No, inserting the music... sorry!
(I really hate asking questions.. i feel like i am needing too much of people.)

Don't feel bad. We all had to ask questions in the past.

Download the file and unzip it all to one folder. Make sure your ROM is in the same folder, and it NEEDs to be 1024 bytes or it won't work (1KB) After that, open Command Prompt, find the path to the folder, and then type the following:

"addmusic (romname).smc INIT"

Only type the INIT ONCE. If you type it more, it ruins your ROM. After that, type:

"addmusic (romname).smc"

Every time you want to add new music to your hack, make sure the files "11.txt, 12.txt, etc" are in the folder, and NEVER type INIT again.

Once they are in your ROM, open it in LM, go to the OW editor, then go to "Change Submap Music" Scroll down to tracks 11-18 labelled "Not Used" and then save. It should work.

Good luck!

(on a side note for people interested, I'm currently working on Midas River .. expect the spc and txt file tomorrow)

Ah. I bet you double clicked the "addmusic.bat" To open command prompt properly, go to Start -> Programs -> Accessories -> Command Prompt and try from there.

Oh, and here is Midas River. I love the sound of this one, even if the instruments aren't like the original, I think it sounds good.

Call it 13.txt
Midas River.spc

I don't remember if it starts instantly, but meh. Sounds fine I think.

Looking good. I like how you stick to one style of GFX, which is YI, and don't go all over the place. Your level design looks decent too, so nice job there. What's with Luigi hanging though?

I like your OW too, looks good. Are you planning on making that space above where Mario starts occupied by levels too? It looks a bit bland without anything on it right now.

Good start.

EDIT: Yeah, just watched the video. Heh .. very unique storyline. I'm expect some good stuff from this hack

Oh.

I just dump them one after another, and don't bother to change the name. Sorry

But how is that possible? At any point in the song, if the octave goes over o6 or lower then o1, it will give an error on the spot.

Make sure the destination path is the right folder. (I.E. cd\desktop\owmusicfolder\) and then once you're in the folder, type the "addmusic smw.smc INIT" once, then "addmusic smw.smc"

But yeah, you need the newest version of Java, so that may be part of darklink898's problem.

Ice Man is right, I missed that. The .bat will not work, as it is just an extension. You just need addmusic.

Also, I found out why only one song can be inserted. Thanks you my amazing ?????? translating skills, it turns out that the actual lines of text can't exceed a certain amount .. meaning if you have a horizontal scrollbar on the bottom, it's too long. After I fixed it up, my Rose Way and Star Hill worked.

Oh, and for those interested:

SMB3 Sky World
TXT

Heh, those are a cakewalk compared to SMRPG.

Oh, by the way, if anyone has any reasonable song requests, fire them off and I'll see what I can do. Now that I know what I'm doing, they should sound fine.

EDIT: Hooray for my first written-from-nearly-scratch remake of world 4 in SMB3.

Big Island
TXT

Oh that one is easy. The patch only works if the ROM has been opened in LM BEFORE patching it.

No problem, glad to be of assistance.

Though people will still ask, unfortunately

EDIT: What is this?!?!

Take a listen
.TXT

This is like, the only song in that game that will actually work this easily. I should try another

I'll give it a go

Yes, way too much yellow in that palette. Tone it down a few notches, or at least kill the brightness.

Also, your level design is looking a bit bland. Try spicing it up by adding some coins or detail, and maybe a few more sprites. That will make it look better.

Maxx: You can insert the music in a hack in-progress, you just need to import the music onto a clean 1MB ROM, then export all your data and ExGFX from your 2MB ROM onto the 1MB. Once you INIT once on the ROM, it is permanent and can always be used, no matter what size it is.

Also, here's two new songs for those interested:

SMB3 Dark World - now with extra eerie-ness.
.TXT

And:

Dry Dry Desert - this one is unfinished, so people who listen to it will notice some off-key notes .. I just thought I'd show the skeleton of it.

Ah, Chrono Trigger. There are no ties in that song, so I'll give it a shot. I'll need to download a .mid of it though, so don't expect the exact instruments.

Quick edit: I just popped it in, and it looks very possible. Actually, quite easy However, I have been doing this all day (it was raining ) so I should have it to you by tomorrow easily.

I could hear up to 17.7 .. meh.

I also have now have that ringing ound (tinnitis), but I think it was caused by one of the lower ones .. the 17.7 didn't bother me much, whereas the 14.1 .. hurt

Sounds pretty good Ice Man .. but I had a question for you. When you insert it, does it do that thing where no songs after it get inserted? Because here and then I hear an octave going too high. It doesn't sound bad though

Did you really need to quote the whole post to say that? And there's nothing wrong with his rips, they look nice

(well, except the last three screens before the overworld, that looks odd, but the rest are well done)

Heh, you think that's bad? The X-Naut Fortress theme from PM2 uses some o8s and o9s .. I gave up after I saw how long it was going to take

Oh, and Darklink .. I made Corridors of Time for you. It's one of my better pieces, so lucky for you I didn't screw anything up, I think. Listen to the .spc first and let me know what you think.

SPC

And if you want to use it in your hack, here is the TXT

TXT

Note: It was a big and long song, so in order to use this, you will have to get rid of 18.txt, meaning instead of 8 OW songs, you only have 7 choices. It doesn't matter though, since only 7 can be used on the OW anyway

Enjoy.

Ok, now I'm just being overrun with requests, heh. I said I would write a tutorial to someone last night in a PM, so I will do that.

lwares: The map music for YI is very possible. I already did one in about 5 minutes, then deleted it because I thought no one would care/want it. Which world do you want?

I posted this at SMW Central also. I'll copy what I said there

I kind of started this hack as more-or-less of a joke, but after playing with the OW music editor, I was truly inspired to turn it into something, knowing the possibilities of it.

There was a hack a long time ago based off of Mario vs. Donkey Kong where you had to get the key in each level to the keyhole. I forget who the creator was, but I know I commended him for doing it and thought it was interesting. He is long gone now, so I decided to try my hand at one.

The goal in each level is, obviously, get the key to the keyhole. Don't worry though .. the levels will be long, and they will challenge your brain .. I assure this hack will not be half-assed. Some features I've thrown in so far is ExGFX (obviously) customs events (hand-made because I can) and custom music (no .. really?)

Below are four screens. Enjoy.

The first overworld, which contains 8 or 9 levels. I'm debating whether to use the Rose Way theme or Toad Town theme for it .. opinions would be lovely.

Legato Highland. Creative name, eh? The special purple blocks will prove an annoying obstacle when you play the hack.

Legato Shrine. The first real level where you need to use your brain. Expect some interesting challenges.

Cobalt Pond, a secret level. You will need to traverse through the water avoiding urchins and stuff. Hooray. The backgrounds a gradient, I'm just currently up high, That's why it's solid blue

I'll release a demo after the first world, and I'll see what the interest in it is like. And yes, before I get rants, I will be adding more backgrounds and custom sprites.

Comments are welcome.

The princess is kidnapped and taken to dinosauar land! Now mario must go on a harsh quest to save the princess!

Wait a sec. This new Dinosauar Land sounds exactly like the original Dinosaur Land. Except the original game wasn't really harsh.

Your other storyline was .. more creative .. sure.
