That is great darklink. I love how you are using the RPG overworld - for a hack like that, it adds a really good touch. I'd be interested in seeing certain levels open up paths to other areas and such. - heck, you could hide some hidden levels in corner of the map and stuff.

I'm liking where this is going, keep it up.

Looks good. The graphics styles match, which is great. My favorite graphics are the ones in the second screenshot with the space theme - nicely done.

However, I'm not the biggest fan of your second overworld (the one with Sapphire Temple) Sure, it looks good, but you'll notice in a lot of places (mainly edges facing upward) that there is a bit of yellow cutting off into the brown. Look at the inside of the ? for example .. see how the yellow kind of stick out at the top of tiles? I'd recommend fixing that and then it will look nearly stellar.

Good work.

This is beautiful - absolutely beautiful. It's time to have some fun.

Also, for those who haven't seen yet, I made a patch with 7 ported songs in it for the OW .. Linky

I like that beta title screen. Looks pretty nice

Ok, I have three screenshots of YIKR to show of the Extra levels. These are the last levels that need to be completed before I can release this, and so far it is going well. Make sure to check the ROM Hacking Releases forum within the next 2-3 weeks for the final version of it.

1-Extra. You use a star for the whole level.

2-Extra. It involves a submerged cave part with the famous Lunge Fish.

3-Extra, the one I am currently working on. It involves a snowy cave filled with stalactites. I figured the BG color added a nice touch

Comments and feedback are welcome.

This one should be easy to recognize. It's a SMB1 style Blooper. Nothing fun or exciting.

Yeah, you're right. So unexciting. I mean, seriously, who can't code a SMB1 Blooper these days?

Sarcasm aside, nice job. That frozen coin idea looks very useful and interesting, and could provide a wide variety of puzzles if you have a P-Switch at your disposal

Well, I finally got around to making a demo of it. To think, it started off as a bit of me goofing around, and it turned into this. I'm proud of it so far.

New features include:

-Custom Music, ported by me except for the title screen
-A block or two
-Coins! Get 100 and get a 1-UP. Isn't that incredible.
-Stuff you probably wouldn't even care about

Wasn't that an amazing list?

LINK TO THE PATCH

And two screenshots. Ignore the line at the top.

Feel free to post feedback

Thanks for the feedback all. Much appreciated. I said numerous times on SMW Central that I made the first world short as an intro, but I already have plans to make the second world longer and more epic

As for the solid/non-solid pillar stuff .. I'll fix that, no big deal. It's straight out of YI, and that's how they did it though .. but I'll see what I can do.

Rich: You are talking about the shrine with the key/spring part. I will fix that. Also, good point on the power ups - I was actually thinking of putting two power-ups (keep the second one in the item reserve box) and then disable the whole "enemy-getting-hit-makes-item-drop thing"

Also, I have screeny of the second OW in it's early stages for those interested:

Thanks everyone.

Well, I did say numerous times that the levels will get longer - I mean, theres only so far I can go with length before it just turns into an average SMW hack, but I plan on increasing the difficulty of the puzzles so you actually have to think - that is where the length will come in, and that is also the main reason I killed the timer in this hack.

As for the names, Verdant was meant to mean "green" and cobalt "blue". The main worlds will be called by the musical terms, but theres only a certain amount of names I could use before the theme dries up - so I mixed in a few fancy color terms in there too

And due to the large complaints about the pillars, I guess I had better do something about them, heh.

Actually I'm starting up a sort of storyline for the second world (it involves Beethoven, because, y'know, I'm keeping with the theme) so I may address something about that.

Maxx: Your error is caused by an octave error. When you insert it, does it look something like this?:

track 12.txt
34:???????
34:???????
35:???????

The numbers will be different of course.

I guess I had better post a progress thread here. Just a few screenshots of what I have going so far, along with a couple other goodies:

First overworld

Level in first world

Boothoven's Speech

Andante Fortress

Second overworld (actually named Andante, not Allegro)

Andante Causeway

The Lamentable Sea

Staccato Forest. The cut-off mist in the top right has already been fixed

And a video of the Boo-thoven fight. The song you hear was created by me, and it took a hell of a long time to get it right.

I know about the blue blocks, thanks

Finally, here are the three songs I have created for this hack so far. They are in SPC format, so google AudioOverload or SNESAmp or something, load them in, and let me know what you think.

Boothoven's Theme (boss)
Andante Snowfield (sad, slow moving OW song)
Staccato Forest (upbeat OW song)

I'm really taking the storyline into consideration with this hack too - it's going to be a fairly dark one, with a few interesting tweaks to it.

Comments would be lovely

I'm assuming blackhole meant G, but typoed .. or some flat or sharp. I know what he's saying though, so I'll fix it up.

@BVG: I forget which offset it's at, but there is one that controls the Boss Boo's HP. I just changed that. Oh, and yeah .. Reading and I already discussed that, heh

I come bearing two updates, already. One is a screenshot, one is a song:

Blue Melody Palace. Custom boss at the end of it, along with puzzling corridors

New Song

I don't really know where to use the new song I just made though, so I'm open to suggestions on that.

Thanks

Yes, finally, after two fucking years of working with this game, it is "done" and done is in quotes for a reason.

Until Keytastrophe, this hack has pretty much consumed 80% of my free time. It started as me being stupid and learning how to use the program, but after advice from Golden Yoshi (who I have to thank so damn much for all his help along the way, and beta testing absolutely everything) it turned into this.

Basically, this hack is done. Now, I use basically lightly. Extra 3 4 5 and 6 are incomplete, and that is it. Everything else is done, but I lost motivation for this hack. Big time. I call it complete though, because 1-1 to 6-8 is done.

There are probably still a plethora of minor glitches, but after playing through it six million times, there is nothing game breaking, except a part in 4-3 where you can't get 100 points. This happened because my Welcome level and 4-3 intertwined their data and corrupted each other - so I got to pick which one worked.

I am proud of how this turned out - I am proud to call it the second completed Yoshi's Island hack ever. To be honest, I don't care if anyone else is proud, because this is a personal achievement for me, and I'm quite happy to say so. For those who have been waiting years for this .. here is the link you have wanted:

Kamek's Revenge.ips

Features:

-54 or whatever brand spanking new levels, ranging from easy difficulty to pretty damn hard difficulty.
-Lengthly levels, ranging from 5 minutes to half an hour (there are plenty of mid-rings, but you can use save states I guess if you get stuck badly)
-The first Yoshi's Island hack to ever have ExGFX, so to speak. All the level icons are edited, and most sprites have slight GFX edits.
-Some slightly tweaked music, but again, that's another thing I lost motivation on.
-And more stuff which I don't remember.

So yeah .. enjoy what's here anyway. Please don't post glitches here, since this is the last time I'll be working with this hack. However, if there is something absolutely devastating that you absolutely CANNOT continue on, then I will fix it I guess.

Instead of screenshots, I'll link the three movies I posted earlier to give a sample of what to expect:

So that's all. Thank you to everyone who has supported me for the last two years, and I hope you all enjoy this. Kudos to those who beat it!

ALSO, PATCH IT TO A V1.0 ROM

Third time I have copy/pasted this. Woo.

(the first level theme had a few instruments changed and the patterns' order tossed around... is there anything else?)

The cave theme is a bit different, and same with the final boss theme. Other than that though, there is no more altered music.

I never had a problem with EggVine itself - it was always a very reliable editor in my opinion, even though others may not think so. The only time you can really fuck something up is once you break out the hex editor (see: two levels expanding that somehow overlap in each others data and cause a corruption)

If a new YI editor were created and released, it would be pretty neat, but it's not exactly something that's required - again, my opinion.

Squash: I agree with you on the search feature function - it is by far much more useful then LM is. The only thing I would hope to see in a new editor would be more detailed names for certain objects (I had to personally edit O4Data and change the names, since most of them just had a ? or something next to them)

Yeah. Just my 2 cents.
