My main suggestion... give the koopas and piranha plants black outlines. : /

yeah if i could give them black outlines easily i would :\ in SMB3 koopas are made up of two parts with different palettes so that the faces can be yellow and black while the shells are green black and white. I don't want to make all of the red and green enemies lose their yellow color just to get black outlines. the koopas look a bit weird but at least the outlines are contrasting colors

Editing where the pipes send you is easy with smbutil

There is a slight tweak to the pipe code though to make mario come up out of a pipe after going down a pipe.. normally when you go down a pipe the gama just dumps you in the level without entering via a pipe (ie in the original when you go down a pipe you find yourself falling from the top of the screen in the underground levels) but i tweaked it so you come out of a pipe if you go down a pipe

Amazing powerup.

The only thing in this video that gets me is the floating flag at the end.
You might want to think about replacing it with something else. (Star, X, check mark, heart, M, something)

I'd suggest having the vertical wood parts sort of connect to the horizontal ones a little better. I don't know how to describe it better, but I doesn't look like it's standing on it as well as it should. Other than that, I think it looks great. The levels have a nice distinct feeling to them.

hmm yeah i didnt really think it looked bad but i tried out your advice and it's an improvement so thanks I just took part of another type of block I had been trying plus this also saves me 2 tiles so thats cool

You need another background layer to stick between (and below?) the mountains and the foreground. That large amount of black space where you see them looks too empty.

Minish cap had some interesting graphics you might possibly have a use for.

I'd personally place the mountains much lower, and work on adding more substance to the sky instead.
