After seeing this article about Japanese women getting surgery to make their teeth crooked intentionally, I felt the subject merits a thread.

What do you guys think of cosmetic surgeries? While the above example may not be the best, suppose the kinks to various surgeries were worked out; would you get them for yourself?

If there weren't inherent risk, would you get any sort of cosmetic surgery?

I think if cosmetic work is going to be done, it should be necessary. Removing Moles and tattoos is "necessary", if the person deems it so. If a woman gets work done on her breasts just because she wants bigger breasts, it isn't necessary. If there is reason to justify getting the surgery, it would be to improve the married sex life. In many cases, marriage and/or sex life is not the reason women wanted bigger breasts; they just wanted to flaunt them as they would a new fashion accessory. That's not something I would deem a worthy justification to disrespect their bodies like that. I've heard of people wanting to get breast enhancement to return themselves to the way they were before bearing children, and that seems /more/ OK to me than the prior example.

Not only that, it's the ethics of spending that money on something more useful or just saving the money altogether, since insurance policies (should you even have one) don't cover cosmetic surgeries.

Actually, a lot of women get breast augmentations because it gives them more confidence. At the same time, a lot of women will also get the surgery so that they have something that draws attention to them in public, satisfying needs that they may have for attention.

society puts alot of focus on attractiveness, esp. for women, attractive women are more likely to get more attention/focus and fast track for promotions, etc.

i can understand why they'd consider getting breast work done
