I don't know why, but I prefer to use headphones instead of speakers on my computer. I guess the sound is better, and my dad is here during the week and he goes to bed REALLY early (like 21:00), so I don't want to wake him up and get him pissed off when I'm playing music or games in the evening. I barely even use my speakers anymore.

I use my headphones past around 20:00, and speakers for the rest of the time.

I also have a really long extension cord for my headphones so I'm not completely tethered to the computer (well, I still am, but I can move around my bedroom at least).

Headphones good. Speakers bad.

I hardly use headphones. When it is around 23:00 I turn off the speakers so the only sound you hear is the sound of a mouse clicking.

Speakers, all the time. Even after everyone's in bed, I still play the music as loud as these speakers go. I just close the door to this room. It's not so loud outside of this room when the door is closed...

I'm in an apartment and like music that's not popular at all around here, plus I'm majorly annoyed when people do play their music really loud, so I don't. But I do set the volume fairly high when I'm using headphones and I'm really into a song...not too high though, I don't want to kill my ears.

Headphones not only sound better, but you hear everything and can differentiate between left and right, which is good for gaming.

I use them all the time.

Headphones do drive me nuts when for some reason there's only one sound channel, like on one...err, "amateur production" DVD I have. Everything is only heard in the left ear.

The only speakers I have are the built-in ones on my laptop.

Needless to say, I use headphones all the time. The quality is 1337x better.

I use headphones to listen to music, speakers when I'm playing a game (some of those sound effects really don't sound good blasting in your ears...)

Same.

But it kinda depends on what my surroundings are...

At home, I mainly use my speakers, except in the infrequent case that I would like to listen to music through headphones.

At college, I live in a dorm. However, I'm certainly NOT living in a dorm next year, so my behavior here could change, but my roommate tends to get "hyper" when I'm listening to music or sound-intensive programs. When I try to listen to music, he tends to start humming/whistling/singing his own songs over it, even though he says he doesn't mind when I listen to music. Thus, when I listen to music, I use headphones a lot more often here. I especially use them when my roommate is being annoying. Not to mention, I have a huge tendancy to listen to the same song repeatedly for a long time, so when I do that, I wear headphones, so he doesn't get annoyed.

However, I'm trying to get a living space where it's 1 person to a bedroom, despite multiple people living in the same place, like an apartment, so maybe I'll fall beck to my speaker ways.

I use headphones when listening to music on my CD player or on my DS. I don't do it that much though.

I use speakers for listening to music on my computer or playing games which I do quite frequently. I even use them in the middle of the night when everyone is sleeping.

Headphones.

Get yourself a good pair and they do really well. It also helps when Skyping and making simfiles for StepMania (as it makes it easier to hear all the sounds).

Also helps when listening to music that others would find... very strange. I think Puriny Squad, Betrayer, and rottel-da-STAR would really make people wonder what was wrong with me...

Headphones... unless the situation calls for speakers. (IE, Padding stepmania)

Headphones give MUCH better listening quality, and that is all the difference

Also: Late night gaming is only possible with headphones

Speakers, usually.

I often have multiple people in my room who want to hear the music so...

Also my family stays up later than I do most of the time so being too loud isn't an issue.

Seriously I stay up until 2:00 playing Starcraft but they stay up until 6:00 playing WoW.

I use speakers unless I'm on skype or something that I don't need anyone in my family hearing. But usually I'm just listening to music, and I use speakers for that.

A little of both for me ... I like headphones, but the wireless one I have (I wanted wireless because my older ones kept breaking after a while, from tripping on the wire or whatever) doesn't sound that great and interferes badly with the wireless phone in the house (annoying noisy tone whenever someone's on the phone) ...

So I use my headphones more often at night when everyone is sleeping, but my room is far enough from the rest that I can leave the speakers on anyway
