Has anyone figured out tinymm yet? The commands in the prompt are all Japanese, so I have no idea what to do to make the conversion

Ah, now I see what you did. I have never used the cmd prompt that way before, heh. It came out to a 57 KB file though, so methinks my MIDI may be too big.

Thanks.

I assume you need to add the loops and stuff yourself? Recreating the .txt file from the .mml produces a semi-exact copy of the original, but a lot of the instruments and sounds are off. I guess you need to correct them by hand, eh?

Ice Man: Do you have the original .mid files you used to create those songs by chance? I would be interested in seeing how you went about fixing them up.

I finally understand the format, but that converter HAS to leave out the tough stuff

About 90 minutes of converting and ear-bleeding-note-killing led to this. All that's left is octave and rest fixing. The end is borked a bit, but the rest is kinda sorta in tune. For a first attempt, I think it's pretty good.

Link

I'm sure you all know the song.

(note: I want to do Booster's Tower next, but it's huge)

Doesn't sound much like the original, and has some occasional pops and squeals, but I recognize it. I don't know if it has a name, but it's used (among other places) when the Shysters take over.

I always wanted SMRPG music in an SMW hack, but I'd want it to sound identical. Even if that means copying the entire engine and using SMRPG's sound effects and hacking all the music code. It's worth it.

*nod* The pops and squeals are due to the instruments and volume, which I haven't really tried or cared about yet. You'll notice theres an occasional note missing too that, once added, will sound better.

I'm going to try a simpler song .. maybe the SMRPG overworld and see what I can do

(also, the name of the song is "Trouble Ahead")

Pretty good Ice Man. However, like in the theme I made, there are a few notes where the octaves are messed up, and one lower then they should be.

Other then those notes those, it sounds great.

Name the song and win $

Link

Aside from one strange note and the awkward loop, that sounds a lot like the original. It could be used as the new Star Road or Special World theme

Happy 2nd Acmlmiversary to me. I almost forgot. Don't come running in to give me cake all at once now, autographs at the door, etc etc.

I've now lived through three incarnations of this board, I wonder how many more I can deal with

Heh, Star Hill

SMRPG seems like a good game to start on, seeing how the songs in it aren't too complicated (I mean, except Culex, but meh)

Just tried working with a YI one, but then I realized those aren't too exciting.

Ah. "Let's Play Geno" is just the "Here we go!" theme in SMW. Nifty.

Also, for true SMRPG fans:

Rose Way

This sounds like the original. In my opinion, it's my best one yet

Eh, kinda sounds NESish. :-/ Also a much more tropical feel to it than the original.

Can the instrument samples not be ported?

There is actually a command in the .txt file to change instruments, but involves changing timbre or bass to get the right combo, which I kind of slacked on.

(also, I find it stupid how NES songs are more complicated to work into a .txt file then SNES songs *sigh*)

Congrats on solving one of the most annoying tilesets in EggVine. See if you can figure out how the waterways and spouts work too, heh Looking good, I never thought of using Baby Mario in a sewer so it should be interesting.

What do you mean? Tutorial for inserting the music, or tutorial for converting midis to mml?

I can help you with either of them, but you need to clarify which you need help with.

Ok, echoes .. or vibrato .. is simply a p(#),(#) after the y position of the speaker in each channel. The first number determines how long the echo lasts, and the second determines the strength of the echo. This will make every note in that channel echo, so use it with caution.

For loops .. there are two kinds:

1. Note loop.

If you want a set of notes to loop, such as c2e2f2g2c2e2f2g2c2e2f2g2f .. you can type [c2e2f2g2] #, where # is the number of times you want it to loop. You can do more then one loop too, by doing [c2e2c2e2] 3 [d2f2d2f2] 3 for example.

2. Song loop.

There isn't actually a command for this .. but I noticed that all of the channels need to be the same length. If one ends early, it loops the entire song. (IE. channel 1 looks like c2c2c2c2, channel 2 is c16) You need to make channel 2 match with channel 1, or else it will loop.

As far as I know, that is the info you need.

Ah, you're right. I tried that before and I could never get it to work. I assumed he meant vibratos
