Hi dastari! Welcome to Board 2! Always great to meet NES gamers. I saw your posted art the other day too and I liked it.

Any ideas of which NES game you would like to hack? You mention Mario and it sounds to me like you might be leaning more towards SMB1, but I'm just curious and interested if there might be another [Mario] game that you've had thoughts about maybe trying to hack.

ultimatepower22 - You have 500 to 600 NES games? I thought dastari was only referring specifically to NES games, so if that's the case those two totals cannot be compared side by side unless you're only accounting for NES games...

Yeah, I too say that you should go for it Googie. I saw your Pandamar video and thought it was cute.

Motivational purposes, eh? I could use some motivation myself. I'm halfway through editing World 5 of Luigi's Chronicles 2 - and yes, World 3 has been edited - but lately I just haven't had the will to continue with it. I even tried to take a look at Quick Bros. 2 to see if I could maybe get something else with that done and build up some motivation that way, but after about only a minute I said: "No way". Maybe it's because I'm a year older - and that has made me depressed as of late.

Anyway, I only mentioned that just to let you know that I have been working on Luigi's Chronicles 2 when I've been motivated to. Your "Pandamar Remix!" inspires me though. Hope to see some more of it soon.

Cool. Maybe you should post a list of all your games in the Games You Own topic sometime to show off that big collection.

It's still totally garbage to just add/drop an S, guys. Be more creative than that.
I've always agreed with you on that. I believe it's an easy way out too. I haven't been the one adding and/or dropping an S.

I guess I should switch to cases then; I don't think those CAGES will be very effective.

Looks pretty cool, Z.

For the World 1 Map though, notice how the water and land at the bottom meet funny? You should probably use the top land tiles like you have done at the bottom of the World 2 Map so it looks right.

Ah. Cool.

I just noticed something else with the World 1 Map though. There's no locked door, which makes the Fortress optional. Were you going to insert a locked door or make it so that the bridge doesn't appear until the Fortress is cleared?

As I've said for the last few months, I've already finished the Realms and Zones for Quick Bros. 2; it's some of the graphics and music that still need to be changed. I've been more focused on Luigi's Chronicles 2 for the longest time though. Most of the time I don't feel like messing around with Quick Bros. 2.

Another thing that's strange though is that this week was for the most part okay. However, today was nothing but one bad event after another. However, whenever I had a good day, I was never motivated to make any new levels for Luigi's Chronicles 2; yet today I actually completed a new level in World 5. Then again, I never could solve the complex puzzle that is myself.

I think there is a new E-Mail.
I'll check it out right now Z. It was late last night, so I didn't get to then.

Lately I've been thinking about getting back to Dark Mario, but then again I haven't had much time to do any hacking, including my MM3 hack.
That would be awesome. I remember seeing your preview of Dark Mario and I immediately started looking forward to it. Take your time though. We all seem to have other priorities and/or just not feel motivated to continue with our projects sooner or later. From what you've shown us of Dark Mario before, I say it's worth waiting for.

Got another idea I thought I would Share.

Itembox System V2.0 - Yes while DD has done The item box I thought of a way to use the pause action to good use.
by pressing the select button you can flip open your invintory and choose a power-up once you do It will be put In your Item box.
unpause the game and you can use said power-up by pressing select.
there will be a variable from 0-5 and every time you beat a level It goes up by one (untill it reaches 5.) If you Die In a level it goes down by 1. If you add an item from your Invintory it again goes down by 1. as long as this variable Is 0 you won't be able to add the Item to the item box.
the variable starts at 0.
Interesting idea. It reminds me of an idea that CKY-9K thought of 2 years ago, although your idea of having a variable control whether or not you can actually add an item to the item box is a different twist.

Please excuse the double post/minor bump from the bottom of the page. Since you asked for additional help, I took some time to throw together a visual tutorial to go along with beneficii's explanation. Hopefully it helps.

In this tutorial, we've decided that we'll be using a set of pipes on our World 1 Map. To do this, we'll use one of the World 8 pipe sets since we figure that we won't actually use all six of them when we get to the World 8 Map.

First, switch to the Pipes mode.

Use the Page Up/Page Down keys to go through the different pipe sets.

Use the left/right arrow keys to move along the map if it is longer than one screen. As seen in the following image, we've moved on the map to find the left entrance of Pipe Set #e. If you continue moving to the right, you'll find the right entrance as well.

What you want to do is move the entrances all the way to the left part of the screen so that when you're editing the World 1 Map, you'll be able to access them. To do this, left-click the left entrance if it is not already selected, use the left arrow key to move all the way to the left, and then right-click somewhere on the screen to move the left entrance to that new spot. Use the right arrow key to move towards the right to where the right entrance is, left-click it, and then use the left arrow key to go back to the left part of the screen again. Right-click to place the right entrance in a new spot as well.

Be sure to click the "Implement Changes" tab and/or select Save from the File menu. You must always save your changes before you change modes, or any unsaved changes will be lost. Next, if you don't know the actual level for the pipe set you're using, switch to the Pointers mode and hover over one of the pipes that originally used the pipe set you moved. In this example, we're using the "World 8 - Pipe 6" areas.

With the pipe set moved, you're free to go back to the World 1 Map to actually move the left and right entrances to the actual spots that you want to place and use them in. In case anyone's wondering, I just changed the World 1 Map palette using FCEUXD just for the fun of it (anything I can do to hopefully help motivate me to get back to ROM hacking ). Click the "Implement Changes" tab and/or select Save from the File menu again to save your changes.

Next, switch to the Pointers mode.

Left-click the pointer on one of the pipes (if your pipes don't have pointers, move them accordingly so that they do) and press the Enter key. The "Select Stage" window will appear. We want to select "World 8-Pipe 6 End 1" for the left entrance and "World 8-Pipe 6 End 2" for the right entrance. Save again.

Now you should have pipes for your World 1 Map! Tested and approved! Hopefully that helps you out.
