I have thought about going that route, but I want my hack to be more different than your run-of-the-mill hack. I want my worlds to have different number of screens and different music to give you a little more of the "new" feel to it. I don't want them to feel like they're playing a hack, but playing a whole new game.

What would you think if you started a SMB3 hack and the worlds were all in a different order? Wouldn't that throw you for a loop?

I find it to be intriguing at the very least. I know there's some sort of code to change what world you start on at the beginning of the game, I just have to change how the game reports it. Or, I could just remove the redundancy all together since you really don't need to be reminded what world you are on. You should already know how many worlds you've beaten.

I am also looking for a way to add the 8 frame animation to my hack; I'm not good enough at ASM to figure it out on my own, so I'm going to need some help with that.

I'm making some serious headway here with this title screen. Figured out everything about it. This is a work in progress... I know it looks a little plain. I plan on making much more for this title screen.

Now what would be a new hack without a title screen? I've made a quick one, which I might change of course, but now I've got a name.. Thanks in part for MathOnNapkins for one of his replies..

Now you might be pondering why it's Link, not Zelda, well probably because you won't be playing Link this time, rather someone else which I'll figure out, but I'm pretty sure Link could replace Zelda in a way...

Holy shit! Now if that ain't thinkin' outside the box I don't know what is! Superb!

Looking pretty nice so far. The background color is a bit of a turn off, but the logo is nicely done.

Question. I'm going to sound like a total newbie right now, but I have to ask. How do you take things that you make in paint or photoshop, and put them in the ROM? Every time I draw something in paint or photoshop, and copy and paste them into YY-Char, it comes out screwed up.

For example, go into paint, and use the color black, and type some text. Let's say, "Test" for example. If you copy and paste that into YY-Char, it doesn't look right. And I think the reason for that is, is that it doesn't match the NES palette.

Yet, I've seen people make awesome title screens. So what's the deal?

Palettes are the deal, mostly. Have you tried using the exact colors from YY-CHR in Paint? Such experiments may help you figure it out.

I always use this as my default palette when I copy and paste anything from photoshop/paint into YY-CHR. It seems to work really well for some reason.

If those colors are in YY-CHR by default, in that order, my point is made.

In other news, I felt inspired and made these mockups:

Checking the "Color optimize at paste" box seems to help when copying from Paint to YY-CHR. It screws stuff up when copying within the editor, though.

It took 3 days to figure out how to edit Wily's Skull Castle in Mega Man IV. Mega Man IV Skull Castle editing is much different than Mega Man II. It's somewhere in $64010-$6600F.

For me, I have to put the TSA blocks in the right place in a 32 Byte Screen hex editor with the TSA editor opened.

That's all the updates for now. I'm laiding this one a rest for the next 2 weeks.

Well I've slowly been getting back into the swing of things. The first 4 images are of the beginning of 5-1, and the other 9 screenshots are of 5-7 so far. I still need to edit the 5-7 Bonus Area which is where the bottom pipe will lead in the purple area. I'm thinking that I'll probably edit some of the palettes later on, so like with anything you see from me, nothing is ever finalized for sure.

I like your purple area there. It gives me a sort of "mysterious" feeling. Kind of like I stumbled upon an area of the game not designed to be accessible. Like the Twilight Zone, ya know? Awesome.

As for your other areas, I like the darker blue background for 5-1. As for 5-7, I kind of think you should use something else instead of a bunch of bricks in the cloudy area since it's been done in the original. If you still want to use the bricks, you should at least arrange the bricks in a fashion that doesn't resemble the original level. Other than that, looks great QC! Keep them comin'!

As Some may know already I have started on SNB2. Some may have also seen the new 1-1. Now here is an Updated 1-1 and 1-2.

This is my title screen again, with a slight palette change and a new floor. Palettes for the floor need to be worked out still, though. It's still a work in progress and will most likely look a little grittier than this.

Thanks KP. It's the feeling that I got too. I actually made that purple area out of the remaining bytes that I didn't use for the original 5-7 area, so I made it directly in the FCEUXD hex editor.

The darker blue background was what Googie came up with for the main Plains palette, so credit for that goes to him. I still haven't done any palette changes myself, so that's why I mentioned that I'd probably do that after I finish editing the remaining levels.

That group of bricks is only at the beginning though; I thought the level was different enough from the original 5-7 to keep it. The screenshots don't really show the whole thing. Thanks for pointing your thought out though as I appreciate it; I wouldn't want to have a level look like the original. Since I built it from scratch though like I do with any level, I know that it's different. If you noticed though, my level does something different with the bricks that the original SMB3 didn't do - and I don't know why not - and that's that I put wooden blocks along the bottom so that should they be broken, you won't see cut off cloud graphics like in the original 5-7.

Thanks again for the great support and comments, KP! I really appreciate them! My motivation is currently at a high compared to the last however many weeks, so I'm going to get right back to work right now so that I can try to get some more done!
