I propose a new suggestion:
BOARD2 WIKI http://acmlm.kafuka.org/wiki This means that we can find all the info we need for ROM hacks and hacking, whcih would be nice. Of course, it might not be fully active but I think it will turn into a great resource for ROM hackers, we could move the Acmlm's documents onto this wiki and improve on them also. ____________________ Jamie Dignam |

That's pretty much what I was thinking. While it's a nice idea, unfortunately, I don't think that there's a need for it, or that it would receive the attention that it would need to be updated and worth the trouble.
The closest thing that already exists to what you're suggesting is Data Crystal. It used to be its own resource before Romhacking.net took it over. As it is, it seems as though even Data Crystal doesn't receive much attention, unfortunately. We could always add information on there, and link and refer to it here on the board. However, their main focus is just on the game pages, primarily. There used to be pages for individual hacks and even users - there are actually still some floating around that they haven't even bothered to delete yet as per their most recent guidelines - but anymore, they can only be listed and referred to on the main page for their respective original games. If you haven't registered at Romhacking.net yet, you might like to. Not that I'm trying to reduce your activity here at Board 2 by dividing it elsewhere, but again, Data Crystal is probably the closest thing that has already been around for many years, and features many pages that can help you get started with new ideas, and/or that can definitely be improved on. Since you currently have the motivation to develop such a wiki, perhaps you can look at one that is already established and is pretty much a close relative to Board 2. |

I have a use for romhacking.net, because I'll be coding an NES emulator, I might need their documentation along with NESdev's.
So it might be of good use to register there! ____________________ Jamie Dignam |

Yes, I would believe so. It's one of the best places to submit your completed projects too, so you would likely be registering there sooner or later if you intend to finish something someday.
You're thinking about coding an NES emulator, though? Are you sure that you want to attempt such a large, in-depth project this early on? Don't get me wrong; it'll be awesome if you can. It's just that you might want to start out with smaller projects, building knowledge and learning skills along the way that you can carry over to your future pursuits. You also want to consider how your project would differ from resources that already exist. What would you attempt to do differently? Do you believe that people would have a use for a new NES emulator? Of course, you could always work on something primarily just to develop your skills, and you might never release it anyway (I know that some people code/program utilities but never actually end up releasing them, either because the utilities don't work out as intended, or they're never actually completed), but I would assume that you've been exploring your options recently with the intentions of eventually releasing whatever you work on. |

Probably so. It's definitely going to be hard times but it's a challenge, and something I can do for once.
I saw this mentioned in nesdev too but I'm still going to try, even without prior coding knowledge in other programs before making this. What I'm aiming for is high accuracy and speed running of all mappers, NSF creator and other utilities built-in (and in English), and other things. However I only plan on emulating the first 7 mappers on v0.1, and expanding it highly after. ____________________ Jamie Dignam |

It doesn't seem like it'd be worth it IMO - there's already tons of hacks, resources, and info on wikis like TCRF and SMWCentral's wiki, not to mention SMWCentral itself.
Like someone else said, the only real use that I can see this having is data on the community history and drama and whatnot, though I would personal still be kind of interested in that |

Posted by K.T.B. We could just put that as a 'Board2 History' page. I suggested a wiki because of all this 'board2 is dead' crap. You can also check my other suggestions in the 'board2 activity suggestions' thread or whatever it's called, if you want to submit anything go on! ____________________ Jamie Dignam |

I've never bothered to look into it, but can't people make their own Wikis for free? You could always start an unofficial Board 2 Wiki, build it to a presentable state, and then see what people think and how they feel about it. If it seems like it'll work, I reckon that you would be able to work with blackhole89 to connect it with the board. |

Yeah, I could do that. However the last time I touched MediaWiki I found it only a massive pain in the arse.
I don't know of any other wikis which aren't so complicated. (And I don't use Wikia because that's just plain laziness) ____________________ Jamie Dignam |
