It's not a question about happiness, it's a question about aiding them so that they are able to go through the educational stages possible so that they could cure cancer (in this scenario).

So:
- Help person reach the educational level required to develop a cure for cancer by assisting them through their difficulties in early education

OR

- Ignore the difficulities, potentially have this person unable to comprehend elementary education because this person hasn't had the support they needed to get through this obstacle.

I think I'd go with the first option.

i would like to see the board return to its former quality, but most of the good members are long gone. the board needs to be completely reborn into something different that actively draws a deeper community.

I personally think this is mature site compared to a big percent of the internet. Yeah a lot of regulars are a bit hostile to new members, but honestly if you can't take some hostility, you shouldn't be here. I don't like when people whine like "Oh he yelled at me! I will cry!"

You know this is a pretty shitty mindset, right? Trying to justify being an ass to the fact that other parts of the internet is worse is not really very valid.

Drama will always happen, you can never get away from that. People being an general ass to each other? You can get away from that, I know quite a few places around the net that I go to that do. The question is, are the people here willing to be in a community where they are not allowed to be an ass?

I left this place before because it was hostile. And it was not even aimed at me, nor did I take offence at it. It's much simpler then that, really. I just don't find it worthwhile to waste my time in a community where respect for one other is that low. Of course, YMMV, as always.

Well, it depends what you say. I'd agree you shouldn't be offended if someone is basically calling you a name or something, but older members telling new members to stop posting (and making fun of users whenever they do post) is not being hostile, it's being total dicks.
