And when I say "fail", I don't mean losing. I mean quitting after losing.

I usually beat everyone in a race on Wi-Fi (89 wins, 17 losses as of now), and most of them are honest enough to accept the loss. There are, obviously, people who want to preserve their win record, so they quit after losing. What they don't know is that for every opponent that is in the race when you quit, you gain one loss. So if you're in a race with three other people, and you quit because you're an asshole a poor sport, you gain three losses. I found this out recently (not by quitting myself), yet people still don't get the idea. Even if their final rank is 2nd place (in a four-man race), they still quit, despite getting two wins and one loss (net gain of one win). This clearly explains why those who have a small win and large loss count quit so much.

And yes, I do use the Rivals option.

You're lucky to even play at all on Wi-Fi. I can't do it at all, due to lack of cash. Dammit.

I'd play you if I could, though. I guess. Would need to make sure that the internet was in good shape for a constant connection, of course.

Is there some McDonald's restaurant near you?

(although it's a bit of a pain to play on Wi-Fi there)

[EDIT] Well, yeah, of course. Especially with the rising gas prices. (was going to make this a new post, but it was a bit off-topic to be a new post)

30 minutes away, which is a waste of gas.

I would, but it's too much of a pain to drive back and forth each time. And I don't have a driver's license. I may be 16, but don't those things cost money too?

Disconnectors is the reason why I don't play wi-fi anymore, no matter what game it is. I rather play with friends over random people because most of your friends won't disconnect.

A license is cheap ($15 for NV) ... it's the insurance, especially at 16, that will kill you.

And also, I thought quitting ave you no record change? Did they actually fix this in MKDS? WOOOOOOOAH

Also, it is important to note that any player disconnecting (or powering down) from an online race immediately receives one loss per opponent, regardless of how well they were doing up until the disconnect (the same thing occurs if a player does not press any button for 30 seconds); conversely, after all four races are complete, each player also receives one win for any opponent who disconnected during the match -- though if the match cannot be completed due to disconnecting, no wins are given to the remaining player.

Yeah, I was surprised too when I read this.

Nice seeing that they fixed that though. I only played Mario kart Wifi once, and only rather quickly. >>

I rarely play it, because it takes like half an hour to find someone to play against (which happens only on worldwide, anything else you can forget about finding anyone at all), and then another half hour to do the same again because it disconnected as soon as the race started.

Play time trials. Go to www.mariokart64.com/mkds and have your e-penis shrunk to a negligable size.

Back when I played MKDS frequently I tended to beat the people I played online. These people were people ranked in the top 20 on that site.

You didn't purposely slow down in a race to get better items... Did you? Just snaking?

But it sort of makes sense, anyway... You could have great Time Trials times, since you can easily restart the trial and perfect it, but, when it comes to pressure from other players, along with items... There may be some massive fail.

That's a huge exaggeration. I can usually get a 2-3 person race in a couple of minutes or less. The quickest it has taken was about 10 to 20 seconds.

As far as I know it only records the losses if you turn off your power. If you lose connection (turn off the router, walk far away, etc.) then it doesn't count your losses. Also if someone else disconnects at the final results screen it actually subtracts from your losses.

Well aren't you lucky. For me it's at least 15 minutes on average, at best 3 to 5.

I've never played against another person on the game, let alone my DS.
Disturbing, isn't it?

First off, sandbagging is a legitimate tactic.

Second off, no. They all were awesome at the game, and my victories did not come easy. And against many of them, I won more than I lost. When I played frequently, one of the people in my playgroup was the world champion. I beat him many times, though he beat me a fair bit more. It's not that they weren't good in versus, it's that so was I. I have won tournaments in MKDS where people competed for prize money. Big ones, too; For instance, I won the one that took place at the penny arcade expo last year.

My point was that my e-penis is not shrunk in any way by MKDS competition.

Oh. ... Well, it makes no difference. I return the favor to those that sandbag, anyway... And they usually disconnect if I beat them.

PAX, huh? I'm assuming this isn't Omegathon. How much money did you win, anyway? And beating the world champion? You must be pretty damn good.

What's ironic is that, despite snaking whenever I can, I actually don't enjoy it. It cramps my thumb, so that isn't fun. I usually choose non-snaking compatible (Rainbow Road, for example. Although I know that you were able to snake throughout 2/3 of it or something) courses.

There is basically no point on Rainbow Road you can't snake. I mean you can't snake over the loops but that's it.

Also to answer the question for what I got for winning the PAX tournament, it wasn't a cash prize, specifically... It was my choice of things, and I picked an Intel dual core processor worth about $500.
