Today on Monday, the 9/11 Memorial will open. US is on high alert.

How about remembering all the victims american/iraqi/afghani/etc of unjust wars in the Middle East? The body count in the Middle East from American operations is over 30x the number of people who died on 9-11.

Rather than "tomorrow*", don't you mean "today"?

I feel sorry for anyone who has to travel today, especially via plane; I'm sure the security will be twice as unreasonable and invasive as usual (and perhaps twice as ineffectual).

Yeah, US has been receiving threats. Anyone also remember flight 93?

Depends. Did you remember the execution style massacre of innocent civilians (including women and children) who were handcuffed and then shot in the head in Ishaqi?

How about the mass murder of civilians in Haditha where a single marine managed to shoot two women and five children all unarmed, all innocent in the head?

Sorry, but despite living in the shadow of the Pentagon as a kid, I just can't get in the mood for "remembering 9/11" given the horrible atrocities our government as perpetrated in the name of revenge of this date.

Well, it seems like the worldview associated with that fundamentally is the same as in those RPGs where you go from dungeon to dungeon haplessly slaughtering $badguy's underlings for gold and xp but then are suposed to consider him a complete monster when he razes his first human town. That killing "the other guys" is something that is even comparable in principle to "your people" being killed is simply not a thought that occurs to them. Compare also to those facebook collages.

Yes, except "our government" did not commit atrocities. "Our government" was trying to protect the people of this country, and it is abhorrent to condemn the entire government for the underhanded actions of malicious individuals who happened to be serving in the military.

They were trying to protect the people of your country by toppling one of the very few regimes in the Middle East that was not run by Islamists? Or perhaps by ordering in a more or less explicitly top-down manner the flying of "terrorism subjects" into bases in countries without effective laws against torture and lawful imprisonment to question them without being encumbered by the nominal protections of your own law?
