You might as well know I was banned for having my account hacked and spammed in (Luigi442wii), but the account was never actually unbanned from the board for some reason.

If your account was taken over, it's not like we can just unban it and be done with it; the password will have been changed by whoever took it over. Unfortunate though it is, the best options in such a situation are for you to either email one of the administrators or sign up a new account and PM to get your password back.

I PM'd you about 12 days after my account was gone... Staple (or whoever it was) forgot to change it.
I couldn't rereg earlier, because my IP was the same one until recently - and proxies wouldn't display the CAPTCHA.

Glad to see you back!

Out of curiosity, what encouraged you to join Board 2?
What do you feel can be done to help you feel more welcome?

It might be nice to get an idea of how people perceive the board from the outside, and figure out why some people might register an account, but then not return.

There are a lot of enjoyable memories, and there's a lot of useful information, but the board definitely has even more to offer with newcomers and building new lasting experiences, too.

I think the surge of activity over the past week or so is causing this. When a board is active more people join usually. Also, I put the board's link on Kafuka a day before I was banned.

To that note, I've noticed a few more bots appearing again. Search engines must be picking up on increasing activity, too.

I recall that I found Board 2 from just searching SMB3 hacking stuff back when I was starting to ROM hack, and I think that I waited a little while before I actually created an account. So, the subject matter that can come up as search results can potentially lead people here. Though, the reason I wonder is because there are the people who will register, post an introduction, and then seemingly disappear, so there's a chance that they didn't necessarily register to post about something related to ROM hacking.

I suppose it's possible that people look for information, find Board 2, and register an account, but once they read the information they were looking for, they might conclude that they don't have any reason to post, and then they just don't return, at least immediately.
With this in consideration, we might actually have more people register accounts on a regular basis just to read what we have here if the topics weren't viewable for guests. However, then it might be more difficult for search results to connect with Board 2.

The bot floodgates were really opened when we switched from our custom captcha system to recaptcha... perhaps it's worth trying to switch back to the custom one. If more distinct types of bots have been seen lately, that probably just implies that the technology to automatically solve ReCaptcha is spreading to more actors.

For the record, though, the number of bots that actually get through is still utterly dwarfed by the number of those that get vaporised on sight because of predictable posting patterns...
