final fantasy 1. -- awesome.
i still remember playing it all the time when i was younger, i spent hours on that ogre walk in the earth cave, levelling up like nobody's business. unfortunately, it hasn't aged well at all. |

I started a new game the other day on NESDS. However, I quit when I discovered NESDS sometimes silently fails to save. |

I didn't have it as a kid, but one of my friends did.
I eventually said this sucks ass because it has nothing on dragon warrior or wizardry. I eventually bought it. and it still sucks really bad. ____________________ |

I just bought FF: DoS for GBA the other day, cheap. I figured I would finally start and finish a game of FF II for once, but began playing the original instead. It is still a good way to waste time, at least. ____________________ |

I first played it in 1997. Unfortunately, I had been spoiled by Dragon Warrior III (still one of my favorite RPG's), and I felt that FF1 paled in comparison. I thought it was decent to good overall, but the slowness of the battle engine chafed my ass, as did the impracticality of magic. The magic point system struck me as an arbitrary, nonsencial way to add challenge. It came off like a store that wouldn't let you buy ten $1 items with a $10 bill or vice versa.
I liked picking your classes of heroes, the mid-game class upgrade, and the assorted tasks that you did as you got around the world. The remake has a modernized magic point system, and I would hope that it has a faster battle engine. Given that those were my two main gripes about the game, I probably would enjoy the remake, but it's in the middle of an ever-growing list of games that I never get around to playing. |

I'd like DoS more if it wasn't so fucking easy. =/
I'd like the original more if it wasn't so fucking slow, and if that damn magic level system wasn't so annoying (I also don't play Wizards in D&D-based games... gimme my Psychic Warriors instead) |

I've really never beat the original. Just the half-assed ports of it.
At least I've seen it done via TAS. That's always fun to watch four fighters win over all odds. |

Might as well play the GBA remake, Rydain. Not as challenging but at least you can say you beat the game.
I'm in a slightly different boat... really enjoy FF1 but FF2 is the death of me. Argh. |

I like FF1, It's great to play(and most of my never-anounced-and-dead hacks were for it) but I also hate FF2, so very, very slow, and I never liked that by building one stat up, the opposite stat went down. I've played the remake of 2, and it fixes the problems mostly, but it's too easy, and the remake of 1 is also too easy, and it gets rid of the magic level system, which I liked, but it did have awesome optionals, that are definately not too easy(if you do them at low levels, I beat Omega at level 51!(not uber-low, but still low) It was almost an hour long fight ). FF3 is my favorite of the NES games, as my Avatar says loud and clear, if you remove the fish, and I praise it's remake. ____________________ There are things I want to put here. Like a cool picture, my 8-bit theatre character test result, my MS and RO characters... But it's 12 AM, and I'm sleepy. |

Posted by ColinI forgot to mention that I finished FF1 on the NES. I beat Warmech, too. Hooray for an optional "boss" type enemy that I could actually kill. (That thingy stomping around the final areas of FFV wiped the floor with me.) |

I dunno what the odds are of fighting him in the GBA remake but I haven't had any luck. Watch me load it up later and face him right away. |

Posted by Colin Or you could use a Game Genie to give yourself infinite HP and MP in the original. Same difference. The GBA remake ruined the game. |
