The R4/M3 flash carts now have built in Action Replay support in their newest firmware update. Of course...This is bad.

It not only comes with thousands of cheats, but they can all be used on WFC!
This is very bad.

Message boards left and right are complaining about second placers in Mario Kart DS using Bullet/Blue Shell over and over again against their opponents and having incredible speeds.

Also, full HP/Ammo and see through walls is available on Metroid Prime: Hunters.

Not even that, but cheats to royally fuck up a town are available and ready to be used on Animal Crossing: Wild World WFC.

And to top it all off, Starfox: Command matches don't even start anymore, they end right away giving the person cheating an instant win.

The M3/R4 is basically the same flash cart, and are very very mainstream. Anyone who is anybody has one. So yes. WFC is fucked unless Nintendo figures out how to fix this issue, which they may just not.

Hooray for grandma fixing the issue, she must be smart.

But that seriously screws up my hopes for any decent WiFi play. So much for that idea. I'm just waiting until N1NT3ND0 starts releasing patches to their games like a PC. XD

Feegyoors.

I keep playing against these totaly hax'd up Tetris players with implausible win statistics who cause about 15 lines of garbage to appear for every 2 lines cleared this is beyond lame ;\ What I want to know is what does the flashcart have to do with anything. Do the games themselves disallow the use of the AR over WFC? Wouldn't that be software-based as opposed to hardware-based? I'm missing something here, aren't I.

Actually, tetris has already been hacked to make every block a blue l

So basically its a perpetual star...

But yeah, I hardly play on WFC anymore since everyone is an 8 year old whiny brat

Yes you are. The flash carts can be used over WFC, I own a M3. When you go to start the game, it asks you if you want to Cheat, and you can activate cheats in there and just connect to WFC and boom, instant cheats.
Oh wait. Are you talking about normal Action Replay? The one you buy in the store? I don't know if it works over WFC or not, but I'm sure it does too.

Oh I see, its built IN. Well that...yeah, makes things a it screwy ;\ especially if games themselves prevented WFC cheating by searching for AR hardware. Making it built in just...blah. This really isn't too cool. Oh well. It was bound to happen.

But how many players online are going to be using the cheats? Probably a substantial number but not the vast majorities.

I understand *why* they would add the Action Replay support (some people do like to fool around and I like to as well after I complete a game) but I usually play with friends instead of strangers. So me not worried.

It takes just one asshole to completely fuck up everything for everyone.
It's like you're having fun racing against legitimate players, playing tetris against legitimate players, etc. And then some FUCKER comes in with cheats, and suddenly everyone loses no matter what.

It sucks. As a software programmer, I'm not sure how Nintendo could fix something like this, other than shutting down the companies that make the flash carts, and even then, that won't solve much.

I don't like playing Tetris with other people... I prefer single-player. As for Mario Kart. That's meant for multiplayer games. Of course I'd play online.

If someone were to be cheating, however (or be an asshole by waiting for me to get close to the finish line, should I be losing), I'll disconnect my router. Assholes and cheaters do not deserve to win. And I do not deserve any losses just because of them. So I lose losses from the assholes or cheaters. ... Although it has barely happened.

I still don't understand why Nintendo Nindento would allow cheating devices online, though.

Even the most basic of security options could at least help (such as not storing the addresses for the important shit in the same spot over and over)...

But honestly, just because cheaters aren't exactly common doesn't mean they won't be on WiFi -- you might actually get cheaters more often with this since (obviously) if you're cheating the whole fun of it is going online.

Oh, one more thing.

Don't forget that the whole Nintendo WiFi Connection and friend code system is utterly retarded, preventing:
- Being able to report anyone for cheating (users can change names almost instantly with no penalty)
- Not being able to quit when a known cheater joins (see names)
- No sort of in-game "Report this player" option

I've said it before and I'll say it again -- X-box Live solves all of these problems and then some. If you're finding another player is being an utter dickhead (cheating, hacking, spurting racial slurs every three seconds) you can report them freely, and many people used it (and even more outright lost subscriptions)

Oh, and the real kicker?

Any thread about cheaters on Nintendo's forums is instantly deleted. I was there when the start of the Tetris cheating was going on (one idiot with infinite-I pieces) and there were at least 4 threads made (and deleted)...

Oh well.

Oh boy, this would also give people who reverse engineer for fun a bad name now. And maybe they will go head-hunting.

Although it's true what XK says. There's some basics tricks to prevent cheating in peer to peer games. If I made a peer to peer game, I probably would solve it somewhat like openTTD (the whole game is run on each computer and commands are sent inbetween the clients. If it's a client cheats, he will sooner or later desynch as soon he does something that seems impossible for other clients).

And it's kinda hard to resolve this too. It's called Read Only Memory for a good reason. :/

I doubt it, if they delete posts about cheating, it seems like they're trying to pretend it doesn't happen, and even if they did, what could they possibly do? It's not like people are breaking any law by making cheat codes. This does suck though, I hope the amount of cheaters has been exaggerated, otherwise, no MP: Hunters wifi for me.

Well I doubt 50% of all people playing MP: Hunters right now are cheating.

Now, how is Nintendo doing Pokemon trading in Pearl/Diamond? Are they using a database for that, because if so... :\

Probably the same way the GB(C/A) ones did it, just over wi-fi

Yeah but apparently you can put Pokemon up for trade and specify what you want for them in return. So I dunno how they do that.

We'll find out in a week. But that might be annoying... people giving away Level 100 Mew's or something ridiculous.

Dear god, so much for my plans of Pokemon DP WiFi. I always hated Sharkers and AR'ers. Let's hope DP willhave something against this.

Pokemon D/P already have enough to mess up the online trading thing, anyway. Let's see... you can clone stuff in Emerald (and R/S? not sure), you can AR things in FR/LG/R/S/E, you can glitch stuff in D/P (Japanese version; there are glitches to get Darkrai and Shaymin/Sheimi already, even though their events aren't out yet, and it seems likely to have a way to get Arceus/Aruseus), and so on and so forth.

As for the cheating... ehh... There's been a decent amount of stuff with MPH and MKDS anyway.

WFC has been useless for a while now. ARDS, ROM hacks, Dipstar, and its incredibly stupid design have all made sure of that. Nintendo doesn't seem to give a rat's ass.

Yeah, even if they solve this AR problem, there's a lot more that can be done, like HH said, hacks and such. It IS a flash cart after all, doesn't mean you can't put unofficial roms on it.

Of course, Nintendo could fix it by doing md5 checks or something.

Some Pokemon game gives you some unremovable label that you're a haxor or something.
