Hello

I've been working on this SMB hack for a rediculously long time now.. I made a simple graphics and level hack in 2004 called Super Mario 5000.. after that I started learning assembly and started on a more ambitious new hack "Super Mario Forever" .. well I cursed myself by naming it after Duke Nukem Forever cause I got stuck in development lol.. recently I started working on it again and I'm hoping for a 2008 release. Unfortunately I have to figure out a new name for it since now there's that somewhat popular hack already called SMForever and i think there's a Mario World hack named that too

Features:
Almost all graphics replaced
Themed worlds with all new levels
Infinite lives
100 coins = invincibility (starman)
Two new power ups: Stopwatch and "immunity idol". Stopwatch feezes enemies like in SMB2, the idol prevents you from being harmed for a short while
Ability to super jump when stomping enemies

anyways enjoy some screens

Actually, are you restricted to only having the same tiles available and altering Sonic's palette, or are you doing it for simplicity's sake? If the latter, then you'll want to make the stomach and arms black with a white tuft on the chest, reverse his second and third spikes, change his shoes, and make it mostly black with red highlights. If the former, than you mine as well leave Shadow out. =P

What the problem is is that there are 4 players that use the same tiles and behavior for player 1 and player 2. All the others I can make unique for player 1 and 2 (Tiles and Behavior).
I chose from all the characters Sonic and Shadow, because they behave alike the most and are very similar. I did this mainly because I wanted Mario and Luigi to play completely different.


Can you think of any 2 popular characters that would use a simple palette swap??

If not you can just call this guy Red Sonic.

EDIT:

Okay maybe I will make Sonic as unique character, and have Player 2 be the real Shadow (or maybe someone with totally different behavior like Knuckles or...... ???? who from Sonic ????)

Then for the shared tile slot I'll use Yoshi I think, multi colored Yoshi's are fun!!

There is a difference though, Shadow isn't a direct recolor of Sonic per se... In the games he uses Super Sonic's head model but a different body model.

Unlike Peach and Daisy, these two-somes are nothing alike. For one, Kirby is an actual form, while Pac-Man is a circle with a triangle part of the time. They wouldn't work. And then for Fire Emblems, Roy looks NOTHING like Marth does in the series. Hell, Marth doesn't even have pants! here's hoping the DS remake doesn't give him pants

I've seen a lot of cool hacks going on. I started something today, by trying to do something new. I don't know if I can really go anywhere with this, or if I'm going to, but this was inspired by the person who made that Sub-Zero Mythologies hack out of SMB.

I call this Mario Kombat. I can do some ASM coding, in which if both guys get hit a certain amount of times, one of them dies obviously. But I'm wondering if there is anywhere I can go with this. Just something fun to try and see if I can do anything with it.

I could make Level 1 "Round 1", and Level 2 "Round 2", and you get a powerup, and you can use that powerup (fire flower for example) to do a fatality.

I think Peach and Daisy is a great idea, I'll use that thank you.

I see what you're saying about Kirby and Pac-man (from Pac-Land right?), I thought about using them but in the end it would be a waist of a slot. I wish the sprites for Kirby we're bigger, just looks too small compared to the others.
Also Roy and Marth have small sprites as well in Fire Emblem.

PS: Green Hill Zone is on my list with a spinning bonus level Ring and everything.

ooooo... neat!

I didn't know about these sprites. I am certainly going to use Marth as a unique character now, especially since he was my favorite Smash Bros Character.

Edit: after looking at these sprites again, it may be very difficult using them since the detail depends so much on the black background. I will try.

You could just swap the light blue for white (or vice versa) and use the final opaque color for the outline.

Rockman: I can see a full hack coming out of your idea, you can even make certain enemies throw other enemies. Also, what ever graphics you're not going to use you can even upgrade the graphics, maybe add some of those Mortal Kombat arenas like in those pirate games. xD

frantik: Here's a title you might like to use for your hack, how about "Super Mario Evermore" or "Frantik Mario"?

Thanks for the suggestions I made a big list and Frantik's Super Mario was already on it hehe

But just the other day I decided for the time being at least that I like 'Super Mario Unlimited' so nobody steal it dammit

Plus I finally did the ASM for the super jump after a stomp.. it's pretty awesome it's just like in SMB3 how you can control the height of the jump and everything This was one thing I needed to do before I could finish designing the levels because now I can make areas which depend on super stomping jumps. The ASM part of the hacking is almost done but the levels i'd say are <25% complete.. level design is more time consuming than asm hacking now that the full SMB disassembly with comments is available
