"Hey, Grandpa, what are you doing?"
"Pwning n00bz." Heard about this article on the way in to work this morn-erm, afternoon. It seems that Nintendo was on to something with the whole "Touch Generation" line for the DS, as seniors (and those about to enter that stage) are increasingly playing video games. And more and more, they're playing Nintendo products, especially the Wii: Dick Norwood, 61, a semi-retired businessman who lives in a community for residents 55 and older in Crest Hill, Ill., spotted the Wii in a mall in December. After playing Wii bowling with two other couples at home, he persuaded Giovan’s, a local Italian restaurant, to begin a "seniors only" Wii bowling league, where nine couples now show up every Thursday. "When I started calling people about it, they had no idea what I was talking about, and they were laughing at me saying, ‘You want to start a bowling league on a video game in a bar?’" he said. "Well, we got there the first time, and we were there for six solid hours. In the past, I probably would have agreed that video games are just for kids. But I’ll tell you, at our age when you bowl for real, you wake up with aches and pains. Those balls aren’t light. But with this you’re getting good exercise, but you’re not aching the next day." They're not exactly throwing down in, say, your average FPS, but going towards less complicated games like Bejeweled and, well, Wii Sports. So that's who's been buying all the Wii's... |

Dude, OldGrandmaHardcore rocks. Not in actual gameplay but because she plays kickass games at that age. Who says you can't be a girl gamer and like First Person Shooters? Who says you have to play Pacman when you're old? ____________________ What FF7: Advent Children Character Are You? |

I can't convince any of my old folks to play any console games. ...Maybe I *should* try and get a Wii, just so I can laugh at them when try to use it. Or, y'know, as per what typically happens, they laugh at me as they hand me my head ____________________ |

And probably every single one of us is going to end up like this in 40 or 50 years time.
What's the big deal? |

Flurry #&postrank& That grandma was already 35-40 when Pong came out, not like us who were born during the 8bit or 16bit era, so it's special (and hearing her curse all the time like this)
My parents are playing the new Zelda on the Wii lately but they aren't exactly hardcore gamers ... even for handheld, it's just me with a Nintendo DS here, although my mother played Pokémon Pinball for a while before ____________________ |

Posted by Acmlm She was probably only playing it because it was Pinball. Unless she actually likes Pokémon, although the possibility of the universe exploding is higher than the chance an adult likes Pokémon. ____________________ What FF7: Advent Children Character Are You? |

Both of my parents were always heavily into videogames since the early 1980's. My mom had an Odyssey squared, and my dad had an Intellivision (his brother had an Atari 2600). They never yelled at me for playing games all day like some parents "OMG NINTENDO IS BAD FOR YOU GO PLAY OUTSIDE", because they played videogames more than I did! They're mostly into PC games though, not consoles. My dad was also a computer pioneer with a Commodore Vic-20 in 1981. |

My grandmother played Super Mario Kart with me.
She won twice, out of 20 times. Mom's currently addicted to Second Life, but she used to play Zelda and Tetris Attack somewhat often. The TA stopped when the SNES stopped working, of course... My stepdad sometimes played Halo and Halo 2 with me, before I got stuck selling them (fucking bills!). He never won, but that didn't stop him from trying... |

My grandma can kick my ass at Mahjong Garden.
I got my mom hooked on Tetris Attack (believe it or not) and she plays it all the damned time. |

My dad plays racing/sports/Call of Duty on the XBOX360 while my mom says that "she doesn't like videogames" although she played a little Tetris and I managed to get her to play Bust a Move ninty-something once I think. They're about 40 or so. ____________________ ._. + internet |

My mother and I used to play Mario Kart 64 all the time. She'd punch me in the shoulder like a guy when I'd break the game. Hopping walls in Wario's Stadium, Jumping off the track on the Star Road, and doing the Jungle Glitch to skip laps. ____________________ What FF7: Advent Children Character Are You? |
