Just spent 3 days lying around doing fuck all, after having an operation.

Had a button next to me at my bedside. whenever i pressed it, a nurse came. and I got one of these things:

Free Food (last night I said 'can I have two plates of casserole instead of just one?' and the dinner guy goes 'yeah sure!')
Free Drinks (tea, coffee, coke, orange juice)
Free Morphine
Free Massage (!!)

And I had my own TV on a crane thing, with a dvd player. And a selection of films to watch, including Die Hard.

And holy shit

I want to go back. It was like a free holiday. Obviously an operation is never welcome, even when it is free, but still.

Anyone else had any experiences in the hospital as good as this?

No, haven't had that, but I never spent the night in a hospital except when I was very young. The last couple of times it was the emergency room, once when I passed out at school and they tested my blood sugar, and another time I fell off a swing which broke and hit my head and had to get a cat scan.

Nope.

Healthcare treatment (doctors, hospitals, dentistry) is 100% free in the UK for all ages.

Hell, even the huge amounts of drugs I had to take home with me were free of charge.

What funds the doctors then? :O I mean I'm all for free healthcare, it SHOULD be that way, but it does make me wonder if people aren't paying, where's the salary coming from?

Government funded through taxes (the amount each person has to pay each month is a pathetically small amount of just a few pounds, and the NHS still manages to have a budget of over £96 billion each year).

This is why the United Kingdom is light-years ahead of the United States in terms of health care

Same with Canada. Fuck USA's healthcare system. Twice as expensive and half as good.

Yeah, that's another reason why I want to leave the USA after college. Unhindered American-style capitalism tends to be very bad for the non-wealthy.

Canada's has its problems (hello can we get some doctors over here), but it's nice.

But I do wonder how you pulled off free food and massages. That hardly seems like a medical expense.

When you say 100% free, it's not quite true. That's why my pay slip has NI (National Insurance) deductions after standard tax

Still it's a good system that means people do not have to forgo treatment because they can't afford it.

I had to have surgery done to my mouth, but I had a deviated septum that was found mid-surgery, so I got that fixed free of charge. Also, it was Shark Week, and a Mythbusters marathon was playing on my TV crane thing.
