Hahaha, yeah Eggman in Sonic 2. It's impossible for sonic to catch him up.

Then same thing with the Mario games. In SPRG, Mario is apparently a good jumper, yet everyone knows that Luigi happens to outdo him even back in SMB2. :p

Well we know there's going to be athletics, swimming and table tennis. So probably several track events and some swimming disciplines. Hopefully they toss in some stuff that hasn't been done in Olympic-themed games before.

I have a feeling the game will be decent... the Olympic license is *NOT* cheap.

See this could be a decent game, but I have a funny feeling the design process went a bit like this:

-Put Mario and Sonic in it together so people will buy it
-Make it sports-related so they can have ads on the walls like in real stadiums
-Make it the Olympics so it's something different
-If we're lucky, put some effort into making it fun.

And Shigeru miyamoto is apparently involved too. Which is kinda funny as he's the guy who rather delay a game to improve it, while SEGA seems to be alot more strict about deadlines. Let see how it works out.

It's being developed by SEGA's sport games team, but with Miyamoto in charge. Sonic Team isn't involved, which should help avoid the high level of suck they've been putting out lately.

Also, Matt over at IGN mentioned in his blog that the game will have online play, but it's not clear where he got that information.

Mario would get disqualified for using performance-enhancing mushrooms.

And I don't see how Mario or Sonic would be able to compete with the other in certain events, such as a footrace. It reeks of "gimmick" to me.

Stop applying logic to video game characters that go out of their freaking way to defy logic. Seriously, I don't care how fast Sonic is, it doesn't matter either, because these characters never HAVE to make sense in what they do.. and that doesn't make it a gimmick, it just means that their design property is based around what is fun, not what is interesting or profounding.

That said.. I can't see this game being bad if Shigeru is at the head of it, I just can't.. It definitely won't be for everyone, but come on.. the man is a genius in what he does, I don't doubt for a second that he could pull off an incredible party game here. (And that is what I see it as, a party game..)

Yea, yea, many past Olympic titles have sucked, we all know that, doesn't mean this one has to, especially not if it bends the rules, adds its own unique sports events and trials, and just all and all has a humorous (and not serious) tone to it. As Xk said earlier in the thread.. it is really quite funny that everyone is eager to judge it based on.. nothing at all other than the name.
