Yup, a pointless nostalgia thread.
I was using Windows 98 at the time, and therefore I was not equipped to unzip files without first downloading a program for it, since I did not know jack about computers at the time, I managed to find some already unzipped roms online, along with an unzipped copy of VGB - an old, strictly gb/gbc emu.

Anyway, it was Pokemon Blue.

So, any of you guys still remember the first game you ever saw come to life on your computer?
It was like Christmas...

Probably a Pokemon game of some sort. I can't really remember that well; it's not something that I really committed to my memory.

Not sure, but it seems that all my recollections of horribly badly configured emulators on a low-spec system are of Super Mario World.

I remember Nesticle.

I always thought it was a cut off hand.

Then I applied some wordplay and oh my god

Bionic Commando using Nesticle. I downloaded at my dad's workplace and brought it home on 3.5 floppies. Ahh Nesticle and its tile editor must be what got me started on romhacking.

Super mario bros. 1. On nesticle. I actually had a CD burnt and brought it to school... Put it on every computer. Of course, back then, having a burnt CD made you the most badass person ever, so I was pretty much designated the school nerd.

I'm quite sure it was Snake Rattle N Roll for some reason, on Nesticle 0.42 I think, the version with the bad sound emulation. This was back in 1998-1999

Super Bucketheadland 3, a graphics hack of Super Mario Bros. 3, on NEStron, back in Business class in grade 9 in 2002. (Specific enough? ) I didn't even know what ROM hacking (or even emulation) was back then; I was just glad to be able to play my favourite game at school - with a Buckethead theme as a bonus!

I think mine was Chrono Trigger, and given that a lot of RPGs were never released here in Australia, CT included, you could imagine my delight as I opened the box of pandora and found a bevvy of delicious RPG goodness.

Respect for Mineyl. My favourite game ever, closely followed by Terranigma.

I believe it was a SNES game, I know dad had a SNES emulator installed on the family PC, I don't recall all of the 10ish or so games we had or which one I played first, but I know DKC3 was there as well as earthworm jim. :<

The first games I remember emulating were most likely Super Mario Bros in Nesticle, and a couple graphics hacks of Super Mario Bros. I was really young.
