Barq's Root Beer all the way
Agreed.
Also, Coke, Mt. Dew CR, Dr. Pepper, uh... that's all I can think of atm.

Root Beer is pretty much the only pop I drink, and I try not to drink too much pop anyway.

I'm scared to think what's underneath my laptop keyboard. I've had this thing for 3 years, and it's been in near constant use since I bought it. Maybe an elephant...

Now that you mention that, I don't think I'd want to look under our keyboard either. :o

It might be true that most people prefer an easy game to a difficult one, but then you have to ask yourself - what is the fun in that? Myself, I prefer a challenge.

If anything, you should have a fair balance of difficulty (as the topic title is rightfully named). Perhaps make it easy to begin with and then increase the difficulty as the game progresses. In contrast to ybriK-neerG not playing it if it's not easier than the original Zelda 2, I find that if a hack doesn't pose some form of new challenge aspect to it, I would still likely play it but I am not sure how far I would go with it.

Either way, it is just my view on the difficulty of video games and their respective hacks. Others will probably have different views on the matter, and that's cool.

All in all, best of luck with your hack.

I am definitely looking forward to this utility. I apologize for not getting around to commenting on it until now, but I want to wish DahrkDaiz the best of luck in finishing it off! I know there are a lot of other people who are looking forward to the Ultimate SMB3 Editor. I also think it's great because of its innovative features. It seems as though even a beginner will be able to jump right into the process of creating an excellent SMB3 hack. Again, best of luck!

After nearly 7 long years since its initial introduction of intended existence, the SMB3 hack known as Quick Bros. 2 has finally been completed and released!

However, since the last news update concerning the status of the project as a whole, there have been some major changes to the Quick Bros. 2 hack, as well as the release overall, as this release is now a collection of multiple, individual hacks: the Quick Bros. 2 Hack Pack!

The hacks included in this collective release are as follows:

1. Quick Bros. 2 (2008)
The first of the two main feature hacks. This is the introductory adventure which actually leads into the 2015 edition of Quick Bros. 2.
More information concerning the history of the hack's development can be found in the included readme/text file.
Long story short, I started Quick Bros. 2 from scratch multiple times over the years after working on it on and off, which produced two collections of edited levels, which I connected together through a little story which is revealed from playing the 2008 version, followed by the 2015 version.
In a way, you can piece together what you think every little thing means, and why Mario and Luigi do what they do.

2a. Quick Bros. 2 (2015) Easy Version
2b. Quick Bros. 2 (2015) Normal Version
2c. Quick Bros. 2 (2015) Hard Version
The second of the two main feature hacks. You can choose which patch to play. The levels are exactly the same in all three versions. The difference between them is the map designs, which are set up to allow you to select which level(s) you play, depending on the version you choose. More information can be found in the included readme/text file.

3. SMB3 QCZY
A short, "bonus" 1-world hack that I made with the intention of trying to be a little easier when it comes to my usual level designs.

4. Chelsea's SMB3 Hack
A hack that was made by YouTube user chelsbaby96 in July 2010 that was never publicly released that I helped out with.
It's a 3-level demo.

5. SMB3 Krunk Edition
A hack started by previous YouTube user dbzisdakrunk, originally released on Board 2 in January 2011 as a 1-world demo.

6. Static's Sky Challenge Level
One of two levels created by my brother, Static, that aims to be a tricky challenge level like the Root series for SMB3.

7. Static's Ice Challenge Level
The second tricky challenge level by my brother, Static.

You can download all of the IPS patches and readme file in this hack pack from Romhacking.net!
Link: http://www.romhacking.net/hacks/2448/

As the levels in the main feature hacks can be extremely tricky and difficult (they require dedication and memory, similar to any unfamiliar games when people are playing them for the first time), by all means, feel free to ask about puzzling levels, and I'll try to see if I can come up with a helpful hint without just giving away the solution.
If nothing else, similar to how there have been YouTube play-through series of Luigi's Chronicles 2, it's possible that there might be play-through series of these hacks that can be referred to as well.
There’s something for everybody in this collective release; for general, expert, and masochistic players alike!

Original post - Posted on 09-23-08 06:35 PM:

As some of you have probably heard (I couldn't keep this a secret for very long) I am working on a second SMB3 hack. The difference this time around is that I actually know what I'm doing! The problem though is a lack of time - expect changes with what you see right now.

Also - do you notice anything weird that I implemented?

Comments and food will be very much appreciated. Thanks for watching!

Thanks a lot for the great compliments, Googie and Insectduel!

As I always say, your encouragement always helps to keep me going, Googie. Thank you very much.

I also really appreciate your support too, Insectduel. Thank you very much.

Hacking the SMAS version of SMB3 is an idea for the future, but for right now I'm still in NES hacking mode. I predict that hacking that version will be more difficult, so for right now I am cool with the NES SMB3. It is the one I played all weekend, every weekend growing up, after all.

I'm really happy and excited to hear that you guys are interested in playing it! Unfortunately, similar to some other things in development that we are looking forward to, I am unsure when I will have Quick Bros. 2 completed. If I was still on vacation, finishing it off would be a lot easier. School has been taking up all of my time. So I apologize for not having a planned release date. At this point in time, I have about 1.5 Realms worth of Zones completed. I'm not saying I have any specific Realms completed because this time around, I'm actually editing the Zones out of order. I'm crazy, I know.

Unlike with the original Quick Bros. though, I plan to not rush through editing this hack too quickly so I am able to change all of the Realms and most to all of their Zones. Or another idea I had was, since Quick Bros. was basically four-and-a-half Realms, that I could make Quick Bros. 2 four Realms as well. However, with the way my Zones are turning out, each Zone actually uses more than one area, so it may work out that I edit all the areas and they can all fit into four Realms. So it would sort of be like the conclusion to Quick Bros. since I was too impatient to complete it correctly. What do the rest of you think I should do about that?

It's easier for me to manage editing the Zones this time around as I mentioned, and it actually has to do with the SMB3 document that I made. Ironic?

Thanks for the comment! That's cool. It helps if the rest of you provide your input and ideas. I will be able to incorporate them and I theorize that I will actually complete Quick Bros. 2 sooner that way.

But whoops - I forgot to mention this in my last chapter of a post. The order that you see the Zones in the video is NOT the planned order. As I mentioned, I'm jumping between random Zones in the editing process. I only played through the Zones in that order for the preview.

In fact, the Zone that WILL be the first Zone was not even in that preview.

Thanks for the comment, Bregalad! I'm glad you like it.

While that is sort of a "weird" thing (since the enemy object used to clear the stage automatically is represented by that "weird" blue question mark), that actually isn't what I meant. Though it was a great guess.

I was actually referring to 0:24 and 0:35. The same door sends Mario to one of two different locations each time Mario enters it.

Thanks for the comment, Onyxyte!

A second preview video is ready!

It just shows one of the planned Zones. Note that it goes through more than a couple areas for that awesomeness factor I like.

As for other minor changes (i.e. graphics, palettes, music, etc.) I plan on doing those changes after I finish editing all of the Realms and Zones. The minor changes I did for this video were just to show you that I definitely plan on changing them once that stage is reached.

I hope I don't lose motivation to finish this hack before then.

At this point in time, I have three Realms worth of Zones completed. Of course, since this SMB3 hack is as it has been described by others - "pointer heavy" - the quantity of Zones might fill up only one Realm Map.

Thank you for watching! If you have any questions and/or suggestions, I'm interested in hearing them! Take care and Happy Halloween!

Perhaps everyone has already heard about that new worm that's been going around. Here's a link for more information about it.

http://www.itbusiness.ca/it/client/en/Home/News.asp?id=51710&cid=7

Generally, if you watch what you click on and ensure that you have all your updates, you should be okay.

Sorry if this sort of pulls away from the original virus problem that this topic was about. I just thought it would be a helpful note to anyone who may need it or did not already know about it.

Right now I don't have any motivation to hack. I haven't done any serious hacking in weeks. Don't you hate when that happens to you? And I've been playing videogames to see if I can get some inspiration and ideas so I can hack, but nothing has worked.

Just goes to show that you can have the skills, but not the will.

I've felt the same way pretty much since the New Year began. I always have other things that I have to take care of first (ex. school, etc.) and I feel that the little time I do have isn't enough for me to sit down and focus on what I'm doing, so I haven't really tried to do serious hacking for about a month now. I can still manage a little level editing every now and then, but it isn't too long before I lose any motivation to continue. I hate when it happens as well, but it's sort of becoming a regular thing now. I figure once the school year is done, I'll be motivated to jump back into serious ROM hacking again. Until then, I've just been playing video games and other ROM hacks during the little free time I've had, maybe in hopes that I get a little motivation back. All in all, I hope that you can find that inspiration that will allow you to continue with your awesome ROM hacks.

Well from the poll, I would have to say Rock/Metal, although I really like video game music too. When I was younger, I was really into Country as well and I sort of listen to Country stuff every now and then nowadays.
