HI there! I've been working on this level hack for SMB3 for a little while now, and was wondering if I could get some opinions on it. It's called A New Beginning, and so far (And all I really set out to accomplish) what is done is all of World one, save for text edits. I'm a little proud of it, as a first time venture into Hacking.
Here are a few Screen shots:

The World Map:

Level One: A New Beginning.

Level Three : The Brothers .... Lakitu?

Level Four: Up and Down River

Level Five: Underground Passage

Roving Hammer Bros:

And now for the patch file itself: http://www.mediafire.com/?23gkg5dnmo2

Tell me what you think, should I re-do something? Scratch something? Quit Level Hacks forever?

Thanks for your time

Oh, and Two notes:

1) I'm thinking of Wiping level one and redoing it from scratch. Yay or Nay?

2) There's a hidden 1-up on every level. If you have too much trouble finding them, I'll post some hints later.

I'm downloading the patch but before I try it I'll just comment of the screenshots.

OW-Looks pretty good although I'm not to sure that the flames fit in with the rest of it.
L1-Bullet Bill launchers in the first level is something new.
L3-It's what you would expect to see around 2 Hammer Bros.
L3-Looks like a good challenge.
L4-Very nice
L5-It looks like it's possible to get stuck between the two walls...
L5-Not bad.
HB-Good.

I tried the demo out, it's pretty cool. You have nice level design ideas, my favorite level is level 1-4 so far. Keep up the good work okay?

Not too bad, although some of the screens look a bit "wooden-block heavy."

The main map layout is good, but as a whole it looks a bit too similar to the original SMB3. Something as simple as changing the palette so that the brown dirt turns into green grass would probably help.

Aside from that this looks pretty interesting. Keep us updated!

Yeah, if you were to slide in there while crouching, I can't see you getting back out.

I've played 1-5 (2 and 5 I haven't completed) and here are my thoughts:

Level 1: Pretty good level. I have no major problems with it, but it didn't stand out either. Up to the second moving platform it's my first SMB3 level with more coinblocks

Level 2: Blarg, annoying. You don't really stand much of a chance coming into this level small do you? Never bothered to complete it, not worth a toad-house.

Level 3: I like me this level. Good challenge without being too hard. That mushroom in the middle of the Lakitu attack is perfectly placed, good job.

Level 4: Meh overall, 1/2 the level can be skipped with properly timed flying, but so can many levels like this, the idea of using hidden blocks to continue like that is good, but their placement is awkward, unless you mash A you're likely to be sent off the screen to your death.

Level 5: Okay so far, but continuing is a problem due to this:

As you can see, the shell is stuck in that diamond shaped opening, it circles around and around it, and jumping down results in death, the same thing happens with the upper diamond, but that you need to walk straight into it instead of dropping onto it. To get to this point, you must be small, or you're stuck(another problem that's already been pointed out) so basically, you need to drop down on the shell, and maybe it won't kill you, I'm not sure, I haven't lived through it yet.

Overall, there are some interesting ideas in some of these levels, (Level 2 I would suggest for use as a later game concept), but there are some problems that need to be fixed, otherwise, great hack so far.

Ok, it seems a lot of people are wondering exactly what's up with that section in stage 5 XD. First off, if you slide in there as big, you CAN get out, you just have to crouch down, then hold it as you jump.

They way you were supposed to clear that bit was: Collect the Turtle shell, then fire it so it goes around that little loop, then slide onto the wooden block. You should land on it, then fall through while the shell is bouncing back.

Thanks for the support guys. I'll probably be moving level 2 a bit further on in the game.

Oh, and if you're having trouble with level three, the level two mushoom house could come in handy....

I figured the puzzle out, but for some reason the shell got stuck in the brick's place, that's what my screenshot was of, it stopped doing this when I ran it again, strange. Anyway, I'll finish the hack and comment on the other levels later.
EDIT:

Level 5: Pretty good, however, you can see where the hidden blocks are by the pallete of the background.

Fortress: The spinny-shiny-thingy (I don't know what to call those things) jumps are done well, but that's about all this level is, too short.

Level 6: A tough level, but fine, the one part with the three Boomerang Bros. is a bit overboard though.

Ship: Pretty frantic, but in a fun way, also too short.

The levels, overall, are pretty good, but the difficulty varies a large amount, and the major problem is that alot of the levels are just too short, they're difficult, and usually pretty fun while they last, but they don't last very long.

Tee Hee! Update!

Well, I've decided to go further on this hack, and the first ting I went about doing was a change on the World map Palette (Thanks PSlugworth). It's up in the screenshots section now.
I Like it a lot more. Opinions?

Also, I've started creating the overworld for Level 2. I'll have a shot of that, and a few more levels later this week.

What's that weird glove-thing in the screenshot?
Also, what editor are you using to make the hack? (I'm not too familiar with NES editors)

That "Weird glove thing" Is actually my mouse, I was somehow able not to notice it floating around in the screen shot. When I get a chance, I'll get rid of it.

The editor I'm using is just SMB3 Workshop.

This looks cool, but the levels from the screen shots look far too blocky and unrealistic. Perhaps add some natural wear-and-tear?

Natural Wear and tear? I'm sorry, but what exactly do you mean by that?

"Wear and tear"?

I think he means the screens are kinda bland, like just one type of block in an area. Try mixing things up a bit using a bigger variety of objects, and adding some background objects like bushes and/or clouds.

I was unable to download it because MadiaFire said it had an Error - somebody removed the file. Looking good, looking good! Just update Level 5. But If anybody needs help hacking a Map, I'll always make one for you!

It looks good, but as a point of advice on the map, don't have level 6 so far away from the fortress like that, because if Mario dies in level 6 after completing the fortress he goes all the way back to the fortress and then has to go all the way over again. Try adding a more direct road between the fortress and level 6, to which you can go directly after completing the fortress. Keep the road with the lock still there, so that if you have game over after beating the forthress, in the continue game you can directly access level 6 from level 3. Overall, though, it does look good!

EDIT: minor grammar correction.
