This is the last video for a little while. I have to do a lot of graphics work, and ASM hacks. However, Dark Mario is now 1/4 done. Worlds 1 and 2 completed, 2 levels in World 3 are done, and 1 level in World 7.

World 3: Wire-Sponge Stage.

And yes, I took out the hill graphics. I will be drawing new ones soon.

Making the player have to sit around a wait for a P-switch to end generally isn't a good idea level design wise.

I'd have to agree with that. Especially since if they don't figure it out the first time they'll have to start over, which means either waiting for the timer to run out or using some kind of level escape feature (which I'm not sure if you've implemented). Games that have puzzles usually have a "reset" feature. See Lufia II for an example.

Okay, here's some screens of my SMB3 hack "Toad's Trauma Show"...

I'll have a video up soon, now to edit the airship level... ^^'

Believe it or not, but I agree with you guys about the P-Switch thing. The reason why it's like that, is because if I didn't put the second set of blocks there, the munchers would still be coins, and you could simply collect them. That's why I did that. But I will be changing this soon. I will figure out something... I was even thinking of giving this level it's own special graphics, but I don't know if I want to do that or not... I'm still undecided on it. I really want it to look more like the Wire-Sponge stage, but I'm going to wait on it.

I was looking at the green background you used for bushes, would it be possible to make those animated water too? I see animated water for some reason. ^^'

The green background is going to grass, but yes, I can make it animated water if I want.

Everything works at least enough to start designing levels.
Here's what's new:
GFX obviously
Walking off the side of the screen takes you to a new room
Walking through a door takes you to a new section of the castle
Killing the boss doesn't end the level anymore

I unfortunately have no sceenshots or video to show (yet) but I've started my next SMB3 project off with a mapper hack to use MMC5. I will use this as a basis when creating my editor (and of course, as a patch for specializing your ROM in my editor).

The big thing I'm going to show is the new power up. "Cannon" (temporarily named) Mario. Here's how he works: As long as you are mid-air and moving atleast a certain speed, if you press the B button, you turn into a "ball" for a split second. In this mode, if you land on an enemy, you will kill it. And, the fun part, if you hit a wall while in a ball, you will bounce off the wall in the opposite direction that you hit it. If you hit the ground, you will bounce up (not very high now). Finally, if you hit a wall at a downward angle, you will bounce away from it and upward a bit. This can be used to create wall-jumping situations (the video I have demonstrates this).

No, this will not be something I will include in my editor, I have to save the good stuff for my own hack

Hah, sounds like fun.

I'd suggest "Ball Mario" but HAL already did that with Ball Kirby.

Just letting you guys know, Dark Mario will now include my favorite levels from SMB2, including a new gameplay feature, taken right from SMB2, the Power Jump!

World 3: SMB2 Level 1

This is a video showing the first level of SMB2, in it's early form, plus the new ASM hack I implemented, which allows you to do a power jump.

I think it would be better if it was a flashing animation instead of him just turning white.

Hmm. I like that idea, but it may require more work than necessary. It took a huge amount of code just to get this thing to work.

This looks like fun. This also looks like people who have a keyboard might enjoy it a little easier than the walljumping in Metroid games. Are you planning on changing his graphics a little bit? Also, do you have anything planned for a projectile powerup?
