Hasn't GG been around for a very long time? IIRC it was around way long before any splits, and if it was started after a split it was around the first split anyway. I recall it being in Kirbynite's layout for the longest time.

I checked IRC this morning. Here's what I found out.

blackhole says the merger idea is up to the new staff, yet he is the one that owns this server.

...you know, I'm probably stating the obvious, but I have the strangest feeling that blackhole wants nothing to do with this community anymore. If thats the case I suggest two things:

1) Shut the board down. Many are already thinking this should have happened already.
2) Forum restart with a different leader. Let everyone come back without any past history being brought up to start conflict. Staff that gets appointed is not one-sided, but instead have the staff be from all around. Perhaps we can forget all past conflicts this way and just learn to enjoy the board for what it is, not hate it based on the users that go to it. Sure it'd be hard to do, but I'm sure that we could do it right.

I'm thinking 2 is the best way to go, if mostly for the rom hackers. Although the big thing here would be talking with everyone on all sides to see if they can handle the others without the past being brought up. Don't want to appoint an admin that'd demote someone because of how much they hate said person. This means that Xkeeper would be unbanned, Grey Mario and the like unbanned (board exploiters banned for obvious reasons still), staff members consisting of ||board, Justus, and original Board2 members, and a half-half ruleset in place to prevent conflict as much as possible (conflict is going to happen, but I don't want it to escalate to this much drama).

Also, I want to say:

If that is any indication, that means someone else has to step up and take control over this damn board, and since I'm the only admin that gives a shit, looks like I'm taking control over the situation.

My only question is for you all:
Should we shut the board down completely, or should we go with my plan that keeps the board but with everything taken at face value and a fresh start? Or hell, let's add in the merger idea as I'm sure there are those that are still in favor of that.

First off, what do you mean by a "restart"? A wipe would be bad for the sake of said ROM hackers and wouldn't really yield much use other than scaring even more people away. Anything else doesn't deserve grave and important-sounding words like "restart"... (somehow makes me think of a German comic I saw somewhere where a computer addressed its user saying something that could be rendered as "'Reboot' sounds so cold and unpersonal... let's call it a new beginning!")

I meant wipe it clean and start again. I know that the rom hackers need data and that is why if we go through with it we leave a note for them before we restart, proclaiming to save any valuable info they need before this happens. Hell, we have archives of previous board incarnations, we can have an archive of this here as well, perhaps. If we did do this option and things didn't turn out well... er, we can always do option 1 and quickly end it before more drama ensues.

Secondly, why are you so concerned about the community getting some kind of, in the one or other way, "leader"/tyrannical overlord who gets to dictate his opinion? I see no reason why an administration of equals, given an amount of guidelines as a "constitution" agreed upon in the beginning, should not work; it also would minimize the chances of such a case repeating.

I never said have a "tryannical overlord" dictating. We get someone who can manage the staff altogether and make sure nobody does things because they hate the user. The leader, of course, sets guidelines to banning and such and would prevent cases of "I hate so-and-so, therefore he is banned" and I really want to just see everyone enjoy the message board (if one is around). I never said a group couldn't be one leader, but we need someone to get the ball rolling and see how the community would feel about taking everyone at face value.
Let's put it this way: if I didn't step up to the plate and offer this, who the hell would have? A leader isn't one that rules everything and tries to keep all the power to himself, its one that trys to get things done right.

Does building in backdoors, truncating the DB multiple times and flooding 400MB into the PM table not count as board exploiting?

Building in backdoors was when Xk was in power and were for his use only really, and truncating the DB multiple times was just trying to piss you off. I was meaning people that would just exploit for taking passwords and such (see: roger, Spikeman). Those ones banned previously (Xk, Sonicandtails, etc) did exploit the board, yes, but if the board was actually better to their liking (as in, they could enjoy themselves while everyone else does as well) why would they need to do such a thing anymore? With a system that makes sure that we do things by face value, the would-be-staff will need to be talked to as to make sure they understand that this will be a fresh start for everyone and just get over the past. Any more exploiters would be banned on the spot of course.

As stated, you don't have to do this. The "leader" is someone stepping up, saying "Hey, let's fix the problem now" and this occuring. I'd rather have the community decide if this would be good. If they don't, the board can go boom. If they decide to do it, we do it for a bit and if it all goes wrong take it down. Trial run, if you will.

I say we try it. I mean, what the hell is there to lose? The board? People have already stated to shut it down and move on. Let's see how it goes with a different mindset first before doing that. I mean, we are still all here, right? There has to be some hope left if we are still here posting.

We have another hacker. Boo hoo.

Oh well, ignoring him, I'm continuing with my staff activities.

We have a few options concerning the future of the board. I've brought them up in the other thread but as to make it easier for all to see, I'm making a new thread.

1: Destruction of the board.
Quick, easy, gone. No more hacking bullshit. No more fucking drama. If we stop all posting and save the rom hacking sections at least it'll be good.

2: Restart.
We go back to square one with all members, with everything taken at face value. No "he sucks because he is him" and shit like that. If we take this route the staff would be from both sides and all would be welcome back.

As for the merger... if we did Plan 1 we all go our seperate ways anyway, whether it be ||board or Justus or whatever the hell else is out there. There will still be IRC at least, so not like we all lose contact with each other.

Let's get a poll, shall we?

Looks like its about half and half for both. Plus we got the minority vote for three oh boy.

One sounds good to me. Some, if not all of us, are already on ||board and Justus 2, so what's the loss? Once this is all over (if it ever ends) I'll probably end up on ||board myself while still being on Justus 2.

Sounds good to me really. Even if there is a main site do you expect this hacking/drama to end? I don't.

||bass doesn't mind a merge, but we've been talking about the technical side. Given the fact that this is still using the primitive Acmlmboard 1.92 database (no offense intended), it could take days to properly convert all the data; even then it won't be a 1:1 conversion so some data is sure to be lost simply because of incompatibilities. We're thinking if a merge of the communities were to happen, the simple solution would be to set up an archive of this board and have anyone that needs to, just register and post on what already exists of ||board; there's no e-mail confirmation needed either, so it's not that hard.
