Posted by zbyteWell I'd say that if he keeps track of everything, it really shouldn't be a problem. If someone clears all the original level data out, they shouldn't be pointing to the offsets of the original levels anywhere anyway. Plus I'm pretty sure I already covered the basic key points to consider in the SMB3 thread. As always, if someone has questions, they should post and then we can all try to figure things out together. Posted by zbyteAs you've even mentioned previously, I don't feel that's a real good reference since I didn't include the total number of object bytes which would have been more helpful than the 3-byte and 4-byte object totals alone. If anything, the concept of "custom offsets" is probably a more effective way to go because it eliminates the original levels even better than restricting yourself to the original level sizes, which also effectively minimizes the chance of ripping off the original levels as well because you don't have them to work off of. Posted by zbyteThis. As you become more familiar with the process of level editing, you can experiment. I build complete levels visually in my head and then "transfer" them over to SMB3 Workshop. Posted by sspp03Starting fresh is always a good thing because then you're redoing everything from scratch so it's easier to avoid doing anything you did wrong previously again. However, I don't see the advantage of making two versions of the same hack, especially if your level designs will be similar, and if they're not, why wouldn't you just do two separate hacks in that case? (Don't misunderstand me when I type that; I still say it's best for you to do only one hack at this time.) As for needing an IPS patch for that, once again, I will direct you to this post. If you can't manage to clear the original object and enemy data yourself, then you probably wouldn't be able to manage using custom offsets anyway, since you'd have to be comfortable with using a hex editor and be capable of keeping a record of the offsets that you end up using for your levels. If you need clarification on something, again, ask. However, I will not do any of the actual physical work for you. |

That's awesome. I would always draw on my assignments and notes, usually as soon as the teacher would hand them out. |

Hello Roboh_25! I found this hack as soon as I saw your post on Romhacking.net and I jumped right into it! I really enjoy having a new SMB3 hack to play, and I'm one person who enjoys the more difficult SMB3 hacks! I've stopped at World 8 for the time being and I'll hopefully finish it soon enough.
Were you interested in receiving feedback for the hack? I must say, I really liked how the different map music for each World gave a unique feeling to them. One frequent issue was the enemy graphical glitches, so I'd prevent that recurrence if you create more hacks in the future. Once I've finished playing through the rest of the hack, I could review the hack in a lot more detail, but only if you believe that it would be helpful because it would evidently take a while. Keep it up! P.S. sspp03, please just don't post things like that in the first place. This wasn't the first time, and it's upsetting to see people who haven't even done anything getting attacked. |

I caught the episodes "The Impossible Astronaut" and "Day of the Moon" on Space a few Sundays ago, as they aired back-to-back, and it was the first time I watched the show as well. I only really watched those episodes because they surprisingly had Mark Sheppard in them (he also plays Crowley on Supernatural) and I was a little interested in what would result from the "Silence", but I was ultimately disappointed with the ending. |

I like to give any kind of music a chance, except rap. I definitely prefer the heavier stuff though. I've also been playing NES games like crazy for the last few months, and the music in those video games still plays in my head long after I've already closed down the emulator. |

It really depends on which day of the week it is because there are different shows that are on each day that I tend to watch. On Saturdays, I literally don't watch any television since it's more of a computer day. Still, I voted 2 to 3 hours per day since I feel that's approximately how it all averages out when considering a week overall. |

Thanks for posting about this KP. I always enjoy playing NES homebrew games, and I had a lot of fun with this one. I hope that the author continues to succeed in developing the game as they desire.
It's currently listed in the submissions for the 2011 Nesdev Coding Competition along with a bunch of other NES homebrew games that I've recently played and enjoyed. I see that there are a couple new additions to the collection since I last checked, so my guess is that there will be updates as both time and the participating game designers progress! Also, H4ck3r, you are entitled to your opinion, but personally I find it to be a very unique and interesting game title. |

No surprise to anyone - Super Mario Bros. 3. Since all I really play is the NES, I'll basically play any NES game that there is, so to prevent doubling the length of the thread through my post by listing the majority of NES games that everyone already knows, I'll keep it short and to the point. |

Hopefully you're able to have some fun during the summer. Provided that you do have more free time, is there anything that you're looking forward to being able to do? |

Have you ever played or tried to play Cuberootinbinary's SMB3 hacks?
I've been planning to create an SMB3 hack similar to the series and force him to play it so that he knows what it's like for everyone else to play his (provided that I was actually motivated to work on it more than once a month). Thoughts? |

Is there a specific question that you're hoping to be asked?
Is time going by too quickly or too slowly for you? Where do you see yourself/what do you predict will become of you in five years? |

Just to confirm, I helped him out through Skype recently by setting things up in a revised ROM with all of the original levels cleared out, since that's what he wanted, so he won't have to worry about exceeding any original level size limits anymore. I've guided him through different general hacking basics too.
It's still a good thing that you posted that though because everyone seems to choose to only edit the original levels but not realize that it means that they're restricting themselves to the original size limits, and that the 1-4 and 1-6 situation always causes issues as well despite how often it is covered as time goes on. |

Either way, there's nothing wrong or any reason to feel bad about willingly avoiding caves whether it relates to fear or not.
I've never been in a cave. I don't know if there are even any caves around where I live, so it's not like I really have the option to consider whether or not I'd be afraid of entering one. There is always the possibility that something can go wrong and that you will be taking a risk, and I suppose that's the only real thought that I'm able to consider; so if there ever was an opportunity for me to go, I most likely wouldn't due to a combination of me not willing to take any risks by doing so, and a sincere lack of interest in the activity of cave exploration. |
