A sequel to Impossible World 1, an April Fool's hack. I plan to make Impossible World 2, very... well, impossible. I am trying to make it so every level focuses around a certain theme that recurs throughout the level, and uses similar objects and situations. This one, for instance, has a lot of Football Chucks, tricky cement block jumps with one square wide entrances for the footballs/Mario to go through, and shells that will need to hit turnblocks to go through.

Yeah, it's nothing fancy. Yeah, it looks bad. But it's fun to see what kind of levels I can come up with while using just a few objects/sprites and a recurring theme. My levels before this felt like just a bunch of random shit thrown together. With this I feel like I have at least a little structure to work with.

I have an end goal in mind but I don't really want to say what it is since if I do it probably won't happen. Long post for such a lame screenshot, haha.

Well, after thinking about it and getting some motivation back, I have decided to restart SMB: The Castle 2 using the hack I've been working on. Here are a couple of current screen shots.

Return of hatless Mario! And also added some dimension to the world.

After not having motivation to ROM Hack for a while, my motivation is coming back slowly but surely. This hack was given to me by Rockman if I ever wanted to finish it, his old title to this hack was called "Mario Journey" but I'm renaming it to "Super Loco Spoof! 2". Rockman did some AsM hacks like infinite lives, get 99 coins and you recive the Star power, when you're big and bounce on a note block you can flip without having the star, small SMB jumping sound when you jump.

So far I added straight fireball shooting, it does the same with the Hammer Bros. suit. (DahrkDaiz made the AsM code years ago) This hack will be 3 worlds long with 7 levels in each world. Here's a sneak peek of Super Loco Spoof! 2...

I should be starting on some more levels in the today since I have the weekend free, if someone has some free time to make some graphics for me, please lemme know since this'll be a short hack...

Well, here what I've been working in my spare time:

Right now it can only edit the scenes. You move in the level with the arrow keys of the keyboard and modify the scene with the mouse or the keyboard. Here's a detail of the controls:

Left arrow key: Move one scene left.
Right arrow key: Move one scene right.
Up arrow key: Move one scene up.
Down arrow key: Move one scene down.

Ctrl+Left arrow key: Move 4 scenes left.
Ctrl+Right arrow key: Move 4 scenes right.
Ctrl+Up arrow key: Move 4 scenes up.
Ctrl+Down arrow key: Move 4 scenes down.

Home: Move to the first scene in the current row.
End: Move to the last scene in the current row.
Page up: Move to the first scene in the current column.
Page up: Move to the last scene in the current column.

Spacebar: Change the cell to the next scene in order.
Backspace: Change the cell to the previous scene in order.

Ctrl+Spacebar: Change the cell to the scene 4 places forward of the current scene in order.
Ctrl+Backspace: Change the cell to the scene 4 places back of the current scene in order.
Shift+Spacebar: Change the cell to the last scene of the tileset.
Shift+Backspace: Change the cell to the first scene of the tileset.

Left click: The same as spacebar.
Right click: The same as backspace.
Ctrl+Left click: The same as Ctrl+spacebar.
Ctrl+Right click: The same as Ctrl+backspace.
Shift+Left click: The same as Shift+spacebar.
Shift+Right click: The same as Shift+backspace.

I have to implement the code for object modification (enemies, fruits, rocks and such). There's still plenty to do, like showing the right palette of the level, for example, there are caves in which the rocks are blue, brown or green, but now i'm showing the scenes with the same palette (the ones stored in the images), but it shouldn't be hard to modify the png PLTE header and the CRC to change the palette to look like the level originally.

Oh, and I almost forgot, I'm making this with java, and specifically building it to be compatible with java 1.1, so it can run in almost all OS'es, like linux, Mac OSX, BeOS, and even windows without j2se installed (just the default one that comes with it, which is 1.1.8 i think), etc.

I hope you like it. Any comments and doubts are well received! !

Ok this is a game I might actually work on until completion. It is going to be a smash brothers type game, and will include characters from all different games and systems.

Namely:
Donkey Kong, Mario, Bowser, Kuros (from wizards and warriors), Link, Orphius from Battle of Olympus, Samus, Kid Icarus, Mega-man, WonderBoy, Master Higgins, and Jajamaru.

Most of them I've figured out how to duplicate, some I may not be able to get on here. I'm using the game Little Magic to build it, but it will only include fighting and not the strategy portion.

I will take suggestions on who should be in it, in case I've missed some obvious characters.

For battle of Olympus, the hero's name is Orphius. His girlfriend is Helena (which is funny, considering the word greeks name themselves is 'Hellenika')

Some of these graphics/level sets look like they need to be fully fledged levels. Fat chance of that with this type of game though, right?

Both are, coincidentally, figures from Greek mythology. Orpheus was, according to it, a singer/musician who lost his significant other to a snake bite and subsequently descended into the underworld to retrieve her (and failed), while Helen (called Helena in some languages, including German) was pretty much the female over the possession of whose hand the Trojan War broke off.

In Battle of Olympus Helena was bitten by an Asp and turned to stone (but ultimately shes saved). Hades is basically a jerk (he'd make a killer boss for this game, incidentally).

Ugh... it took me MONTHS to beat battle of olympus! If it's not those god forsaken bats throwing you into every hole in Tartaros, is the sword bearing jerks that won't leave you alone. Or those floating eye things that blink you to death (watch me blinkity blinkity pick up your car keys! hee hee! maybe I'll hide them in some tree... only please don't smack it. Damn Helenes...)

Get some simon belmont in there and this game will be totally win.

I thought of a way to have all of Simon Belmonts animations in there, but I still need to figure out how to move the weapon "damage" blocks around, so I can have some weapons do damage from further away. (Such as Simon's whip... or Bionic Comando's arm)

And it may be a trade up to have either Kuros or Simon. I'll try to do both.

master higgins, if that ever gets released, I'll have to look into putting the hero into some city rather than prehistoric islands ^^

(that is an Adventure Island game, right ._.;

Looks good Googie, as always ;]

I was looking into that game a few days ago, actually, and was trying to make some Yoshi Island graphics and levels. But none of the NES Marios really had the right kinda tiles for me to make proper levels I was first trying to make some sub-cavern/ice level but I couldn't get all that far.
