So, my computer will sometimes randomly glitch. This glitch causes it to (when I am typing) overlap any text in front of it (no matter what program I am using). It's very anoying, for I will be doing homework or some such thing, and I will go back and type a new sentence, just to realise I deleated the one in front of it. Has anyone ever heard of this happening before? And if so, could you tell me how to fix it?
. .. ... Please? |

There's a forum for computing.
And the problem is just that you've hit the Insert key. Hit it again to switch it back. |

I'm assuming you are using some kind of Word Processor program, right? Along the bar that is most likely on the bottom, try to find the letter 'OVR'. If you see them, then you know you accidentally hit the insert key, which changes you from insert mode (like normal typing) to overwrite mode, which will type over the letters in front of the flashing bar. To fix, hit the insert key again. It should switch to saying 'INS'.
(These instructions are based on the assumption that you are using Microsoft Word. If you are not, then you may not see what I am describing. Should this not help, please inform us as to what program you ARE using, so that we may diagnose it easier.) And yes, this does belong in computing... EDIT: Also, I didn't read JDavis's post, so what I've said is a really lengthy repeat of what he said... ____________________ My current complication: Girl's name who gets no more than 10 minutes of screen time in the actual game. |

JDavis: Thanks, thats probably my problem. And I have never posted something like this before, so I didn't realise to use the computing place
ArBeWhy: WTF MaxKnight: Yeah, I do have MWord, and I think I understand what you are talking about. Thanks |

In before "reformat c:\ and keep hitting y"
You are probably hitting it when you reach for the backspace key. edit: I got a "You cannot post in this restricted forum!" when I tried to post this. What the fuck? |

Usually the backspace key is wider. For me, it is as big as a letter key, and is very easy to hit "\" or Insert. It is very annoying as I do not always look at the screen as much as I glance at the keyboard. ____________________ |

I had spilled a great deal of coffee over my stock Dell Keyboard. Ended up having to switch to this cheap one that makes a lot of noise. ):
It has the same keys as what you are describing. I find it almost impossible to adapt to hitting that tiny backspace key. Unless I am deleting something very long but also not worth just highlighting and deleting (in which I just rapidly hit it with my index finger), I have to attempt hitting it with my broken pinky. Damaged for life, can't bend it straight anymore and I miss it quite often. I think this would be a good thread actually for discussing new ideas for a keyboard layout. xD ____________________ |

Oh, so that's why so many threads remain in the wrong forum forever.
I have the small \ and backspace and L-shaped enter, and that's how I like it. With the longer \ key, I'm always hitting it at the same time as enter, adding a \ to my password or whatever I was typing. My keyboard sucks otherwise, but it's spillproof, which is important because I eat and drink at the computer. Peh, I should get a normal keyboard and a plastic cover instead... |

I lol'd at the Mac keyboard my school had, which was basically a tub shape. Raised edges. It's uncomfortable and anything spilled in it will pool up, ensuring you're screwed!

Flurry #&postrank& Posted by XkeeperIt is (and has been for a long time, it's how trashing works), except there's no "Edit thread" page to go with it yet I've had the same keyboard model since 2002 (basic IBM keyboard that looks like this, but French Canadian and with the vertical Enter key), new again in 2005 with a new computer, so I'm really used to it now ... Mine stays in perfect shape too (except wear and dust), not too hard since all I ever eat/drink near it is the occasional soda can or beer ____________________ |
