And making towns grow, and just being bored and doing silly things, and building stuff, and so on ...

Blame it on them for wanting me to play, that's how I got addicted

Even before that change, I think we had it 1-2 weeks later than Europe ...

We also have it later in November now, so it might happen again once we get there

No one is going to fall for an emulator that can emulate almost all of the systems.
More like, no one is going to fall for one that only emulates his own hacks and favorite games

... the link doesn't even work, either

A little of both for me ... I like headphones, but the wireless one I have (I wanted wireless because my older ones kept breaking after a while, from tripping on the wire or whatever) doesn't sound that great and interferes badly with the wireless phone in the house (annoying noisy tone whenever someone's on the phone) ...

So I use my headphones more often at night when everyone is sleeping, but my room is far enough from the rest that I can leave the speakers on anyway

I didn't even notice the view count was nearing 1 million until earlier tonight

In other news, I got online with MacOS 9.0.4 on a emulated PowerPC, mostly out of boredom since it works much better in Windows ... and the emulator is somewhat unstable, I was going to post from it but it crashed when I previewed the post and tried to open a link in a new window The board doesn't look too messed up (I used a fairly recent browser) but still a bit weird, like this ... I got on IRC too, for a short time ...

This would be even better if I could do it in MacOS 7 (the programs I used were also available for it), if I had any clue how to get Internet access set up for it

(edited)
Ok, Mozilla is definitely better

FF3 DS is a full 3D remake with some important changes but it still plays close to the original and kept most of the story/music/world/monsters/etc. the same ... but a really good example of discontinuity in that series is FF3 US -> FF7, which probably left a lot of people wondering until the FF4 and FF5 were ported to PlayStation

Then there's Dragon Warrior that went with 1-4 on NES, then 7 on PlayStation (5-6 on SNES were Japan only), then it became Dragon Quest (like in Japan) for 8 ...

There was Bomberman GB 1 to 3 in Japan, which (in order) became Wario Blast, Bomberman GB and unreleased here

I remember on my old Macintosh (1992), I had an antivirus but it supported about a dozen different viruses, which were all listed in the About box ... now any modern one (at least for Windows) just has so many thousands of them to care about

Or when 640x480 was considered a high resolution, and 16bit color was a lot of colors, and floppies could fit a decent amount of stuff, and the Internet was small ...

That's mostly the early 1990's though, but I didn't really get the chance to use a computer by then

I still use .zip sometimes, just because it's more common and doesn't force people to get a RAR or 7zip extractor ... but yes, .7z > .rar > .zip

I haven't had any serious problems with Internet Explorer either, but still switched to Firefox about 2 years ago and never went back (except when I needed to) ... I haven't even bothered with Internet Explorer 7

I only use one extension (Adblock), but it's definitely nice to have ... then I use a compact theme, and this is all I have at the top:
- Menu bar
- Small icons for previous, next, refresh, stop, home | URL bar
- Tabs

I still haven't tried Opera yet

(using Photoshop 6)
PNG 24bit (no loss) = 13.9k
PNG 8bit, 256 colors = 7.8k
PNG 8bit, 64 colors = 5.6k
JPG at 100 quality = 8.5k
JPG at 80 quality = 4.8k

They all look good enough too, there's no reason to use BMP ever (and just because most people have broadband now doesn't mean this shouldn't matter anymore, bandwidth still counts)

I think 100x100 is too small. Especially when there's text involved. I really wanted to use this avatar too....pity.
It was going to be 60x60 and 20k until Xkeeper convinced me to set it higher, it was also 60x__ on the old one until Xkeeper changed it, so thank him for even having 100x100

Posted by HyperHacker
Also, Firefox for some reason reports this image is 0KB, and views it as plain text. I suspect the server isn't sending a content-type header or something.
This could probably be fixed without using file extensions, they're just stored that way to make it simpler to get the file (only needing the user id) ... all that's stored in the database is a "usepic" field (0 or 1), changing that to the file type could fix it ...

And remember there's the 60x60 one for the memberlist as well, automatically resized (and saved as PNG) from whatever you upload

I go to "Latest posts" all the time too ... it's usually 2-3 pages but it's still faster than looking through every forum (and skipping the ones you don't care about), and I don't even need to use "Mark forum read" because everything on that page is new

Otherwise, I still think a "ignore forum" feature would be better (to get it completely out of the way), but a "Mark permanently read" would be easy to do ...

And here's me when I was 15 (June 1999) and went to Yahoo Chat from the school library, before I even knew about message boards and my English wasn't as good, I was such a newbie too

Animated GIF's lose their animation when resized (not much I can do about it), and transparency is lost, but it's saved as a separate 60x60 image for a few reasons

- Doesn't need to be resized everytime, only when changed
- Looks better since it's antialiased
- No horizontal/vertical stretch if it's not square (but a black border instead)
- Smaller filesize (at least when it's originally bigger or animated)

I didn't keep it at 100x100 since that stretched it up too much, and it looked too empty without the images like Xkeeper did before

For the 100x100 image, animated GIF's work because they're saved as is, at least if they're not over the size limit ...

From the site today:

In case you have not noticed, we updated our TV - Shows and our Movies - Videos sections. Check them out! We now offer even more classic shows for you to download! Also, Project Zero has NOT ended yet. If you wish to participate, you still can! For those of you on step 5, want a hint? There is more to the image than comes to mind.

And looking at old news, there's some from ZeldaFreak:
12/3/2004 by ZeldaFreak
Wow, another update! Sorry, but this just had to be said. All those fanboys out there need to wakeup. Click here to read the article.

It seems many of you missed out on The Game Developer's Conference on 3/10/2005, but fear not, I've come across the transcript that you can read. Click here to read it!

4/21/2005 by ZeldaFreak
We got some new things on the site thanks to Okibi! Good luck with Project Zero for anyone who is participating.

6/2/2005 by ZeldaFreak
DVDRipper celebrates it's 10,000th download today! Visit the DVDRipper project page to find out more.

Thanks to ZeldaFreak, Rated O brings you their Nintendo DS & Sony PSP Stress Tests! Click here to read it. Also, we got all the Dragon Warrior cartoon episodes up for you to download, with Legend of Zelda cartoon episodes on the way. More theme songs and commercials are up as well!

7/5/2005 by ZeldaFreak
New Nintendo Revolution rumors have leaked to the web! Click here to read our report on this new info. Also, due to the complexity of the new Project Zero contest, we'll be delaying the next contest until sometime next week so that we can make it easier for our visitors to solve. Prize is still undetermined, but you can email okibi some ideas!

His one and only post was a month later (when the board was opened) about the August 2005 contest being canceled, apparently it was his and he left staff that month (but it was canceled for other reasons) ... not sure if it's related to the answer, but it could be a hint

It's been 3 years since I played through Dragon Warrior 4 and I haven't seen much of 6 so I couldn't recognize everything, but it looked pretty good Only the last chapter (with the hero) was shown, though ...

Now he'd just need to change the music to Dragon Warrior 4's (remade for SNES), maybe fix some of the gameplay differences between 4 and 6, and of course a English translation, and it'd be perfect
