I admit it, I'm a perfectionist and I just can't stand it if something seems wrong to me! Hope you don't mind that I'm posting a new thread for this, because it's also more of a question about whether I should try doing that with several NPC/enemies/more of the original game or not.

Just to show what I'm talking about, I've edited Shy Guy, by editing graphicSet.png file from Shy Guy. Yep, I did it the hard, but probably safest way. =3 The video is not in the best quality (like the Shy Guy on the bottom right, inside the battle, seems to have bigger eyes at some points, which isn't how it actually looks like), but nevertheless, I hope you see what I was talking about.

I know, the HP and Defense of Mario are not normal, that's because I had to start a new game, but didn't wanted to die right away. I enhanced Shy Guy's colors, gave him blue shoes, and decided to use the color I had left for the slingshot.

What good is a video when you can't try it out yourselves? So I'll give you what you need, and tell you what to do, in order to use my version of red Shy Guy in your game.^^

First, you need to download LazyShell and need a Super Mario RPG ROM. Then, you need the paletteSet from here and graphicSet

which you have to download/save in order to have this Shy Guy. When you have those two things, open up Lazy Shell and click on Sprites. Better make a copy of the SMRPG ROM first and open up the copy.

In the video below, I show you the full procedure to replace the old Shy Guy with my version of Shy Guy. If that video doesn't help or work, below I have the instructions in the form of text and images.

In Sprites, select on the top left {0346} Shy Guy or search shy and click on Shy Guy. When you have Shy Guy open, open up Palettes and click on the import button and import the palette that I've provided you in a link above, and then hit OK. The image below had green arrows on it that display what you have to copen/click.

After you've done that, open BPP Graphics. The image below shows you which button/image that is that you have to hit.

Once you have BPP Grapics open, go to the top left part of the large image, which is subtile0001. The green arrow on the image below shows the location and on the right you can see the text "subtile0001" be displayed. Hit with the right-mousebutton on that spot and select Import... and open the graphicSet.png file, which is that one image with parts of Shy Guy in it.
Don't import the image on subtile0002 - subtile...., import it on subtile0001!!
Then hit OK and save Shy Guy's new appearance, only if the Shy Guy looks correct (if he doesn't, close Sprites without saving, and try anew), save the Shy Guy by clicking on the floppy disk icon on the top left (and just to be sure, do the same in the window that opens when you open the Lazy Shell program).

I realize that changing the red Shy Guy will screw up the other Shy Guys names Shy Ranger and Sling Shy, but not to worry, I also have palettes for those two. That is, if you like the colors I have to offer. If not, let me know what colors I should try instead.

Blue Shy Guy link

Yellow Shy Guy link

I'll update the list later, and add more colors if you like to. In order to replace Shy Ranger or Sling Shy, open one of them up and only import the palette from the Shy Guys I've provided above and don't forget to save Sprites.^^

Hope the videos work, the instructions were good, and the Shy Guys work in your SMRPG ROM.^^

Now, here is something that I want in return... An answering to these questions :
Do you think the Shy Guy looks good? And if he does, should I try editing more sprites or even enhance the game itself but only in the way some sprites and characters look, without changing the story, text, or anything else?

Darn this took me long to write! Hope you don't mind reading all that, hahaha.
If something doesn't work, tell me so in this thread.

PS: Yep, typical. I write a long forum thread with images, instructions and videos, and what do I get? No answer for a few days. Well guess what, I won't do squat for you guys, if my replies and my attempts to help you a bit isn't worth shit to you. I have better things to do as administrator than waiting for a response on this topic.
