I want to make a Super Mario RPG hack involving My Little Pony.

Basically, what this RPG is about is that the Mane Six are thrown back in time to just before the princesses first defeated Discord, and have to find the Elements of Harmony, not for themselves, but for the princesses to use as they originally did. But then at the last moment they have to do it anyway.

I could do graphics, but the SMRPG style is pretty damn difficult to work with, considering it's all pre-rendered 3D and stored in some deranged format that I really ought to get used to. Pretty much the same thing goes for maps, come to think of it.

Also, is there a way to increase the amount of playable characters? I can only define five of them and there are six main characters. Also, six elements, so that's a bit of a problem.

Just to prove I'm not full of shit, here's what I have so far:

I'm sure expanding the character table to fit one moe should not be too hard considering the odd number. Though, some data moving would be needed to make room.

good luck!

Yeah I basically know next to nothing about assembly hacking on the SNES, so someone else'll have to cover that base...

I can help with the extra character. I've done a lot of work adding an 8th character to Chrono Trigger, so I know the general idea of what I need to do. One question is how does Lazy Shell read the character data. If it's set to look at the location for the data, we'd need a modified version to read the new one. If it looks at the ASM code that loads said data, then we can use it as is.

Another consideration is available RAM. The data will probably need to be kept after existing character data, so some shuffling may be necessary.

Want me to dump the research I do in a separate thread? I think it would help for organizational purposes.

You know, I've been thinking this whole "Pony" thing was just a fad. I thought it was one of those things people like just because of how stupid it is, and/or to bug other people who hate it with a fiery passion. Personally, I'm indifferent to it. I've never seen it.

But to see someone who likes the show so much go to such great lengths for it that they'd hack a game for it, something very complicated to do and time consuming, it begs the question: Is the show really that good?

I've never really watched it myself, but it seems people do seriously like it from what I've heard.

Also, I did some basic testing of the 6th character. Using a value of "5" in one of the battle access slots loaded a pair of Cymbals that transformed into a golden Mario when attacking and a normal Mario after the attack.

It's currently loading the item data for stats, so most things are at 255. It has every spell in the game, even in battle, and is named "Jump".

Side note: Fighting Bowser in the beginning with Mario, Toadstool, and Mallow made for an interesting fight.

Does the show actually leave that much room for a good assortment of bad guys or would you have to make them all up?

AxemRanger: it is, you should give it a try.

Nick: Hasbro has the rights to the D&D monster manual and used a few of them so far. I have my own copy, and there's always the bad guys from earlier series. And then there's the recolors, like the the Pyrosprite up there among the Parasprites.

In other news, time to come clean, you guys. This was entirely an attempt to make a point to Superrpger and Knightmarez89. Even though the battle layout image was not in any way faked, I only made that to have something to show for it, and demonstrate how careful wording and a screenshot or two would increase your chances of getting help.

The funny thing is, Mauron's test results could very well end up as a perfectly legit tutorial on the subject, helping the SMRPG hacking community along. And that's great. So keep at it, Mauron! Not for me, but for everybody else.

The rest of you, thanks for playing

Actually, quite a lot had been accomplished with OpenPoké. On the other hand, this was never meant to accomplish anything but to make that point, which makes Mauron's sixth character research all the better.

While I'm indifferent on the end result of this project, I'm glad I saw the thread and tested the feasibility.

I've actually made some more progress on the subject, and I'll post that in a new thread soon.

I've been pondering how hard it'd be to draw a base pony in a SMRPG-suitable form, actually, since revealing my true plan.

Edit: pfff I don't even know

I love Cream! That's something you SHOULD know!It seems to be that you all have already planned all of this, and possibly you may not need any more help. *sigh*

. . .

. . . .

. . . . . but if you would like my help, then I can aid you.

I can consul you that you may make the sprites look like the TV show instead of the 3D look that you see in the original game. Not only it looks for for the SNES, but it also fits with the amount of colors you can use in one palette (14 including the "transparent" color). That is something any sprite artists can do, and I know you may have one.

It's nice that Mauron is working with you, because I have little programming experience. So, assembling more party members is something I don't know. That isn't to say that I don't have programming experience at all. I do know C++ a bit. Plus, I have hacked games before. So I do know the basics. And of course, I'm willing to learn something new.

Umm . . . I can also do anything when it comes to game design and development. But then again, you may already have what you need. I can make artworks, storytelling, level design, basically everything except sounds and music, which shouldn't matter with this hack.

Oh, and I'm a MLP fan. I watched every episode, well, more like save every episode. I can also make pony art. If you want, you can see my original character. Oh, and I do talk like Fluttershy, because . . . well . . . I often do get let behind . . . as if no one wants me. I guess that's okay . . . because maybe I don't exist. It's not like I have anything better to do . . . except suicide . . .

I can help you . . . if that's okay with you . . . I guess . . .

Hey Sam,
pretty sure the project is discontinued.

But, if you'd like to work on something, I'm in the middle of resurrecting a dead project all by my lonesome, and it's pretty tough finding the motivation and creativity to work on it when there's no one there to help me.

It's not SMRPG though. It's a Pokémon crossover being made with RPG Maker XP. Just about everything is in concept, so it will definitely take a lot of time. I personally haven't done anything with it in weeks.

If you're interested, reply to the thread or shoot me a PM, and I can PM you with details and such.
