I will soon have the cash, but before I tried to get mom to use her card, I was thinking of asking around the board, what works well for you?
And also, is it true about an AR DS playing DS ROMs off the cards? If assistance is given, I thank you in advance for the info. If it's the wrong forum, then "Blast." |

This should probably go in the Gaming forum.
They're called Flash Carts, not cards. Yes, you can use AR DS codes on Flash Carts (some have the ARDS built-in). ____________________ |

Posted by NightKevBlast. Posted by NightKevBlast. Posted by NightKevWhoops, we didn't get the same topic there. I heard that by holding "Select" on bootup with an Action Replay DS that you could actually emulate the DS ROMs in that method. |

Uh, I don't think the ARDS can emulate DS Roms...(that's probably not what you mean but ...) ____________________ |

Something like that.
http://wiki.pocketheaven.com/Action_Replay_DS is the article, saying it acts like NoPass. It seems reliable, but is it confirmed? Also, there was that one question back there, what Flash Cart would you reccomend? |

I don't have one myself, but I would say get one that can hold at least 25+ roms, otherwise you'll be deleting them quite often (unless you buy more than one). ____________________ |

I use my ARDS as NoPass all the time. |

Um. Get a Slot 1 Flash Cart...
I have a M3 Simply and it works sweet, and if you really want, you can spend a little more money and buy a M3 Lite Perfect and play GBA games and such! The M3 Simply acts as a PassMe also, and it has built-in AR with thousands of built-in cheats to boot! ____________________ I miss post headers more. |

I own a Supercard CF myself. No "excellent" GBA-capable device exists however. Various common potential issues include the lack of saving in Pokemon FR/LG/Emerald, missing solar sensor, inability to properly run games like Wario Ware Twisted, etc.
From what I've heard, M3 is widely praised and currently the best at GBA. ____________________ |

I have an M3 Perfect CF, and it's sexy. It works as both a GBA and DS flash cart, though you'll obviously need either a NoPass or a modded DS to use it in DS mode. ____________________ [citation needed] |

Starting from the first reply...Posted by HyperHackerThat confirms it, then. Thanks. Posted by SonicandfailsThe last time I checked anything, I didn't see anything about a Slot-1 cart. So I left myself behind in updates, yeah. M3 Lite Perfect...so it'll work on its own, then? Since I have the DS Lite, an M3 Simply wouldn't work, with PassMe instead of NoPass, right? I understand it's bad questions, but I'm just making sure I'm 100% accurate with what I understand. Posted by theclawI don't think I was planning on playing those games, so hopefully it son't be a problem. M3...might as well get that, then. Posted by BMF54123I guess this all meand I'll get the M3 then. I'll get what you got I guess. And the AR DS will be all that I'll need, then. Thanks for the info. Now I just need to convince her...doubted if it will work, of course. |

Unless you want to patch NDS games and buy a Passcard also (which is expensive), then buying a M3 Lite Perfect for NDS and GBA altogether can be a hassle. Let me run it down...
M3 Simply DS: Buying this with a microSD card allows homebrew and NDS games to work with some patching for some homebrew (DLDI, but its universal patching so its nothing big.) Does not play GBA. $44.95 without microSD M3 Lite Perfect: Buying this allows GBA and NDS, but the NDS support is buggy and needs patching. Does most homebrew, and requires a PassCard. Around $100 including PassCard. So it depends, if you want near 100% NDS support, get a M3 Simply, but if you want near 100% GBA and around 80% NDS, then get a M3 Lite Perfect. Or, if you want both with near 100%, the logical thing is to get both. EDIT: Forgot. DS Phat owners (including me) need to get this instead of the M3 Lite Perfect (unless you get the replacement GBA shell for it) http://www.realhotstuff.com/m3-slim-sd-p-75.html ____________________ I miss post headers more. |

I wouldn't say the M3 Perfect's NDS support is "buggy"...the M3 team does a good job of keeping their tools up to date. There are only a few titles that don't work, AFAIK.
Also, you don't need a passthrough device if you flash your DS's firmware, and there's even a "free" way to do it. If you can find a Max Media Dock at your local Best Buy/Circuit City/wherever, just buy that and a CF card, download and run FlashMe, and then return the MMD for a refund (keep the CF card for the M3). Presto, your DS is ready for the M3. ____________________ [citation needed] |

In response to Sonicandfails... I'll still stick with M3 Lite, since I was planning on both from the getgo. I don't have a regenerative source of cash like you, maybe. In response to BMF54123... Actually, I planned on the AR DS from the getgo, as it really serves a dual purpose: Codes for some DS games, which may be odd type, and it runs the card, too. Anyways, if I mess with the insides of the DSL(? DS Lite...), then the warranty is null and void. Using external attachments leaves minimal traces, if any. |

Regarding FlashMe and warranty, Nintendo doesn't seem to give a damn and can't really tell if you uninstall it. You can use Stealth to keep the boot screen but it's still possible to tell by just holding A+B+X+Y. If they can't prove that your modifications caused the damage, then they can't void the warranty because of them, or so I've heard.
Don't be fooled by DLDI either. When people call it "patching for homebrew" it sounds like the same deal as patching commercial ROMs, which is hacking and can be a pain in the butt, unreliable, etc. DLDI is a system built into the program, designed to be patched - you basically swap out executable files embedded inside the program. So none of the issues you get with commercial ROM patching. It simply installs a driver for your choice of card, so a program doesn't have to be recompiled every time a new card comes out and doesn't have to contain 500K of drivers for cards you don't use. |
