Super Demo Bros. 3 v0.2.1 Direct Linked zomg
Obscure Kingdom v0.4 OMG I did it again

Here's some screenies.

Super Demo Bros. 3 v0.2.1:

This little hack is a fully functional 1 world mini hack. It fucks up completely after beating Koopa Kid, but it's pristine up until that point.

Obscure Kingdom v0.4:

This hack took a bit longer to make, and has my first ASM hack implemented in it. I called it "power chips". You get powers when you collect coins; in this version I had Mario get a tiny bit of Star Power and Flight time for each coin he collects. I had written code that allows for different powers depending on what world you're in. World 1 is complete, mostly, (Use save states before each level to be sure) so when youc omplete W1, it should glitch, but will go to the next world. That world is messed up though, so save state before you try levels. One of them is the level I used to test out the Power Chips hack. I remade some levels that were in SMB3 vanilla because with Reuben I had more flexibility with graphics and such. Added some dimension to them.

I hope you enjoy these; I doubt they'll ever get anywhere what with Reuben in limbo and all. Let me know if you have any questions. I'd like to see someone do an LP of them!

Copypasta from Kafuka

Heh, so you decided to pickup your hack and continue working on it ? :/
Looks alright man, I'll test this on my 3ds and record a quick clip at work today
and do a review.

No, they're unfinished. And all they've been doing is sitting on my hard drive, so I thought I'd just release them. I doubt I'd pick these up again. There are a few things wrong with these hacks but that's what you get with unfinished stuff. Use Save States!

Edit for clarification on bugs:
Posted by "KP"
Keep in mind that these are both unfinished. I never bothered to fix any of this before releasing. The hard levels were meant for later parts of the game but put them all in W1 to be accessible.

Yeah, gotta use save states. A lot, I guess. There are a few bugs.

Game over takes you on a tile other than start. Use Save States or Game Genie code for extra lives.

Some pipes (such as the ones in that underground level, bordering the bottom of the level, weren't meant for you to go in. There aren't that many. This is caused by pipes that are enterable but don't have pointers.

As for garbageland: When you enter a tile that doesn't have a pointer attached to it, it just loads the last level data loaded (which is the world map) and the last enemy data used. You'll run into this. I suggest.... more save states.

Trust me, if I had intended to make a full hack out of this, I'd have fixed or worked around these bugs. Releasing these 'as is' is the best I can do.

Hmm, even though I am a new beginner to nes hacking, may i atleast look inside your rom and make some SMALL adjustments ?
One of your hacks title screen is so garbaged badly I was disappointed to see that happen upon bootup.
I know where to get the truck tiles and I'll resemble it if the gfx placment isn't too out of whack.
The map screen itself is really not wanting me to play this again after getting a game over.

I expected better from you though, even if your hack is jacked up too badly.
If its fixable somebody or a small group of people might fix it.

If you opensource it to us we can see what maybe fixable or not. :|
~Choice is up to you~

Later Recon.

As I said, they were unfinished. I'm not going to touch them, so I released them 'as is', as I stated in my previous post. If I was going to release something complete, it'd be better. The tools I used to make these are no longer being developed.

Use save states, like I said more than once in my last post, so you don't get stuck.

Remember, it's not a finished product. Not by a long shot. Treat it that way and you can look past the issues and see that it might be a decent hack.

It's released, so anyone can do whatever with it.

Which tools did you use while working on this ?
It "would be helpf" for me to know when I am sifiting through the rom and seing what may be undone or not.
Some of the stuff I've seen so far looks damaged and permanent however there are things that can be adjusted.

Thanks in advance

I used an editor that is unfinished. There is an entirely new level format, and no level editor can edit this ROM. Some editors might still work, but not for levels. The editor compiles the edits made in a project and applies it to a special ROM designed to receive such edits.

It's DahrkDaiz's editor Reuben. Can't remember which version I used. You'll have to spend some time with Google to find it; but it won't do you any good to edit levels with because you don't open the ROM inside it. You need the original project files, which I'm not releasing at this time.

Don't you essentially make your own with Reuben?

KP did make use reuban, I read one of his old post from jul this morning.
From what I understand dahrk was in development of a newer version reuben and something was side tracking him.
Since dahrk never got back with kp about it, I guess kp said fuck it and put it on hold uptil now which was 2 years ago. :/

Also I have been playing kps hack it is good and he has some nifty features you'll like.
You could kind of say its like the prequel to mario adventure 3 demo.

Now I wanna know where JaSp's music inserter is located. I've been wanting to make an 8-bit version of the Red Comet music from SMG, but I don't have the adequate knowledge of musical staffs nor the motivation to do so. The piano solo of this song isn't as hectic as the song as a whole...

Go download famitracker and read the tutorials, if you dont mind working with midis this should be natural for you.

Now with the last link I gave you I reckon you have enough brain power to combine all this information together and make your own tunes.

A minor inconvenience, but both hacks lock up directly upon startup in NEStopia. Looks like I'll have to play it on my PC.

Demo World 3- of what little was done with it, does look interesting judging from the screenshot.

yes same here, a no go with nestopia. Anyone know the issue with why they both lock up by chance? They look like pretty good hacks.

Use FCEUX or some other fork of it. It had a mapper change, to MMC5. However, they weren't done properly because of lack of documentation of the mapper itself. The Wii emulator works fine.

Question if you changed the mapper to mmc5 and stopped awhile back.
Is some of your problems in your rom still fixable or not ?
http://wiki.nesdev.com/w/index.php/MMC5
I don't know what you need to understand about the mmc5.
This link I posted up for you might be a clue to your problem if you come back to your hack in the near future.
