I've been researching and editing MM1 since March. Now it's time to share one of my ASM codes I done recently (Unless you've done it on your own). The code I done is quite a genius for me because I need to recover some health each time I defeated a rematch boss in the wily levels. If you're a newbie or an existing MM1 hacker, then this is the right time to use it.

ROM OFFSET 0x1CABA and edit the following in your favorite hex editor.

The code has been removed by the user.

Example in screenshot

OOPS! I shouldn't call it a Gutsblock. Damn you Bisqwit. It's a special object#01.

Let me tell you something newbies just in case you don't know ASM. JSR jump to a new location while saving the current program counter. This is done by pushing the program counter onto the stack, then jumping to the location. In order for the user to return from the subroutine back to the originally saved program counter, a RTS or RTL instruction must be executed.

Basically I added new codes into an empty space because I don't want to overwritten the existing code. My current ROM uses freespace mostly for enemy AI's and others for everything else. The freespace location I used is at ROM offset 0x17F86. Use this address only if you're NOT using any space. Otherwise change another JSR code in the other RAM address.

BUT, there is a major problem. This takes away the spawn teleport in Wily 4 (Sprite 43). So if you're plan to use it in your hack, you have to change another scroll about 1 right or 1 down and don't forget to add special object 01 in your scroll path.

See NetSplit's post.

Of course, I was so stupid. I haven't got the edge to see the code properly before I modify it but this is pure genius. Anyway, the code I used causes a bug after I beat wily in stage 4 causes him to fall from the top middle screen.

Sorry about the mixed, confusing writing. I was using the FCEUABS Debugger to copy a few notes down with Bisqwit's notes as well and haven't got time to find out.

I'm not sure what MM1 ROM I'm using but I used Mega man (U) [!] to edit and I'm not sure if it has a header (or a change of an iNES header) or not.

It's really fun to learn ASM on my own as I'm still learning some basics and stuff.

You're using SMB Utility to do all of your levels, right?

What else, there aren't many good SMB1 Editors except YY-ME which is also a good editor. The only difference that YY-ME can open all SMB1 ROMs (Including iNES header changes) while SMB Utility can open only regular 40,976 and 41,488 byte SMB1 ROMs and iNES header must be original.

I wan't my SMB Editor to have the same effects as YY-ME if I'm good with C++ Knowledge.

@Frantik, I really like that Yoshi Egg animation end level.

That's the type of stuff that never exists in any Rockman/Megaman 2 game.

I hope the Japanese 2ch community talk about this since they talk about Rockman/Megaman hacks everyday. I checked there at least once every 3 days.

I wanna join and discuss but it costs money to register. And I don't talk in Japanese.

It's funny to say that my current hack has female robot masters based on GreenNinja and Nikla's artwork.

About the hack, Yeah, I'm looking foward to playing it soon. Something that most MM2 hacks don't even have yet.

(A little late?) I prefer the third chicken, starting from the left. Looks more like... chicken. And the other icons are spiffy, as always.

I almost lost interest, had I not watched the end of Rockman no Constancy. Fuck that--I actually got through the half-way mark where the music begins on my PowerPak, but I couldn't get that damn Item 3 to work after the spike pit.

I guess you started MM1 hacking. Good for you. You know, Visine is the other MM2 editor than Kuwata's MM2 editor but it's in DOS. Don't know the difference though but I have not used it yet.

I hope it is another spin-off of Rockman MIN (RM2 hack) or something. There aren't many MM1 hacks in the disposal other than Rockman RX and Rockman 2000 is the only good ones..

What type of gameplay should it have?

I recently played a Rockman 2 BETA hack called Rock n' Maxx and it plays like Mega man Zero. The mission select and the entire gameplay.

Spoiler:
The sniper joe army gives me the shit. After the crash man battle.

My recent assembly MM1 project

As you notice, you will see 3 ice slasher shots instead of the usual 1. And change it's attributes to normal gun instead of it's own. Now it won't freeze enemies.

But there is a problem. I have no idea how the joypad assembly thingy works in MM1 as I'm trying to make the weapon hold the B button similar to Needle Cannon/Quick bommerang. I do need some help on that one.

However, my new Ice Slasher weapon will be ported to my hack. And will take damage to enemies and the weapon firing takes 28 x 4 Ice Slasher shots. That's 112 Ice Slasher bullets altogether.

Whoa, It's been a while for SMB1 hacks.

I did however, put most of the Japanese SMB1 Hacks on my webpage in the hosted hacks section. That's not the case. I link the following sites where the Japanese sites came from.

http://jbbs.livedoor.jp/computer/6621/ - Romia BBS

They have all links to their sites rather than the bulletin board.

http://smbarchives.run.buttobi.net/ - SMB Archives

That's where all the hacks are hosted. I haven't got the chance to gather that many SMB1 hacks yet.

http://f11.aaa.livedoor.jp/~sinzandp/index.html

I am not sure but I used the site to link other sites.

I like it. I'll prolly tinker with it if you ever decide to release the hack.

Well, thanks. The coding is not yet done. The weapon I already did is the cut weapon which is one single edit. All I did is to set how far the scissor flies before flying back to Megaman.

It's a shame that it has 3 different data for each weapon modification.

- The AI
- The B Button Mechanics
- Megaman weapon fire

I've still haven't figure out the code for the Ice Slasher yet but everything is good so far what I have. It supposed to be a rapid fire weapon like the needle cannon. The B button holding is the one I haven't reseach yet in general.

There's a lot more to think of. I have many ideas though, such as making the Elec Beam freezes enemies. The Magnet Beam is the only one Unmodified.

Change it to Carry and I'll give you a cookie.

The only thing about changing the Magnet Beam is the graphics and the weapon palette color. Not the AI stuff.

Right now, cutting this MM1 assembly project for a while because I am now trying to port the Rockman DEM's weapon assembly into the US version of Mega man 2.

The only thing troubles me is the change of the JSR and JMP routines because the coding is different than the Japanese version. Everything is set except the K weapon which it shouldn't enconter the bug effect when it flies very far.

I've been doing it about 4 days ago. But I am stuck with the K weapon. And all weapon names are translated from Katakana Japanese to English.

Oh wow, haven't posted in General Chat in a while. Well, just one last time.

The whole reason Board 2 is such a real ROM-Hacking community like ROM-Hacking dot net or even my own board because we don't have that crazy shit boards like JUL or ||board. SMW Central is also a real ROM-Hacking community but we do a lot of fad stuff. I blocked these 2 sites in my forum affiliates in case other members in my forum rather go there.

I don't post in other forums anymore like I used to. Now I post only in ROM-Hacking forums and not SMW Hacking. Any other forums belong to Xeogaming. I rather post in Xeogaming more often than this one because it is the only forum community where I chat with other users.

Most likely, Me and Sakugarne are the only ones that keep my ROM-Hacking forum alive.

Well, not exactly because this board's activity is high when XKeeper is around. I wasn't here at the time when he's here but he didn't have to post a fucking thread to threaten my ROM-Hacking board. My girlfriend Sakugarne reported to me in the staff lounge.

And no, Sakugarne is NOT me. I shared her laptop with the same IP address.

The real reason why I didn't come to Board 2 when XK is around because my computer's harddrive is broken and unable to ROM-hack. I wanted to host my SMB2J+2 so badly and I was forced to fix it and released it late.

This board is so much better now. Why should this one need to be more active. You should ask Zophar's forums or RHDN forums.

I am expected to make at least 1 level from the GB to my NES MM1 game soon but the sizes may be different.

I used to get alotta questions on how I did SMAS Luigi in Luigi's Chronicles, when you open up my hack you'll see the offsets right on the fly. I'm sure that the Japanese SMB hackers will love this program...

I think so too. But I don't know if there are any existing Japanese editors exists besides TSA structures for objects and backgrounds and I'm not sure if SMB Remodler has that same feature as SMBGWS.

That's because the 2 ROMs has different formats and sizes. I haven't check these pretty often but I'm going to check these hexidecimal offsets tonight.

That was so awesome. I thought you're hacking SMAS for SMB3. Anyway, I didn't find enough data for the complete graphics dump or others and I never will.

It makes me wan't to hack SMB3 again. Someday, but not right now.

Looking foward to play this soon.

User Megamanxfreak from SMW Central inspired me to do a Megaman X graphics hack on my own. Thanks with his Megaman T Project. It will have some text changes but no palette changes. Don't worry, I haven't give up on my NES Megaman 1 Project yet because I am taking a small break.

It is a small graphics project called Mega Girl X. You'll notice that she has no helmet unless you get it yourself from Dr. Light. And her body is a little different than X. Female Zero is also included, but I have to use Lunar Compress to dump Zero's graphics or other graphic related.

I'll edit that part really soon. Right now you'll see only the text changed.

You'll notice that her helmet is from Megaman X2 and arm from Megaman X3. Boots and Armor remain as X1. Except her body should have boobs to look like a female.

Also, you may heard of that playable character from Megaman X8 which is Alia. I may have to do her soon if her tiles are compatable with X's tiles in the SNES Port. Both armor and regular.

Oh yeah, Megagirl X is based on GreenNijna's artwork.
