Well, if you can cheat freely without the AR, well...
Nintendo can't even figure out who's using pirated DS games. |

Nintendo could probably do better, they just don't care. And I don't understand the mentality of people who would waste their time cheating at games against other people. Does it make them feel like big men or something? Probably just the troll mentality at work. ____________________ Zelda Hacking Forum hobbies: delectatio morosa |

I'm sure it's "unremovable" in that the game does several checks to the point where it'd be extremely hard to remove with an AR, for example...
But I doubt it's "unremovable" permanently. That's why there's save editors ____________________ I dealt with it. |

I'm thinking server-side flag that can be bypassed by changing your WFC ID and/or MAC address myself. |

It (used to involve) trading and then shutting your GBA off once the person you're trading to gets the pokemon, but before your game records losing it and saves. At least that's how it used to work. ____________________ |

... Isn't that exactly how that same damn glitch worked in the original Red/Blue?

Cloning in Emerald is done the following way (Not what NightKev said):
1. Beat the Elite 4+Champion to gain access to the Battle Frontier. 2. Find and enter the Battle Tower. 3. Go to the PC and deposit the Pokémon you want to clone. 4. Save your game. 5. Remove said Pokémon from the PC. 6. Speak to the nearest person (wireless corner, I think) to initiate a connection. 7. When it asks if you want to save your game (the first time), say yes. 8. If the game paused for a second or two, then good. Immediately exit the dialog. Do not actually save your game at this time, I repeat DO NOT ACTUALLY SAVE YOUR GAME AT THIS TIME! 9. Turn your game off, then on. 10. the Pokémon that you deposited should still be in the box, despite it still being in your party. You have successfully cloned a Pokémon. This method can also be used to clone items, such as TMs and Master Balls. Just attach the items you want cloned to Pokémon in a box, then save the game, remove the items, and proceed like normal. You can clone many items very easily without cloning a single Pokémon, in case you are paranoid that Pokémon cloning will screw something up (it won't). ____________________ My current complication: Girl's name who gets no more than 10 minutes of screen time in the actual game. |

So wait... does that mean that I, considering I have data for an Arceus I got via Wifi, could be banned from going online?
I'll go back and check the article... EDIT: I understand now. |

Woohoo...I'm glad I'm behind on technology.
ZSNES netplay is less crap than actual DS WiFi. That's gotta say something. |

I just hope Nintendo doesn't go crazy and say anyone with an AR Pokemon will be banned, the GTS isn't perfect, I'm sure a few pokemon I have off there are hacked. I don't own an AR, and the only cheating device I've ever had was my GB/C gameshark which fails to work anymore. I'm not a cheater, I only used the Gameshark when I was really bored or wanted Pokemon Nintendo wasn't nice enough to give to people... *coughcelebicough* even though most of those Pokemon suck. ____________________ Why are you reading this? Posted by ValkyrieI think Nintendo's online play is behind even Kalierra (or whatever that shitty emulation plugin is everyone insists on using), and that says something. To sum up my experience with WFC, even with a very good connection, router, and distance (like, 7 feet): Connecting to Nintendo WFC... Warning! Are you sure? {YES} ESRB notice: Gameplay may suck during online play. {OK} Warning! Your name and birthday will be shown to opponents! {OK} (Rankings) some japanese nut ... 25 wins Brandon ... 2 wins Zelder ... 0 wins (back to WFC menu) That was... pointless. (Novice Battle) Finding opponent, please wait a moment ... ... ... (10 minutes later) Searching .......... (Backout, Free Play/Birthday Battle/whatever) Searching for opponent... ... (20 minutes later) Okay, fuck this. Connection error 5020125725, please reconnect to Nintendo WFC... The best part is that ZSNES and Nintendo WFC share "friend codes", it's just that ZSNES's have periods (000000-000000 versus 000.000.000.000)... but ZSNES is much more stable, easier to use, and doesn't try hiding all of your information or forcing really, really short games or disabling chat/whatever. ____________________ I dealt with it. |

There's also Pokesav, or whatever it's called. Flash cart owners don't even need AR codes for certain things. They can edit the save file to put in virtually any Pokemon now.
Also, the US and Japanese save data is compatible for those who have a way to transfer it between games. ____________________ |

Ever since the 3rd generation, Pokémon games have tried and apparently failed to be very difficult to hack. It's funny, since before that they employed virtually no protection at all. The worst "anti-hack" I can recall in G/S is that Pokémon's stat blocks are no longer copied directly from ROM, which means no type modifiers since the type is no longer stored in RAM/SRAM. And that's not even a protection, it's just common sense on behalf of the programmers. In Stadium 1 (unsure of 2), it'd highlight the names of hacked Pokémon (impossible movesets), but that's all it seemed to do.
Having not experimented with those games (I beat Ruby, haven't hacked it, and haven't even touched the others) I can't be sure, but I suspect the protections must make for some fun glitches. Of course, it's always possible to fake a legit Pokémon. It gets harder every time, but generally doesn't take long to figure out. Hence why I lol at Nintendo's claims that they can always tell, especially when they said this about G/S where the only way they could tell was by having the wrong original trainer data. |

D/P with the previously mentioned save editor, lets you set any ability to any Pokemon, something I don't think R/S could do. Wonderguard Spiritomb or Sableye would be unstoppable against certain opponents. I haven't taken the WG Mewtwo into WFC, it'd be boring to watch it rip through just about every team.
For the same reason, Stadium 1 highlights G/S tradebacks that had otherwise legit moves which said Pokemon couldn't learn normally in the 1st generation. ____________________ |
