Me & my Cousin been playing Call Of Duty: Modern Warfare 3, haven't touched the story mode & went straight into multiplayer so I've thought of making this thread. What do you guys like about this series, love it? Hate it? Which missions you like the best?

Talk about everything Call Of Duty here I suppose lol!

In order to not piss off the fanboys, I'll leave it at "I hate Call of Duty."

I had fun playing MW2 at a 'friend's once. That's about the limit of my exposure.

My little brothers would get in fist fights over who got to play Black Ops in a given situation. Yeah, they're that mad over it. I have had a bit of exposure to that game whenever I went over there, and I thought it was pretty fun.

My buddy and I play the Nazi-Zombies section of Black Ops a fair bit. I'm alright with the online competitive play, but I don't think I could every devote the time necessary to become good at it, and thereby I never really bother with it.

Trying to get the achievements for those zombie levels is pretty fun though too. We once spent almost two hours to get the achievement for the Call of the Dead level.

Personally, I really hate how this series and MMORPGs turn kids into graphic whores...

Fuck the "graphics whores", as you call 'em. Just recently I was linked to this one animated GIF of Generic Military-Themed Shooter #150, which showed very well-rendered soldiers walking straight through a closed (but well-rendered) door. What good are highly realistic graphics when you can't even handle a door right?!

Oh, not to mention the shit about the health system of 99% of current FPS games... You get hit, you start seeing the world in red, you hide for 10 seconds and you're as good as new.

Fair enough - but I think that's a major appeal of the gameplay, encouraging people to focus on finishing kills.... just arm waving here since I haven't played.

As far as unrealistic health systems go, that's another thing. Now, I don't play FPSes very much at all, let alone Generic Military Themed Shooters, but here's one thing I read about that I can totally imagine:

You got your GMTS with a focus on gameplay. You get hit? You see red and hide to regenerate. Guns rarely jam and have quick reload. Then you got the realistic stuff like America's Army. Bullets fucking hurt and your guns are quick to jam when misused. It's all very realistic.

So on this side we got people like za909 who want the gameplay to be more realistic, and on the other side we got people who want it less realistic.

Ten bucks say the people on the other side are (mostly) the same as those who want better (read: more realistic) graphics. When you want super-realistic graphics but don't want to care about breaking your legs from fall damage (as opposed to just taking off a chunk of HP), you got issues.

Wait, why's that? I agree that graphics should take a backseat to gameplay, but I think anyone looking for hyper-realistic gameplay is missing the entire point of a video game.

I might have exaggerated a bit there. It was the closing line, I'm allowed to.

hyper-realistic gameplay.

Don't get me wrong, I don't want hyper-realistic gameplay, it's nearly everyone under the age of 14 basically, those who consume games.
Also don't think that I hate the entire genre because of all the stupid crap that's going on nowadays, with the release of Call of Duty: Ultra-Modern Space Black Ops Warfare 22, however I could still count the FPS games that I've enjoyed playing on my hands...It's just the way they make these games...they're nothing more than just cashcows with no effort put into them. They just write some shit with their DevToolKit and sell it.

So... it's basically the same as the GameMaker/MMF kiddies churning out cheap Mario or Sonic clones by the dozen, but with better graphics?

Playing games is an escape from reality. Even if a game was hyper-realistic (in terms of graphics) when the hell else are you going to be able to throw tomahawks at people and kill them in one shot, even though you only hit their foot?

On the other hand, I once got to try out a military F-16 flight simulator (with the moving cockpit and all) and the officers there used it to train real pilots on them. However, it was an escape for me even though it was meant to be as realistic as possible. Who else gets to do that? It was definitely different for me. So different that I will never forget it.

I love the fact I can bash people to death with a Riot Shield.

I'm just glad they're not "ultra-realistic" FPS games yet. Too much realism = more code on graphics than gameplay.

For reference, I play mostly to be social.

People who call any call of duty game realistic have no idea what they're talking about anyway.

Red Orchestra series is way closer to realism than CoD, and even that game have it's arcadey elements. There is a few Battlefield 2 mods that focuses on realism, but those are for very patient people (very slowpaced, like a real war).

Personally I'm way more fond of shooters like Quake, Doom and Team Fortress 2 that dosen't care at all for realism. :/ I bought one Call of Duty game, realized I didn't like it at all.

I've only played Call of Duty a few times and never saw much of the appeal. Therefore I decided not to play them and went onto more creative games like Valve shooters, Garry's Mod, Minecraft, etc. I think whoever is making Call of Duty nowadays are morons. They're release a new game about every year with very few new features. It is still the same repetitive game that makes it seem like it has new revolutionary ideas, but doesn't. The most realistic game I play is Counter-Strike: Source which as you all should know is very unrealistic when you get to the mods.

Edit: oh yeah, forgot my main point. I think due to the reasons listed above, it will fade away like Guitar Hero and the entire music game genre did.
