Yes... that pirate version.
The first level music was really well ported to NES (the Ground Theme) YET is impossible to find on YouTube OR Dailymotion.

Quite good for a pirated SNES downgrade though.

I assume if you look really well online you can find an online soundtrack game rip that's available.

The quality of the port isn't that bad IMO, though the thing bugs out on NEStopia.

How about a link to the ROM?

ROMs (and direct links to ROM images) are not permitted on here. That includes unofficial, pirated/bootleg content, too. --ShaneM

I shoulda said "link to .ips" or something like that, unless that isn't allowed either. Crap!

IPS' are always allowed unless they patch back into the original game. If a patch of SMW was made, a modification to the binary or CHR would be a must. I have the file, but even if I make a change and create a .ips patch, what good would that do if the issue at hand is locating the original file?

PS: There are actually 2 NES versions of this game, the shorter 4 World version and the longer 7 World one. --ShaneM

"patch back to the original game"? What do you mean by that? "No" changes or something along those lines? I apologize if I seem slow. It... tends to happen.

I'm saying what kind of patch would you even be suggesting if your original intent was to locate the NES version of the ROM? If a patch were made with changes, what good would it do if you don't have the ROM image?

And it would be against the rules to make a .ips patch that patches back into the original, unmodified version of this game...

PS: I'm referring to this statement:

Well, a patch that converts the original version of the game into itself (by doing nothing or at least nothing relevant) would be allowed, but that sort of patch would be trivial and fairly useless... the important criterion is the presence of a significant amount of content that some company (in this case, Nintendo) would be able to call copyright violation on in the file that is being linked.

Seriously though, googling for it led me to a ROM download among the first-page links.

Just covering my bases. Usually, I don't like ticking people off, especially if there are mods and I don't wanna get banned or blocked or whatever. So, I kinda figured that, for some bizarre reason, linking to another site would bother y'all. I have no earthly idea where this came from. I guess I shouldn't be changin' my sig anytime soon, huh?

Bump!

The full version is only contained on the JY-120 45-in-1 multicart, or the non-verified ROM dump. Actual cartridges are unfinished and are classed as [b1] on the ROM dump.

Come to think of it, I wonder if there would be any interest in a project that completed the individual ROM dump for the NES port, similar to how some graphic hacks on multi-cart ROMs have been copied over to ROM dumps of the specific, individual game.

There was a hacking project started by macbee a couple years ago to improve the graphics of the NES version, but there haven't been any updates for nearly just as long. It might still be getting worked on here and there, but it probably won't be completed anytime soon.

As I said, it already exists. It has no marks like [ b ] or [o] on it, and the [b1] dump is the cartridge. Although, if you mean an actual cartridge of the full version, I don't think there is.

You could always check macbee's last visit/contribution to anything there, maybe he pulled a disappearance like some people do for no reason.

Edit: fixed [ b ] so it wasn't making the text bold

Well, [b1] would still indicate a bad dump, but I believe you meant [p1], since I did see that one. I guess I never looked at that one, and only ever had the (Unl) version.

Though I was just referring to what you initially said, that the "full version is only contained on the JY-120 45-in-1" multi-cart, as indicated here:

https://tcrf.net/Super_Mario_World_%28NES%29/Standalone_Cart

Either way, I never did play through the whole NES version, so honestly, I wouldn't know for sure one way or the other. The fact that an NES port exists is pretty cool, though.

As for the graphics hack, it seems that macbee was editing the incomplete version. That was also the last update in that topic specifically. He most recently released Tcheco, a game on Steam.
Sometimes, people just take a break from some projects. That could be all it is. Though yes, history has shown that generally, when people don't update a project for a while, it's safe to assume that it's cancelled until further notice.

I was referring to the pack seen in GoodNES: there's a (Unl) version which is the full version, a [b1] which seems to just be the incomplete version and there's a [p1] which I didn't try, but I know that means 'pirate'.

Also, on the subject: what's a 'trained' rom?

Apparently the project that I had in mind has already been accomplished, as referenced in this recent Romhacking.net topic:

http://www.d.umn.edu/~bold0070/projects/smw_hack_extract/

As for what a "trained" ROM is, you can find your answer here on the NESDEV forum:

http://forums.nesdev.com/viewtopic.php?t=3657

Generally speaking, you don't want to have a trainer in your ROM for it to be considered "good".

I found out earlier what one was, when I posted the ROM letter definitions thread

And good to hear the fix has been done! Does it make the physics unbuggered or not? Although, it IS possible to complete SMW with the broken physics anyway.

I knew macbee probably wouldn't finish that SMW NES hack tho. I tried the same thing years before him and changed all the graphics for the first stage. Then I found out every level has it's own graphics set, even if it takes place in the same tileset.
