Dumbot is pretty dumb.

Its sole purpose for existance, is to not go into gray.

So it avoids this, and in doing so, serves a few silly purposes.

Its use as a pathfinder is rather limited, as it has no "goal" or sense of "finishing". It just keeps going until it runs over the master-imposed move limit (or really locks itself into an unrecoverable position, but this is impossible)

But you can have fun with it.. fire it into a random design and see how it reacts! Although it's more fun with a more decorated map:

These are just a few of the silly (but ultimately, useless) uses for this thing. If you're interested, feel free to create a map for it (512x512, like this) and send it over.

By request (Drag's ) I made a dumb anigif of it, as it progressed:

Good, now write it so it looks 3 or 4 moves ahead and picks the optimal solution to minimize speed loss through turning. It shouldn't be that hard really, and would make it into a fairly flexible gaming algorithm.

That kills the fun I can always just make it check much farther ahead than it actually moves, though. (Although that would cause problems with thin lines...)

Not really; you'd have to check every point between where it is and where it's going though. I think they call that vector movement or somesuch, I forget the actual name.

Regardless, it'd require some major rewriting of the code

Personally, I would at least write the code so the routes plotted avoid the gray by a certain distance (say 10 or so net pixels, or configurable like the amount of variance each selection could be). Which would considerably bloat the amount of time each path selection would take, but also would make it a more versatile opponent if this were to ever develop into more than an interesting diversion.

Just my two cents.

That's pretty neat and could have some uses in robotics and video games.

Fun! (but utterly pointless)

Has nothing to do with Mario Kart AI but is fun to watch

Pointless, maybe. But the best stuff usually is, right? Like video games. There's no true reason on why we play them, but we do it anyways, because it entertains us. They're fun.

I'm guessing the DumBot is a private program?

In lolzlshop. I tried to reduce it down to a two color palette, but I couldn't figure it out.
The most I could do was use the pencil tool to apply the brush to avoid blending.

What indeed.

It might work...
I meant for the thin line to be the start, counter-clockwise.
