You're right... there is some sick limit on layer 3. But there's a way around it if you're willing to be a little tricky.
I'm using HDMA to update that green color every scanline which produces the gradient effect. This is just the beginning . ____________________ Zelda Hacking Forum hobbies: delectatio morosa |

Posted by dirtbagPutting them into the game, but they're not hard to do in Paint, you just need a sense of how the character would turn on each angle/rotaion/whatever.Posted by SparksPosted by dirtbagActually, I do it time to time, and other Mario Kart like game ideas, I got a completed sheet, but I'm not good enough cause I'm a newbie. I can show ya some of my old ideas that never got anywhere if you like. ____________________ |

Posted by setz Freaking awesome Is that all custom? because it's very well done =D why can't other people try that hard on games this day and time? if it doesn't have 16 million colors, it's not good enough in todays standards =( ____________________ Why are you reading this? My post is up there^ |

Oooohh... Very nice. The tileset is very well done. Definitely has that Kid Icarus style, too, what with blocks being fairly distinguished from one another. Very interesting, and really visually appealing. Keep up the great work. |

Those hermit crabs look Puggsy-inspired to me, but I may just be imagining that... Still definitely unique for a Castlevania area, and looks nice to boot, though. |

Posted by MathOnNapkinsNICE!!! What are the limitations of this? I'm really unfamiliar with what can be done with HDMA. ____________________ Deviant Art Profile |

HDMA's are timed DMA transfers that go off on certain scanlines for selected channels (8 of them). Usually for special affects like changing the scroll values in the middle of the frame to get split screen, or in this case it's changing a palette byte to a gradually darker green over successive scanlines to get that gradient affect.
I guess you might be limited in avaliable channels for a certain game. I'm working with mode 7 racers which require 4 just for the track. SMK has only one HDMA channel that isn't used. |

Posted by Celice Hee hee, I like how this is coming along too. Like NetSplit said, it definitely has that Kid Icarus style. I hope to see more soon also. ____________________ My Linktree |

Posted by smkdan Right now I only have 1 "free" channel, which is channel 5. LTTP only uses channels 6 and 7 at any given point for HDMA, and I'm leaving those alone. My main problem is that it uses channels 0-4 for DMA. My goal is to rework the code of the game so that all DMA only uses channel 0. DMA channels can't execute in parallel anyway, so I don't see the point in wasting channels on DMA. Perhaps you could try a similar approach? I mean, I'm sure you know DMA and HDMA channels are the same channels. ____________________ Zelda Hacking Forum hobbies: delectatio morosa |

Still plowing along here. Cookie goes to the first person who finds the real red coin in the second shot first. (The red coin used to be the Yoshi Coin.) ____________________ |

I'm about ready to finish up world 4 after a real long time of being stuck. I've got to can one level I have because when I made it, I made it as a world 1 level but now it's a world 4 and I can just do a simple "add enemies and tough jumps to increase difficulty" trick.
Overworld is just about done too, all I need is a set of graphics for it then I'm done there for now. I may have to go change a submap though. The layout is bothering me. ____________________ |

Real red coin is the one on the rightmost cloud, right beneath the score. Whilst it does look like that Kawa... I think you are wrong it's the one under the time that is misaligned. |
