It seems that when trying to import certain images (recolored by myself) they're not correctly displayed, while others with less colors work just fine. Is there a certain amount of colors that I can use? Or does it has to do with something else?

The SNES supports up to 15 colors for sprites. However, it uses the first color in the next palette row as the color for transparency.

The best you can do for making sure you have the right amount of colors is to go into Paint and make a row of all the colors in your sprite.

To minimize the confusion when identifying colors, after selecting a color in the left box, remove that color from your sprite by using the eraser tool. While holding right-click, go over your sprite a few times to make sure all of that color is gone.
Just remember when using this method, what ever color is in the left color box, that color replaced by the color in the right color box.

If you have questions, ask away.

Ah, I see.
Sorry for not answering you earlier, but I was a little distracted lately. I've been talking with someone I've met on deviantART, who wants to help me make my own version of SMRPG (I want to make a sequel) and so far we've been discussing a little.

I may not know how the Lazy Shell program works, but I'm starting to understand that every field has a reason to be there. The one user I've met (name is virtualboy2558) helps me with the ideas and design ideas, and I try to make them come to life. Since I do need a lot of practise, it might take me a while, but I'll try as hard as I can.

This here is a image (400% zoom so you can see it) with chairs on it, made for a fast food restaurant that I'd like to make. I want to make it as realistic as possible.

If you like what you see, I'm going to make a lot more, including adding new animations to the main characters etc, and show you some of my spritesheets so you can use them, but only if you ask me to.

I'll be pretty much making sprites first and then trying to put them into the game, but thanks to the reply I have received from you (Yakibomb), I'll try to make sure that I won't exceed the limitation of 15 colors per image/frame.
I'm going to use the Mega Mushroom design by the way, so the red mushroom design shouldn't appear in the game I'm trying to make. ^^

Some paint programs have a "reduce color depth" feature and other options you can use to reduce to 15 colors.

Thank you for remeding this headache. I never noticed to the 16 color thing.

I It just so happens that Fastone can convert puctures to 16 bit. so while the sprite in the game won't be perfect, it will be close to the original.

Just a heads up as well for the general rule of thumb.

You can have 15 colors + transparency as said per sprite at most and only 8 sprite palettes on screen at once. (Unless your games like Star Ocean/Tales of Phantasia, then it's only 4 at max unless you drop reflections and such from water and mirrors in the game).

If you go above 8, it'll start overwriting the previous palettes.
