Googie: I appreciate the effort you put in to the title screen. Your support and enthusiasm is great. What I was thinking about doing for the title screen, is having the Terran Empire logo in there somewhere:

The crows look good too, but I might be trying to lose the "Mario feel" the game has to it, and make the game more serious.

Well, you can take out the crows to put in that sword idea. Those crows are from a Disney game, can't remember which one though.

Googie: Nice work on that title screen...

SMU looks pretty nice.

Well, slightly biased too because it's really been awhile since the last SMB hack. xD I couldn't even tell right away it was a SMB hack, and thought it was SMB3 hack until I noticed that it had the status bar from SMB.

I saw them too, just didn't say anything ^^;;

I've always liked seeing your progress, frantik. This is one of those Super Mario Bros. hacks I look out after, simply because it's unique in one way or another. Literally, in the aspects that all of your screens seem to show "flowing" levels, rather than being comprised of preset tile arrangements. Makes it feel more like a later side-scroller than the old Mario.

Same here. When frantik and Panophobia posted their stuff, I wanted to comment, but I had a lot of typing to do in regards to my own hack.

But I wanted to comment. frantik and Panophobia, I like what I see. Very nice work, and very inspiring. Keep up the good work guys!

EDIT - Here is another preview of Dark Mario. It shows you some of the things I changed. Enjoy!

EDIT - I fixed the glitches!

I haven't been around for a while, but I recently started working on my hack again!

I do have a topic about this deep the Rom Hacking Forum, but I didn't want to revive it.

These aren't just random screens, I wanted to get some input on these specific areas.

Rockman, you usually avoid showing off glitches. xD Swimming in the rain is kind of hilarious thou.

It's impressing so far.

haha I know. XD I fixed it though. I added some code which compares the tile sets and sets the appropriate one. I could use a little help with one thing: When adding one 16-K PRG-ROM bank to the ROM, you can't just put it anywhere, or the game won't run. Does the total number of PRG-ROM banks have to be an even number? Also, where can I put it to make the game run?

Ice Penguin: I like it. Zelda II is a cool game.

Ice Penguin: Would there be any way for you to add a couple more leaf tiles to the trees in the 9th screenshot. I'm fine with all the other textures, but it's just plain weird for there to be a blanket of upside-down grass covering the top of the forest.

I never thought about that.

If I were to add more leaf tiles, how would I implement them? These leaves are actually unchanged from the original game.

You could always try to make the orginal leaf tiles less blocky looking. They do look kind of tile-like close up...

I ended up changing it a lot.

Does the ground make it look darker? I've been looking at it too long.

I like the new leaves better. And yes, the ground does make it look darker... even a little bit gloomy.

If it's going to have a darker tone, be sure to change the enemies--they're a tad bright in that screen cap :/

It's good to see some new Zelda stuff around here, Ice Penguin. I like North Castle and the palace entrance...

RT-55J, about the leafage, the difficulty comes from the way the objects are layed out in Zelda II. Unless you can perform heavy ASM hacking, objects of this type are made of one tile, repeated height-1 and another one for the bottom edge. You can't define every single tile's location individually. A workaround would be to convert some ground tiles to different leaf tiles and position the corresponding object accordingly...

And I agree with Ailure for the blockiness of the leaves, and some ground tiles are also blocky...

I don't think I will be able to make the orange enemies darker, because they share the same palette as items, and a few other things, too. So it kinda messes things up when I change it.

I could always give orange enemies the "red" palette. But I don't want to have just red and blue monsters!

Maybe just choose a darker outline color for them?
