I understood that but I'm asking, did he just draw tiles using the heat shades and then apply the translucent layer 2? That how it seems to be done...

I just took them off a pallete bar from MZM, using the Visualboy Advance emulator's Pallete Viewer. I also fooled a few people from another message board I visit on occasion saying that was an HDMA effect before one person knew what it really was...

And I'll let anyone who reads that to ponder what it means...

^Why am I reminded of the jumping Goomba blocks from SMB3? You don't happen to have items that are actually enemies do you?

Hmm, if I can do what Fu did to his (still popular and enjoyed) hack DWTLC by replacing the Twimp wiht SMB3 Goomba blocks and using the right graphics and such... a little off topic, haven't gotten much done because Nene's OS system gotten a virus which completely destroyed the hard drive (and Becky had to buy a new latop) and my PC is getting fixed still.

A little on-topic; 1ups are frequent in the game BUT... but, are you willing to take a chance to collect them all...? That is what the message in the image below meant.

Being nitpicky here, but... You're missing an article in the message box. "...can be a wolf..."

Otherwise, looks good. The brown trees on the overworld seem odd to me, but that's really just personal preference.

Wow! You did that without HDMA?! That is great! Do those blocks in the lowest portion of the screen actually hurt Mario?

Heh...It'd be pretty rotten if you made sprites that look like 1-ups, but instantly kill Mario when touched. Ooh look, there's a 1-UP! --POW! You're dead.

... that gives me an idea now. As for the HDMA'ish wanna-be effects; no they do not. It's purely for special effects. Of course those two screens are already outdated.

If by "be pretty rotten" you mean "absolutely suck and make people not want to play it".

I agree with HyperHacker. The evil 1-ups would do nothing but cause frustration level to rise. If you make the graphics look different, so you can tell them apart, it would be okay though. And I do agree that the fake HDMA looks great.
