openTTD

My favourite simulation game, and it's free. You need some files from the original game... but that won't be too much of a problem.
Tons of screenshots here
And the UKRS is awesome if you're bored on the orginal trains.

Have they fixed the damn city-growth algorithm yet?

Otherwise, damn good game.

There were a patch that made the city layouts less annoying, but the towns still grows at the same rate. :/

Just buy up land around towns if you're finding it annoying, but remember it's frowned upon on some multiplayer servers if overdone. Also multiplayer is very fun, with my favourite server being Brianetta's standard server.

I won't blame you. I could help people at this game, There's a few videos at youtube, but they seem to mostly show off more advanced gameplay.

I would LIKE to learn but I'm not sure if I'd really play it all too much.

I don't play it all the time, but I tend to dedicate a whole weekend when I started.

I usually show newbies how to use road vehicles, then aircraft and ships if they feel like it. The most advanced part of the game is the trains after all. It's also the most profitable...

Is good if you want to figure out the game on your own. Back in the day I did trial and error to figure out the game, I hardly knew any English back then when I started playing.

I learned by experimentng and watching the tutorials in TTD.

ow I learn other stuff by trialk-and-error. OpenTTD is fgun, no doubt about it, but it's too bad the lastest versions no longer run on win98

OpenTTD is a fun game, real fun in multiplayer.

But it became weird when we played it in multiplayer on an actual train.

The problem I have with TTD (I play the oldsk00l dos version in dosbox) is that I have no idea where to start. I don't know what to actually *do*. It's like "Oh hi, your town is fine as it is, but I'm going to move in and build some bus stations for you even though you didn't ask me to, kthxbai ".

Drag, use openTTD. I can hardly play vanilla TTD now, since i'm used to all thoose features. :s

And for starting, well I tend to do a few coal lines in the beginning then try to make advanced network of them. You need to be able to set up your own goals, unless you're playing competitive with other humans. (which I have done!)

I actually did that myself once.

xD

Didn't play too much though, didn't like the attention I was getting with having a laptop up.

OpenTTD, for me, is the most fun in the last years when you have too much money and only MagLev, and even then just when you have the superfast Maglevs and no set that only allows certain types of cargo (i.e., the default)

I should make my own NewGRF and make all the MagLevs go 5000kmH, just for shits and giggles

I'm running a openTTD server right now. IP is 194.47.44.229

I manually pause and unpause at need, so IM me if it's paused.

The required GRF's are here, just unzip the into the GRF folder.

Reason I don't mirror them is to not piss off the newGRF authors. That guy server is great to play on as well, but I want a spefic server for Acmlm board audiance now.

So I might start a semi-offical openTTD server in about a week.

...I want to finish a exam first. >>; As I always wanted to do 100 years in one run, but don't want to take valuable school-time. XD So inbetween courses works best.

I probably use the newGRF's files from Brianetta's server as base, though I probably will do a few modifications and additions.

A semi-official openTDD server? Sound interesting...

I added openTTD on the AcmlmWiki. And yes, I'm serious about starting a server, especially after seeing Blackhole89 requesting it earlier. xD

Configuration suggestions of any kind? I probably start on the 16th or 17th march, depending on what works best with people.

And here are some of the files, if you need them

Granted, updates will be required on occasion (Ailure fiddles with his damn GRFs too much) but past that, you should be all set.

Well, there's not really much newGRF's I want to fiddle with. Even if switch trainset to North American one, there shouldn't be any trouble as XK's distribution includes it.

OK, I understand how this may be considered "bumping", but I want to know what's going on with this image. It also said something about a .lut file being out of date?
