Here's a hack I was dying to work on, if the title screen ain't a pain in the ass I wanna call this hack "Capcom vs. Namco"...

There's still alotta sprites left I needa check out... ^^,

This is too funny, since Code Name: Viper and Rolling Thunder are basically the same game. How much more you got left to go?

Heehee! Yeah that game kicks major ass lol! I gotta play through the game to see what other agent sprites I gotta edit, but the palette changes are done. I was thinking of giving the title Code Name Viper: Beginnings if it'll fit in the title screen.

frantik: How much more you gotta finish on your smb1 hack? It looks really cool

i need to make like 5-10 levels and do some final asm stuff. I got a powerpak recently and the game looks so awesome on a TV so it's kinda motivating me to finish this thing

I want to see it finished.

Even though I lost motivation to hacking SMB1 now because of my interest in other projects.

Keep it up, and it will become a super hack!

BTW: Good luck on making the last 5-10 levels.

Real time maps now work, along with character selection. There are going to be two map screens. A real time map, which shows the area of the castle that you are in, and uncovers as you enter a new screen, and then a full castle map. We haven't figured out how to handle that one yet, if it will just always show the entire castle, or if you have to get a map item to see part of it or what. It all depends on what the NES can handle. Each map screen will also have a selection menu. The real time map will have character selection, while the castle map will have your inventory. So on with some screenies of the real time map.

This is how the map will naturally appear when you're in a new area. The little red dot is your current position.

This is after you get the map item. The dark areas are parts of the map you haven't been to yet. The room with the dot is for "special" room types. Those would include things like shortcut rooms, special item rooms, and probably the merchant.

The other thing we finally got working is vertical scrolling areas. Before now those rooms could only scroll in one direction at a time, and even after we got it to scroll both ways, sprites and background data got all messed up, but now that doesn't happen any more. One plan we currently have is to also make rooms exitable from the top and bottom of the screen, so if there's a pit, it won't kill you, you'll just appear in the room below you.

Ah that's pretty cool Dr hell.
I would of tried to do that for my Map System on my megaman 3 hack about making the squares as wide/tall as the current scolling position your at in a level, like a hallway being 4 screens for example, and the map system displaying a 4-tile wide square, and so on, but that would of been waaaay too difficult for me to know how to do.

And because the mm games do not have 8-way scrolling like Mario3, kirby adventure and others, it's pretty pointless to even do.
Mine are just all seperated into a individual 8x8 squares as so:

@Kuja Killer: Speaking of maps, do they include any hidden items like on Mega Man X3.

Well im not sure yet. I can, but i dont know when I will if i do. And i surely would not want the special items to be shown by default already, but rather at some point later in the game, or like maybe having to find an extra little upgrade somewhere in a level to be able to show the locations of stuff. We'll see. For now, not yet.

I'm liking all the recent stuff here. Awesome job, guys.

I haven't really been motivated to do much lately due to unfortunate things that have been happening. Not really anything new, but here's a quick screenshot and video for Luigi's Chronicles 2, the SMB3 hack that Googie and I are working on.

See you all later...

Wow, another person modifying the Mega Man 4 series. I want to see it finished sometime.

Good luck!

I'm already started mine except short term ASM projects only.

I finally decided to work with my one of my own apps, Arkalavista, Arkanoid editor. I began working on a hack of Arkanoid involving different objects from the Nintendo world. The difficulty comes from the fact that the field is only 11 bricks wide, so it's kind of limiting. I'm not sure if it will have new graphics, but there will be plenty of palette changes, and probably 2-3 ASM hacks on top of it...

Examples of levels:

Magical Boomerang from Zelda...

Fireball from Mario...

Thanks guys. I'm glad you like what you see. I've been working a lot at my job lately, so whenever I have time off I try to work on it, but it is tough. But this will be a complete hack, from new music to new weapons, bosses, and gameplay features, and a good story.

Heh, remind me to hack SMB3 one of those days. That game really needs more love amongst ROM hackers.

The level looks challenging without being frustrating, so I'm looking forward to try it out!

I'll remember to, buddy.

I agree. It seems like more people are slowly starting to hack SMB3. I've been helping a few SMB3 hackers get started, so in my opinion there is still a considerable amount of love for SMB3 hacking. Of course, I'm sure we also agree that a few beginning ROM hackers who choose to try SMW first could probably consider SMB3 instead. Since ROM hacking is supposedly to be a fun and enjoyable hobby though, if they choose SMW over SMB3, I suppose they figure that it'll be more fun to hack that game instead. But boy, the size of that ROM...

Thanks for the compliment as well, Ailure. I really appreciate the positive feedback and interest. It helps to keep me motivated.

In case you're interested, I just sent Googie an updated version of Luigi's Chronicles 2 with Worlds 2, 4, 6 and 8 edited, minus the World 8 Dungeon which kept giving me problems. I wasted my whole Saturday trying to make it work, but whatever I came up with, Luigi would always fall through the solid floor whenever he entered a door. I took note that it seemed to occur whenever he would appear in front of the special door activated by the P-Switch, so I replaced them with regular doors only to end up with the same result. I tried using regular wooden block 3-byte objects instead of the X-Block 4-byte objects and Luigi still fell through those as well. All of that crap pretty much killed my motivation right there, yet Googie and I still have Worlds 3, 5 and 7 left to edit. So it's reassuring to hear that there are people who are looking forward to this project.

I'm hoping that Googie and I can finish it off as soon as possible so that you won't have to wait long!

And since this is the Screenshot Thread...
