It's basically just inputting a string of numbers into a hex editor. Figuring out how to do the pointers can be a bit tricky, though. If you can't figure it out, I'd be happy to help. |

Like it says in the readme (it's called "readme" for a reason, you know?), the patch should be applied to a clean ROM. ____________________ |

Because of how hard ASM/HEX is to me and how limited hacking feels with this game, I am going to try creating the game through Multimedia Fusion 2. That will allow me limitless possibilities such as more beautiful graphics (and more in general), custom music, enemies, power-ups/costumes, etc. Unless I do it wrong, the downfall is that it will no longer be a hack. I would be making a totally different game.
This, of course, is if I am able to teach myself MMF2 well. And in case anyone asks, I have not worked on this hack at all since last update (usually got overwhelmed by the limits and/or the ASM is needed). |

Aww... sorry to hear it, but yeah, it'd been a while since we'd heard anything out of this project and I feared you'd given up on it. I'm glad it's going to continue in another form, at least. While it won't really be a SMW hack anymore, keep us posted on the new game if possible. |

Here is a perfect example why hacking SMW was getting frustrating. I was so limited in size for Maria, that I was not able to put the detail and stylization that I wanted. Mostly with her arms and hands. The parts in the purple/pink section was not possible to draw in SMW and her arms would have been shrunken and mashed against her body.
Now I might be thinking about shrinking her hands. But on the other side, it is very distinct in style. I took reference from the main character in Monster World IV to make things easier on myself and because she was quite expressive. But yeah, if I learn to use MMF2 well, I will feel much more free to make this game. Sure this board does not have a normal game making section, but I suppose even though this is not a hack, I will post updates on this game. |

Ugh, tell me about it. The lack of horizontal space makes spriting for this game way more difficult than it ought to be. I've done, what, six main character sprites for SMW?, and every one of them has ended up with their arms mashed unnaturally to the sides, which just does not make for a natural walkcycle. Really, name a (non RPG) 16-bit game with stricter size limitations on its main character sprite than SMW. It's a really primitive engine. But hell, it does have a great editor.
You went and made me google Monster World IV, and yeah, that style would work great with Maria. I say keep the hands that size if it's at all workable. |

Posted by icegoom Thanks. I have ripped all (most) of the sprites from the game in the past so it should make things much easier. I do like the hands, but a lot of other people think they are large. I will go with this for a bit until there possibility that I would change the style. |

Couldn't someone ASM hack it so Mario could have a bigger sprite? ____________________ I miss post headers more. |

Posted by Sgraff87Posted by icegoom Although I personally am more inspired and think higher (no offense) of such people that endeavor to create 100% custom graphics, I can still appreciate the artistic talent that is offered in both the custom and the choice of placement of ripped-graphics. I guess, in a way, it is an art to place ripped-graphics in a manner that feels natural, as if it belongs there. But still, I think original graphics, regardless of where the inspiration comes from, is more admirable; however, Sgraff, my offer still stands (from the PM). <3 |

LL, I think he's only using those sprites as a refrence. Having rips handy is much easier than trying to view them during the game ____________________ I dealt with it. |

Posted by Lordlazer As Xkeeper mentioned, they are custom. I just used the sprites from the game as reference as to how I should tackle proportions in movement and facial ex |

References are all good...! I know how hard it is to draw without them and usually one can tell if they used a reference or not (be it another art piece or an actual object). But yea, I really like your planned design for Maria. <3
Posted by Sgraff87 Edit: With such hand designs, you can be really expressive, if you want. |

And here is my first take on her walking animations.
I really want to make her head move with her body back and forth for more dimension, but that will take a lot of effort. So I will get to that eventually. I mostly was focusing on he body for now. Striped socks and skirts are amazingly hard to sprite. If anyone sees any flaws or places to improve on, please tell me. |
