I seem to be having an issue with gimp 2.8. It works fine whenever I'm root - i.e. sudo - but whenever I run it as... me, I get an "Unable to open a test swap file" error. I googled it, but all I've found was a headache. I tried uninstalling and reinstalling, changing the folders in Preferences, but neither worked. Help!
I'm running Ubuntu 13.04 and I have no intention of getting the Windows version. ____________________ Sorry for the stupidity. That jerk will be dealt with in the most insane way possible. |

Did you have the same issue with previous versions? If not, you could revert to the last version that worked, for now. ____________________ |

Well, shit. It didn't seem to work. I think the problem has somehting to do with that controllerrc program. It doesn't seem to want to open for a standard user. And before you ask, I did try to change controllerrc's permissions and that didn't work ____________________ Sorry for the stupidity. That jerk will be dealt with in the most insane way possible. |

"/tmp/gimp-2.8" Didn't have that directory. No matter, I think my installation of Raring Ringtail got screwed up somehow. I'm having trouble updating it. I figure that might be part of the problem ____________________ Sorry for the stupidity. That jerk will be dealt with in the most insane way possible. |

Posted by ChaobomrHe didn't say "/tmp/gimp-2.8" he said "/tmp/ gimp-2.8" (notice the space that is there). ____________________ |

Crap, didn't see that space. I have the folder, but whenever I change the directory of the swap file and reset the program, it goes back to being blank. Do I have to edit controllerrc manually or something? ____________________ Sorry for the stupidity. That jerk will be dealt with in the most insane way possible. |

Posted by blackhole89 I have. It says that it needs to reset in order for the change to take hold, but when I do, it's back to square one. The error just pops up again. ____________________ Sorry for the stupidity. That jerk will be dealt with in the most insane way possible. |

Never mind, screw it. I got the unofficial one for Windows. There's probably something wrong with my Ubuntu computer. That's probably why it's behaving irrationally. ____________________ Sorry for the stupidity. That jerk will be dealt with in the most insane way possible. |

Posted by Chaobomr I don't why you even bothered with the linux version to begin with. :/ Next time if something won't work in linux but a windows version use it instead. Less time wasted, less problems with the install. |

Posted by MikeTechnoPosted by Chaobomr I never had that problem before upgrading Raring Ringtail or whatever it was called, except the time when I decided to upgrade. That's why. I enjoy using a variety of OS'es, and I initially thought that GIMP was Unix exclusive. ____________________ Sorry for the stupidity. That jerk will be dealt with in the most insane way possible. |
