You know, I can't remember the last time we had a "it's declining" thread. It was almost a tradition of it's own for awhile.

Given that the integers (e.g. post numbers) are not dense in themselves, surely there must be a limit to how long a decline can continue happening.

It's a sign things are finally getting back to normal. Or, it means we've quite recently peaked again, and this is as good as it gets.

Or it could mean just about anything, or nothing at all.

Holy crap, Ailure posting of his own accord?

We must really be going downhill.

We're going uphill. This time, there's no pain - the pain is felt going back the other way. People are emerging out from the I.R.C. What does that stand for, you say? You didn't say that? The parrot did. I.R.C. stands for Isolated Radioactive Confinement. Almost everyone's out of there, and things are going a lot better out here! It's like someone kicked an anthill.

Um... unless I'm missing something here, the integers are dense in themselves.

http://mathworld.wolfram.com/Dense.html

The integers have no limit points when regarded as a subset of itself with the typical metric. So...

Adding mathfagging to forum drama ftw.

edit: I think I messed up a tad. The limit points of the integers probably have to be defined in terms of another super set, like the reals. In any case, the limit points of in would consist of , and is still

Argh, looks like I failed hard. I had an entirely different concept of density in mind. What I should have said would be something like "the canonical ordering on the positive integers is not dense".
I've also had the impression that the definition outlined here would be closer to what I imagined, but I can't be bothered to actually think through whether some condition on the topology on used (Hausdorff?) might be sufficient to make the statement work...

If you keep shrinking back into the I.R.C., it would.

Great analysis, MathOnNapkins! If only you stayed...

I'll try to invite some friends here. Then I'll make a "IT IS FREAKING INCLINING FOR ONCE" thread with he post of "WE NEED OLD STAFF YOU MORONS". Hopefully that will confuse you all enough time to think of an elaborate scheme to bring activity back.
