I thought something that is commonly found in salt water could be used for fusion or something too, I forgot the details. :x

In Germany, recently, due to a failed government programme to switch to some novel "renewable" fuel, gas prices have gone up to 1.67 (€ / l) = 9.14235241 US$ / US gallon (conversion courtesy of Google).

Just wanted to pitch that in.

chungy, that's local for you?

'Round here (Roseburg, OR) it's still under 4 bucks a gallon.

Yeah but we've been killing people and junk to keep it cheap here. Or so I've been lead to believe..

My friend shared an interesting conspiracy theory the other day about it: That the US refuses to drill here and still purchases foreign oil so that when the other countries run out, we'll control the world's supply. An interesting thought at least.

That's just it - they won't run out anytime soon.

But if we can finally get Israel to gain control of the Gaza strip, they'll be sure to sell the oil there cheap to their major longstanding ally. Ya know, the oil that's probably there, just hidden. Oh well, hypothetically assuming there is actually access to the giant oil reserve, accessible from somewhere in Israel, it would explain a lot.

Oil won't run out soon, but it will get more expensive. Which hopefully makes the alternative more competitive as well, which they already are in some places due to subsidized bio-fuel/cheap public transportation.

Most of the public transportation system itself here is not (directly) affected by gas prices here as the buses uses biogas from generated from garbage. Of course there is not enough biogas for every car in town, so it seems like they keep it for public transportation.

I ride my bike to work everyday, so it's not a huge issue for me.

However if i want to see my dad and grandmother, it's a two hour drive. I'm thankful for the car that we do have since it's good as far as miles per gallon.

Public transportation blows here. There's the city bus, filled with people who smell, homeless people and everyone else. It's a good place to get robbed or worse. Plus, the bus tends to be early one day and late the next day so if you want to get to a place at, say, 1pm, you might want to leave your house at 11am to get to the bus stop and maybe you'll get to your destination on time. With a car, getting to that same place, might only take you twenty minutes.
