blackhole89 thanks for bringing back the board, I really do appreciate it! I'm sure others will appreciate it as well.

Yes, this seriously means so much to me. Because i did not want the romhacking boards to die off, since they were the most popular of any other known "acmlm board" type of site out there.

I just hope this 3 month delay hasnt scared away too many people.

The uploader page is the only single one right now not working.
"cant connect to mysql server" - i hope that'll be fixed too.

Glad this is back! Someone should make a backup/mirror.

Expect it to go down again, though. I had them reboot the server for now so I could check the logs to figure out what went wrong (and pull a more recent backup), but whatever underlying problem made it crash appears to have left no traces. I'm still suspecting some issue with the mainboard or power supply.

(Cleaning up the database post-crash did reveal that someone found a (presumably unrelated) exploit in the board code all the way back in 2018, in a piece of code I hadn't audited enough. Who knows what consequences this will have down the line.)

It's kinda funny. I just mentioned Board2 somewhere cuz it was relevant to the topic and said "RIP Board2". Then someone asked wait did it die? and then I for some reason started typing in the domain, hit enter and... I couldn't believe it. It lives!

True, I wasn't very active... well I wasn't active at all but I did visit as a guest sometimes. It was a huge loss when everything went silent.

How are they supposed to figure out? I assume it's not like the case is actually on fire or the broken component turned red or something. If/when it goes down again, I will contact them, but even then, there's only a chance they'll find out something if there was actually a kernel panic with observable output or whatever. What can some site techs in a datacenter do when faced with a server that's simply off, with no useful information logged?

Well I'm really glad to see it back up for now and for different reasons than I'd wondered.
Like I thought who knows, with all the virus narrative being used to practice authoritarianism around the world and the timing board2 went down, maybe that affected it somehow.
But glad it ain't that.

Even though this board doesn't get a ton of activity, I feel like it has a pretty unique good purpose. It's nice having a more quiet cozy corner to show hack progress and such, before ready to go out to somewhere like RomHacking.

It's always said "cant connect to mysql sever" ever since acmlm board was brought back up.

I'd need to take some time to audit the code and serverside setup. A lot of the exploits we had were achieved through interactions between the uploader and the old Acmlmboard forks running on the server (in the vein of getting archive3 to include an uploader file with PHP code). Besides, it seemed like the uploader was getting very little legitimate use anyway...

I think it was me who found that exploit. Not really so sure, but I'm sorry if any actual damage was caused by it... (would be nice to have a return of the uploader though once you get back from those busy few weeks)

But what would a board2 time machine look like if constructed in real life?
