or something. It would seem so, anyway.

That sounds like a great idea!

Oh. Wait. Whoops.

Oh, well. 1200 isn't that special of a number for a milestone anyway, is it?

Do you do anything special on Sundays?

Should I have kept each post to only one question instead of two or three?

True. Though some would just say the regular day isn't like this, and it's mainly just the two of us posting, which they won't count, either.

But, whatever works, right?

Well, we're on the next page, now.

Also, General Chat just passed 30000 posts. Now that's a milestone!

Oh yeah. In case anyone hasn't noticed, I found my Wheel of Fortune document from 2010. Ha ha.

For a little motherfucker like you, you seem to like this place too much.
Is name calling really necessary? To be fair, I've seen T do it too - quite a bit - and I don't like that, either.

Besides the SMW Central link, this topic isn't even about test levels or anything SMW related anymore.

From what I could see from my occasional browsing, T is already registered on SMW Central.

I really don't see why it was worth replying in this thread nearly a week later. Why are occurrences from outside the board being brought into the board?

I also don't get this whole bringing people to the board and driving them away point. We can tell other people about Board 2, but as long as people aren't being forced to join, what's the harm? It's ultimately up to a person whether or not they register, and whether or not they stay if they do. Either way about it, isn't the board being active better?

Like before, I'm not taking sides, either. I still just wish that everyone could get along. T hasn't done anything significantly bad on Board 2, and they're just posting where they can. What harm is bringing some activity back to the board doing?

I'm also not trying to backseat moderate either, though I might possibly be accused of doing so. I'm just expressing my own feelings and perspective concerning a situation that has risen, just like both of you are, and as respectable members, we all have a right to not have to be insulted, or have to see the back and forth insulting going on. Quite frankly, I'm tired of seeing this frequent arguing, and I have a right to express that, just as much as anyone else.
I/we can either ask staff like ninjablooper for them to make a judgement on this whole situation, or we can all agree right now to completely drop these harsh feelings, and if you can't get along, then please just let each other be and leave one another alone, so that the whole board doesn't have to suffer as well.
In my personal opinion, at the very least, this can probably be taken to PMs so that threads aren't thrown off-topic.

I wish that I had a Super Mario World level screenshot to post so that this could maybe somehow get back on track, but I don't hack the game.

All I can suggest is that a lot of trial and error will allow one to figure out a program and its capabilities. Start small and simple, and work your way up. People who have been using SMW tools and hacking the game for years are obviously going to have more experience and be able to pull off more technically impressive hacks. Don't worry too much about what other people can do or the directions that they choose to go. Focus on growing your own abilities, and you'll improve over time. We all start out with no knowledge, so we can only learn from the time that we begin and onwards.

To that note, I've noticed a few more bots appearing again. Search engines must be picking up on increasing activity, too.

I recall that I found Board 2 from just searching SMB3 hacking stuff back when I was starting to ROM hack, and I think that I waited a little while before I actually created an account. So, the subject matter that can come up as search results can potentially lead people here. Though, the reason I wonder is because there are the people who will register, post an introduction, and then seemingly disappear, so there's a chance that they didn't necessarily register to post about something related to ROM hacking.

I suppose it's possible that people look for information, find Board 2, and register an account, but once they read the information they were looking for, they might conclude that they don't have any reason to post, and then they just don't return, at least immediately.
With this in consideration, we might actually have more people register accounts on a regular basis just to read what we have here if the topics weren't viewable for guests. However, then it might be more difficult for search results to connect with Board 2.

Indeed it is. Over 160,000 posts throughout the board overall. Lots of valuable information that people still make use of. Also lots of history that brings back a lot of memories reading through it.
