This hack in fact is like they were always female (having a hack where mario collects pink mushrooms rather than super mushrooms would be a little strange). |

Just an update so that you all know that I am not giving up on this.
I am currently brainstorming interesting and fun levels. The overworld map will not be viewed overtop but will be viewed from the side like a miniature level. I will also have a drawing of Bowsie (queen koopa) done soon.  |

Bowsie looks even more tough than Bowser
Also I am still working with the design for the Koopa Troopas. Something seems off with her. Goombas look pretty good. ^^ |

I agree with you on Koopa being off, but I'm not sure if we have a similar wavelength. To me, it's just about how it seems more like a human in an outfit and not just an alternate-type Koopa. Maybe a little fusing in...
Bowsie, yeah, seems somewhat tougher than her counterpart alright, but the hair...just doesn't seem that good to me. It's fine, but it's not getting to me on the wavelength. Goomba...works nicely. Is the color going to be the same as the former? |

I think they all look very good. I don't think there is anything wrong with the Koopa Troopa or Bowsie.

Those are some pretty awesome character sketches. My only thought is, are you confident in being able to fit the detail into the sprites so they look most like the sketches? You could go with 16 color sprites for more details but I'm just looking at the height/width of the sprites when I mean the detail. Do you think you'll have enough room? ____________________ |

Posted by FirePhoenix0 I am fairly confident with my skill in sprites at this point. Bowsie has a lot of detail but she also will be larger than most sprites. Her colors are the same as Bowser's as well. I already made a "Koopette" in my hack before and she featured a lot of detail. I kinda like this design a bit better. Seems that other people like it as well. I will see if I can change her around a bit. I was able to get Maria's sprites working despite her detail. |

I <3 what you're doing with your hack thus far. I'm really impressed with how you're going about designing the graphics instead of simply "whipping" them up (you're actually doing real concept art! ). I love your pixel art thus far and can't wait to see your future updates. Although I don't keep my eyes locked on the hacking scene these days, I will keep at least one eye locked on this hack. Great stuff!
P.S. <3 the new bowser and goomba. To improve the koopa, hmm... Perhaps the koopa might be good to go about it with a kind of reversed engineered approach. Instead of first doing concept art, though you do have a concept for the koopa, it might be fruitful to try out what ideas you have for the koopa in pixel form and perhaps then you'll come up with "better" ideas, or maybe you'll find out that the concept art you have is perfect. While I'm certainly not going to say that you ought to change anything, I don't quite get the logistics of the Koopa Girl. Is she wearing a hood that's either made from or made to look like a Koopa? Or is that part of her head and she actually has two sets of eyes? Since Bowsie's a reptillian humanoid, it'd make sense for her minions to also be actual reptiles instead of humans dressed up like them.
But do whatever you want. I have no doubt that you're going to do a great job matching your sprites up to your concept art. |
